Oh my… May the Stig rest in peace…
You’re already writing him off? I’ve seen no reports that he’s died.
Ya hopefully he hangs on.
Damn that’s sad… He was one of my favorit race car drivers as a little kid when my dad used to take me to races.
I didn’t actually read it. I sure hope he lives!
coma and critical condition; i hope former stiggy wakes up and comes out ok.
Yea seriously. I don’t know if I can stomach two Stig deaths in one life time.
He hasn’t died yet, right?
nevermind that…he wasn’t the stig either
what other stig died? Black stig? Sacked stig is still alive and well.
Yea they killed off the original black Stig in the series.
What do you mean he wasn’t the Stig?
I mean he wasn’t the fucking stig. Ben Collins was white stig. Black stig was Perry McCarthy (also alive and well)
The Schumacher thing was a joke. At the time there was immense speculation in the UK media about who the stig was and Top Gear had Schumy come out wearing the custome for a laugh and to deflect a bit of the attention away from Ben (whose family was being stalked 24/7 by paps)
Interesting… I never knew that.
Same.
I thought it was Collins, Schumacher and McCarthy
That’s funny. Lost in translation for you yanks?
sakimano is 100% correct re the stig thing.
Anyway, I don’t wish him to die and I sincerely hope he recovers but from everything I’ve read about him over the years, his attitude and actions made him come across as a real douchebag.
Wow. Just read about it here and followed up in the news. It can’t be good if they are lowering his body temp to the low 90s F, don’t they do that to heart attack and drowning victims? Maybe our medical professionals here can comment…
Very sad for his family, and if he pulls out of this, who knows if he will re-think his priorities and finally settle down into retirement (remember he broke his neck already racing bikes, and apparently was back on a bike earlier this year). Probably not though. It’s the type of guy he is, pure racer.
truth…that was hilarious when they did that, so unexpected.
I’m not sure what the big deal is about “who is the stig”, the whole thing was a joke. I’m sure they could find any struggling rally driver to be the stig and do identical lap times, heck they could change the stig every week nobody would care. Drivers within a few tenths of the fastest are long in supply.
I can say without a doubt he was the driver I hated the most in 30 years watching F1. The first grand prix I watched was Senna’s first win, so go figure who I admired. in 1994, Watching Schumacher take over the reigns and smiling and laughing on the podium at Imola 1994 while Senna’s death was announced sealed my opinion.
Alonso became my hero for driving him to retirement in 2006. But he’s as big or an even bigger asshole than Schumacher, lol.
I felt a little sorry for Schumacher. He was basically forced into retirement both times, in 2006 and 2012. He had more left in him in 2007 and everyone knew his “advisor” role at Ferrari was extremely frustrating for him. I respected him more in retirement… going to motorcycle racing, at such a late stage in life. He needed the feeling of mastering speed, and motorcycle racing is the ultimate racing, where passing can be done most anywhere, unlike in cars, and a tip of the hat to legends like Surtees and Hailwood who were successful on 2 or 4 wheels. He wasn’t really any good on 2 wheels, though, broke his neck once even, but the motivation to give it a go is really admirable.
Don’t even get me started on Senna…
Go for it, why, who did you like watching at the time? To me, the Senna vs Mansell battles were legendary. Prost, I don’t give a fuck he’s my countryman, he was shite and when they released that Senna movie…everyone could see what was behind the nice guy act.
Was funny too back then, to have so many crap drivers in the 80s and 90s, they have an F1 rejects site dedicated to them. Nobody tops Andrea DeCesaris, to me.
