Custom B8/B8.5 Supercharger Heat Exchanger and Resevoir

X-Post

Well ever since I traded in my B8 S4 on my B8.5 I pretty much was able to transfer almost every mod. However my APR CPS was one of the mods that did not fit from the B8 to the B8.5. I went ahead and put my CPS on my pops’ car and knew that sooner or later I would have needed to get a cooling system due to the higher boost levels of Stage 2.

Well APR does not yet make a CPS for the B8.5 and since I had their CPS on my last car I was really leaning towards the APR kit. Since it was not yet available I looked into the all new Cold-Front System from AWE Tuning. I’m a huge fan of AWE and their products (as you can tell). I actually liked the looks of the AWE Kit especially the bigger resevoir they offered in comparison to APR.

What it came down to was, I did not want to spend over $1100 for a Heat Exchanger and Resevoir.

I was able to measure clearances, hoses etc… I made my own kit and so far I couldn’t be more happy. In comparison to both APR and AWE who are decently expensive I was able to save a few hundred bucks.

I have been logging stock v. my custom kit their is a significant drop in IAT’S.

I will make a comparison of stock, apr, awe and mine next week. Logs, vbox and pics of all kits.

Mine is still the prototype system, but I have new of everything bracket else and will swap it off for the 100% finished product. Anyone interested in a kit I can def put one together.

pretty cool.

If you become a business and sell it, I would use a photo without hoses lying on the ground

Haha yeah I’ll have better pics of everything soon!

you should go on audizoo and post this and put a price on it and make up a funny business name. How long till the moderators have cerebral embolisms?

I posted about it, wonder how long till I receive an infraction

Very nice! It was about time someone tried to do their own kit…
I have been trying to piece mine together as well and I have some questions:

  1. Did you leave the stock heat exchanger in place and why?
  2. Which core did you go with and where did you buy it?
  3. Have you considered water/meth injection in conjuction with this kit (or a nitrous shot)?

Hope you get great results:) can’t wait to see the logs. This heat wave is killing performance…

CPS?

I assume your new piece is the big radiator in front with the hose on the ground? Thiis replaced the OEM unit in that same location? Side by side pictures? Why not add a fan for better low speed cooling?

Lol did Tsivas send you all my parts list?

Seriously, great job Pete, gotta look a little closer at your pics when I get home…

Thanks man!

I removed the stock exchanger as it does not make sense to leave both in. The stock exchange being left in provides no positives to the kit. The core was taken from a local shop a customized. I can get more upon request. Meth is in the making

That’s part of my Stage 2 version of this kit and its sitting at home just gotta pull the bumper again and install it

This one has over 70% more volume compared to the stock intercooler.

Haha no, I didn’t know you had one lol…

Thanks Jason, the kit is not complete and that pic is old but you get the general idea.

I haven’t done it yet…I’ve posted about it a couple times. Did you get the Jabsco pump? It’s only $300…or less…same as the original.

Which heat exchanger is that…? .I’ve seen a few but was hoping to find a 2-row version.

cough cough give this one a try

Pete, liking what I see… can’t wait to see the finished product in person. When you get a solution on the pump, def. let me know and i’ll be in on it! Would also like to take a look at the reservoir that you installed…

Sounds good, working on that and a fan now! I’ll text you some photos later on.

Can’t wait to see how well it works.

^^ welcome to AR, infinkc.

Thanks, I signed up awhile ago, never got the activation till recently. Getting tired of the az politics.

Well since i don’t have edit privileges, will reply.

Curious how an aftermarket pump will install in the b8.5 as all the connections are at the driver side now. Wonder if there is enough room in there for the 2 pumps.

I think i am going to try the Edelbrock HE, looks like it will fit perfectly and have the connections in the correct plaes.

How are you planning to log the temperature after install?

The site owner has been screening approvals. Too bad the guys here didn’t know you were waiting, but in the future if you ever know someone who is in limbo waiting for approval, PM the site owner (username: God) and he will approve them right away if you vouch for them.
