That’s the thing…you think the excess will never be rationalised…however you yourself are on the path to that very same excess (and are past it some would say…who needs a 300 hp family wagon? that’s already ridiculous). You bought a very quick car in the grand scheme of things, then pumped thousands into it to make it even quicker. Sorry bud…you’re infected
Bora VR6 bought a car making the same type of power as your A4 a few years ago. Then he bought a 340 hp B6 S4. Then he bought a B7 S4 and modded it to 400 hp. Then he bought a 556 hp Cadillac CTSv.
Mark my words Cory, for your next car purchase, you won’t go backwards Youll go up in power. I guarantee it. Your next car purchase will make more hp than the B8 A4 Avant’s 210 hp (or whatever it is). In fact you already did, with your T6 Volvo that your wife drives. But your next car…won’t be 210hp or less.
the fuelly-ctsv owners must have all opted for the led foot option, my Jeep typically does that and I drive 75% city (with probably 95% of the trips being city)
The stock A4 isn’t “very quick” in the grand scheme of things …practically every other manufactures equivalent offering are more powerful/faster…even the Koreans I wanted a new sporty/fun premium wagon with tech amenities…I was practically forced by the market to pump money into an A4 it to get what I wanted.
The Volvo purchase was due to packaging. When the “toys” that I wanted were added together on the base I6 it came out to more expensive than the T6 that already included many of the items (and more) plus the better engine. Resale is better on the T6’s and fuel economy is VERY close.
If I needed to replace this Avant (which I don’t plan on anytime soon) I’ll be forced to go up in power…even equivalent 2.0L engines create more HP/TRQ as the years go by.
Also, my next purchase will likely not be a DD so I can be less practical on the need/want scale
There is no topic here… lets rename this thread a bunch of buds having a talk!!!
When i was shopping around the speed demon in me looked at a 2012 mustang 5.0, Charger SRT8 and of course the caddy.
BUT…
I also looked at some 3.6L CTS 4’s as well. Somewhat the same body, practically the same interior much like the difference between an A4 and an S4 interior wise.
I could get a 2013 cts4 demo for the price of the 09 V. And as much and as hard as i tried to convince myself i REALLY dont need the power (and its true! i DONT) i just cant do. I dont know if its pride or what… i just cant buy a non V caddy!
I guess i just need to compensate for this tiny penis my parents gave me! :o
Sak, you see that short video on ‘Motoring’ this morning with the CTS-V’s? That was Frank talking and a video of him peeling away in his wagon with my brother in the passenger seat.
The dealer walked me through a whole bunch of settings for when you take traction control off, suspension ect ect…
It was a cold cloudy day just barely above 30 degrees F so i figured it would be wise just to leave everything in save mode and have a feel for what my winter commute will feel like.
Its been so long i cant remember my S4 without the tune, but it must have been the same. The caddy isnt snappy. This is actually a good thing. VERY smooth going from dead stop to 50-60 km/h.
Once i was going 50-55 km/h i stomped on it …whoah nelly! Traction control does a VERY good job! Just the start of a burnout and a slight shift sideways and then all is ok.
The recaro seats are awesome as well. Less stiff than in the B6 B7’s they feel almost like lazy boys.
All in all i was quite surprised and well pleased with the test drive. I didnt get to do any highway (since there isnt any highway near that dealer) but i spent 20 minutes in a subdivision just doing stop and go’s at lights to see how easy or hard it would be to try and contain those ponies… It really wasnt that hard.
here is a pic i took today with a better camera that what was used in the AD. I have to say pictures do this color no justice it all! It has a beautiful metallic flake. I cant wait to see it in the sun.
Very cool car and congrats. Sorry to see ya leave but I understand. The CTS-V is a very impressive car and the newer version has a much nicer fit/finish than the old one did, plus gobs more power.
Also, I got to agree with Saki, often it doesn’t matter if what you have is “good enough” (power wise/looks/etc) it’s many peoples human nature to tinker with it and want more out of it. I just enjoy customizing and modify any of my toys and cars certainly fall into that category for me.
Anyhow, those V’s will be a lot fun when it’s the right weather for ya. There’s a black coupe here that’s highly modified and supposedly putting down north of 600hp out at the wheels which is just getting silly. Fun, but silly. Me, I’m still being tempted with a 996 turbo, finding mid-low miles versions in great condition aren’t too hard to find in high 30/low/mid 40s. Anyhow, here’s my buddies CTS-V, but he’s looking to sell it and do the same treatment to a wagon
