Control Arm kits S6

Got a serious clunk when backing out of drive on my 2008 S6 with 112K, thinking its time for control arms, etc. Any recommendations? Not finding any kits for 2008 S6, are they different than the A6? Recommended brands? Will be pulling wheels tomorrow to see what’s happening.
Thanks!

I remember ecs tuning had decent pricing on control arms.

fcpeuro. I bought a whole new set for my B5 from them. I bought oe trw set. Lifetime warranty on all of their parts. No questions, send in failed part and receive new replacement. Period

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll check them out.

No problem. If you can save a few bucks over ecs (shipping alone likely if not better prices) and get a lifetime guarantee, why not go with fcp.

I actually have 1 upper control arm from fcp and I think it’s life time returns too…just haven’t returned mine yet after 1.5 years in unopened box haha

They have the best guarantee I have come across. All of the parts they sell (fcp branded or other) have a lifetime guarantee. Pretty much only small print is store credit after 90-days. But they will send you a new part no questions asked from what I understand.

Wow thats interesting to know. It will be helpful to know if they offer them for the S6 and if they are quality. It would be great to get part numbers so future guys can see. Keep us updated on this.

I looked on fcp sight. They have genuine/audi arms (likely trw or lemforder brand) with part numbers on the sight. I did not see fcp branded ones for the c6. Meyle HD also. But, I have seen mixed reviews on Meyle stuff.

Sure most know that install and torqued to spec is key in multilink lifespan. The suspension should/needs to be compressed at natural ride height before doing so. From what I understand, this is key no matter what brand installed.

I have seen good reviews on long lasting fcp branded arms fwiw. And, they are dirt cheap for the B5. That said, I ordered trw brand and still at a great price through fcp. Lifetime and oe brand. Win win

Thats a great point to make. I dont think most guys know you need to preload the suspension to the stock ride configureation.

Yep, otherwise by by bushings in short order.

Received control arm kit today. Picked up the Mayle kit from Ebay vendor, $599, free shipping.
Hopefully will get installed next week.

Trying to figure out how to post an image…

Success!

Hi guys,

I can get you OEM arms pretty cheap, just send me a msg.

If you’re trying to get aftermarket camber correction ones, my one piece of advice is don’t buy camber bushings. They won’t last on our virtual balljoint setup.

I have heard that SPC makes arms for the C6, in fact I’m trying to get a set at the moment.

Good price on the meyle!

Update:

I have a promise date of 25 Jan for the SPC adjustable camber arms.

I’ll post up pics & pricing once received!

Control arms and tie rod ends are installed…wish I had a lift! The upper strut mount bolts next to the firewall are fun to get to, lots of stuff crammed in the S6. There’s one push nut on a locating stud next to the center top strut mount bolt that slowed me down trying to figure out how to get that SOB off…its recessed and you cant get at it, finally figured out just to use a pry bar and pry the whole strut mount assembly down and it came off. Have a torn inner cv boot on the right side, more fun! Have a noticeable clunk when backing out of drive and drop down into the street with the wheels turned. Have to listen a few more times to isolate. Do you think a bad inner cv would clunk when the wheels are turned and you work the suspension? Just wondering if I have a bad joint or just a boot replacement job…

The one picture didnt show up for the install.

The after looks like it was a lot of fun. Did you notice any cracks on the rubber parts or were they all in good shape.

Several cracks, some more severe separation, only on the upper arms, and one sway bar link. Pictures coming. Wondering now if my “clunk” was the inner cv joint, still have this noise, will do some more analysis and pull the wheels off to be sure all the arms are tight.
Read something about letting the suspension settle for a bit before checking alignment. Anyone confirm? Could this clunk be from settling ? I did fully load the suspension before tightining all the arm mount bolts, strut and sway bar. I measured and counted turns on the rod ends and the car tracks real nice, did a full alignment about 7 months ago. Will still have it checked, just need to figure out the clunk noise.
Got pricing for boots, joints and whole axle assemblies from Ellis, anyone been into one of these inner joints? I rebuilt several outer joints on my 90 V8Q over the years, always were fine after clean, lube and anew boot.
I’ve got 115k, should I just replace the whole axle?
Also pb blasted all the exhaust nuts and did some pre removal testing, wAs able to break several free, so getting the exhaust sections loose for the trans fluid and filter change should be ok.
Thanks for the input.
Sore, but ready for more.
