Cat is ALMOST out of the bag....

Aftear hearing of, and anticipating that Mick is possibly leaving the audi community… i just dont know what im going to do from that day on to get reliable and trustworthy insight and information on the B7 platform…

For that reason… i have descided to sell the ol S :frowning:

On a more serious note… While the car is in MINT condition and i really do LOVE it, its more out of necessity than choice that im parting ways with it.

The deal is ALMOST sealed for my next car… a deal came along i just could not pass up…

Im not going to say what it is just yet… but ill tell you the color

Its a blue diamond tricoat car.

If your name is not Gibsonl… you SHOULD be able to figure out what car im getting ;D

So who’ll be left with the slow 8E cars - me, euro, V8Ryan, Axel… ?

gibsonl…I don’t see the connection

Does it have 22" wheels or something? Oh wait that’s jabroni who has the giant wheels.

I have a lowly 8E as well

bora lives about an hour north of toronto, and I think 2 winters ago had 4 feet of snow at one point. Can’t see him getting a CTS-V

If he does, he’ll have to be veyr careful in the winter…and especially at the dragstrip!

oh fun… does it come with a free gas card?

bora, selling the B7 is a good choice. Once mick sells his, will there be any reason to live as a B7 owner?

Also, CTSV needs that dark grey colour…looks really cool. Or silver. Something to show off the bulges. I saw a black one and couldn’t really say if it was a V or a V6.

Also needs the dark wheels

wagon would be cool as hell

the gibsonl joke was in regards to the breaker bar lol.

Yeah im getting a 2009 CTS-V. Its going to be blue… not my first choice in color but its MUCH MORE DISCRETE then Imola ( one of the main reasons im selling the car. I have been living a police harassment nightmare in the last 12 months. i keep getting pulled over for no reason what so ever. “routine” checks )

I wont lie… im scared to all shit for this winter lol. Can i just disable 4 cylinders? Im sure i can manage with only 279 HP during the winter ;D

pretty much what Bangoman posted but here is is for realsies…

Dont know why they put a 2008 plate on the car since they didnt even make the V in 08… its an 09!

Sorry J, but I just don’t get it. It’s fun to say to your friends that you have an almost 600HP street car but the reality is that you’re constantly pulling out your wallet for gas, you can’t hardly drive it several months/year and you know the local tire dealer (and his family) on a first name basis.

I know someone with a CTS-V wagon and he always comments on how it’s a car that probably shouldn’t even have been made.

^^^since I talk to him pretty regularly (your contact with the CTSv wagon) I can also tell you he says it puts a MASSIVE smile on his face every time he drives it. He’s a hard guy to impress…he also has a 997 S cab, and a new SRT8 Jeep.

  1. fuel is not a big deal. If you average 14 MPG (he’ll do better than that, but let’s just say if) that’s only 15% worse than bora’s B7 S4. That’s about $450/year. That’s nothing to sneeze at but certainly not a game changer. 3 years = $1500 max.

  2. rear tires? How many more tire changes will you have to do over 3 years…an extra 4 tires vs. an Audi? So what…an extra $1500?

The RWD in the snow will definitely suck.

Anyway, the other two items are financially quantifiable. They total about $3000 over three years (average car ownership).

Let me ask you this…can your 2.0T, or his 4.2 S4…make even anywhere NEAR 556 hp and as much torque for $3000? I don’t think so frankly. How much is the tune, testpipe, catback, carbonio intake, intercooler etc. etc. on your B8 A4 2.0T? I have a guess…more than $3000. I can also pretty much guarantee that you’re still abour 250 hp away from the power a stock CTSv will make.

Heck for me to match the CTSv, I’d need a supercharger that costs the equivalent of about 10 times that rear tire budget I outlined above.

So I don’t think there’s really much validity in evaluating this with $$$. Usability of the power, I wholeheartedly agree. Once he starts driving it around daily, he’ll realise that he drives a limpdicked kitten if it’s wet or snowing or cold. Whereas the Audis are always performing.

not sure the fuel economy is going to be that much worse than a V8 S4. 6mt is rated at 14/19, the S4 was 13/20 iirc

edit, saki beat me to it

I may end up saying the same thing as your buddy… But i dont drive very much. Even with the S4 i pretty much just do 200km a week. Im not too worried tires or gas wise. It will most likely be a bit more than the S4 but not that much. I can stick to 91 now and not bust my balls hunting / paying for 94.

And no matter what hick town i may end up moving to next summer… im guaranteed there is a GM dealer of sorts somewhere in the area. (im thinking of the time i went to Fredericton and the closest dealer was in Moncton… like 200km away)

limpdickkitten LOL

we got snow this morning in barrie… about 1.5 inches…

the only thought in my head was “WTF AM I DOING!!!”

But hey… our parents … and their parents all drove RWD back in the day. And they all survived just fine. Ill just have to patiently wait for march / april to start having some real fun! ;D

IMO it gets to a point where having power like that is completely unnecessary, unless you intend on tracking the car on a regular basis. If that’s the case, then all the power to you and tires, fuel, brake costs are out the window…like any car.

Whatever my car puts out in HP/TRQ can get me into a healthy ticket (or worse) in a few seconds on Canadian roads so I don’t see the need for something as excessive as that…especially when you require ideal conditions to use it safely.

As a second or third car…have fun, but as a daily driver it just doesn’t make sense to ME.

yes but as someone who drives a stock B8 A4 2.0T I could say the same to you…why are you spending all this money on modifications to make your car faster, when I can drive the car in stock form and get a ticket just as quickly, save for a few tenths of a second as you. Your claim that 556 hp is silly but your car at whatever it makes is good doesn’t hold water. There’s someone out there in a Audi A4 1.4e thinking your car is ridiculously overpowered and wasteful, running far too big 19" expensive tires etc. etc.

Bottom line is that we live in countries that let us drive what we want. You will never rationalise it. There is no ‘that’s enough’. When your car makes 210 hp (like our B8 avants) you want 300 (like yours now makes). I had a car that made 340 hp, but I wanted more, so now I have a car that makes 420 hp. I secretly want a C6 RS6 Avant though, that makes 570 hp.

It never, ever ends.

CTSV averages 14, B7 S4 guys average 16.7. The yellow car in the fuelly pics for 2006 S4? That’s boraVR6 and he actually averages 16.5.

So for a 10,000 mile/16,000 KM per year driver, the average CTSV is consuming about 116 more gallons or 439 litres more fuel per year than the average B7 S4…that’s about $440 per year in the US, and about $570 in Ontario

lol thats my imola in there too when i was tracking fuel the first year ish.

I secretly want a ZR1 … but with no back seats that will never happen :frowning:

This is kind of the next best thing i guess

  1. Buy a brand new Dodge Grand Caravan for $20,000
  2. Buy ZR1
  3. $$$

our parents didn’t have 500 ft lbs of torque. Very different lol

…and you will never rationalize the excess to me either

“Enough” depends on your personal want/need ratio…for a lack of a better term ;D

For the type of driving that I do 98% of the time (including spirited ventures) my measly Avant (as I’ve spec’d) can keep up with the best of them. I’m not doing regular highway pulls to 100mph+ so anything more (to me) isn’t needed. Would I like to go faster down a strip…sure, who doesn’t like to be faster? However, for the less than 0.1% of the time that I’m driving down a track I can’t justify “needing” 600HP to do it. Some can.

No kidding, coming from England, 2.0T is masses of power and a top end car lol. cory’s 2.0 is a TFSI. My friend’s A4 Avant was a 2.0 FSI. No turbo. Like the RS4 lol.

cory and I are a bit stuck because of our respective obsessions with avants/wagons/estates. I toyed with buying an RS4 when I moved here but I use the wagon feature more than the extra 80hp. If you want a new, AWD wagon the Audi is pretty much it, so I guess cory has to upgrade that to keep the wagon bit.

Now an E63 AMG wagon… I think I would be wrapped around a tree come January.
