Dashcams?

I was actually considering something like this as well. It’s not HD quality though. Still, not bad.

This seems to be the same kit but without the cameras in case you want to get your own:

Hi guys,

This is Alex from Blackboxmycar.com.

I myself drive an Audi and it is really nice to be on an Audi forum. In the past, I was a vendor on E90Post, Gencoupe forum, and now MBWorld. I always wanted to become a vendor on Audizine, but for some reason, they just don’t reply to me :frowning: haha…

Anyways! Please feel free to ask any questions you guys have with the device. We have videos to help our viewers/customers with hardwire installation as well. Please check our youtube channel for review of our dashcams as well: http://www.youtube.com/user/blackboxmycardotcom?feature=mhee

We just launched Finevu CR500HD and it is considered the best blackbox in the market today. It is equipped with Sony EXMOR CMOS Sensor and offers 1080P FULL HD quality at 30fps.

Between Blackvue DR380G to DR400G V2, the difference is following:

Blackvue DR380G
720P HD Quality @30fps
Built in GPS
Parking mode by motion detection
G sensor
8GB (exp upto 32GB)

Blackvue DR400G V2
1080P Full HD @ 30fps
Built in GPS
Parking mode by motion detection
G sensor
Built in polarize lens
16GB (exp upto 16GB)
better compression ratio to compress more video onto the memory card

Here is quick spec for Finevu CR500HD

Finevu CR500HD
1080P Full HD @ 30fps
Sony EXMOR CMOS Sensor
Parking mode by motion detection
G Sensor
16GB (exp upto 32GB)
Buttons to take pic, emergency video, mute, on/off, parking mode, reformatting SD Card

Please feel free to ask any questions you guys have. I am very happy to be with Audi members on this forum. Please visit our website at www.blackboxmycar.com for more info.

Thanks!

The footage on YouTube from people who are using the cameras shows them to be insanely good quality video

Questions

1 what does 16GB exp to 16GB mean?
2 are they GRove or saved to flash card?
3 on the 49ers for example, how much space does 1 minute take up in mb
4 what happens when the memory gets full?
5 do the files break up when you turn the car off? Would suck if you got into an accident not your fault and had video evidence to that effect, but when you turn it over in disclosure, they see you were speeding ten minutes earlier.

Thanks

comes w/ 16gb can add an additional 16gb.

approx 8gb = 1 day of footage. when the memory is full it overwrites from the beginning.

The files break up when you are parked/car is off, come back on if the motion sensor is triggered. For an accident, it will make a clip starting 5 seconds prior to the collision sensor being triggered.

Wouldn’t you also have a selectable increment for file breaks? Both of my old cameras allow for this. 1min, 2min, 5min, 10min files. Each time it reaches whichever time you selected, a new file is created. This makes each file way more manageable. I’d be surprised if the Blackvue didn’t allow for this. It’s pretty standard.

Pretty sure you can do that as well. Would suck to go through hours of footage lol.

Let’s you control the size and also how much size of each type of video you wish to keep. For example you can choose to keep more allocation for “event” videos and less for just normal recording. I currently have it set for more space for parking and event and when I go to the track I set it to have equal space for everything.

I can post a screen shot of the settings when I’m home if you’d like, unless someone else does it before

Heyhey,

I am sorry guys I m gonna have to learn how to use multi quote on this forum  Here is my answer to your questions.

1 what does 16GB exp to 16GB mean?

It comes with 16GB SD memory card. However, you can expand it upto 32GB by purchasing one from futureshop/best buy. DR380G comes with 8GB.

2 are they GRove or saved to flash card?

The videos will be saved onto the SD memory card and it will loop itself over and over. You do not have to delete videos.

3 on the 49ers for example, how much space does 1 minute take up in mb

hmm… good question. To be honest, I dont know. 16GB would last for 7-8 hours with 1080P Full HD quality at 30fps. I would recommend putting a 32GB if you want to be safe with all the parking mode videos.

4 what happens when the memory gets full?

It will loop itself over and over  You dont have to delete your videos!

5 do the files break up when you turn the car off? Would suck if you got into an accident not your fault and had video evidence to that effect, but when you turn it over in disclosure, they see you were speeding ten minutes earlier.

Yes and no. It depends if you hardwired your unit or not. If the power gets cut off, the device will shut itself down. However, if your device is hardwired with power kit, you will still be able to record your video even when your car is off.

Good thing you pointed out about the speeding. That is why Finevu does not come standard with GPS. I tell all my customers about the pros and cons of using GPS. GPS system will record your speed onto the video file. Unless you are driving at legal speed limit (50km/h in BC) I wouldnt recommend it to be honest.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Yes, for Blackvue, you can set it so that it records 1, 3, and 5 min intervals. For Finevu, it is only in 3 min.

Yup! you are 100% correct and I also set my event videos as priority  As a car person, you really appreciate the parking mode feature.

Here is one reason:

haha this is my friendly neighbour. He knows I have a dash cam and him and I are very good friends. He does it time to time. Plz dont take it personal! haha.

you are exactly right! Thanks for clarification

Assuming it is wired to the fuse box, what is the amp draw when in park?

Hi,

CR500HD runs on normal mode with 167mA (normally 300mA~500mA from other blackboxes) and there isn’t specific number on parking mode draw on battery power. However, it only gets turned on/off with motion detection.

Well it all sounds good to me. I’m still interested, probably would go with 2 of those DR400G-V2 units.

Is this going to be a group buy?

what are we looking at as a cost on the 400?

Hello,

Are most people here interested in the DR400G V2? We are organizing a GB on MBWorld.org at the moment with the Finevu CR500HD.

If we can get 10+ units, we will offer $280/unit (instead of $310). Let us know

Here is the link to the MBWorld GB on Finevu CR500HD.

This GB will take off when we reach 20+ people. Finevu CR500HD just launched last week and it is considered the best full hd dash cam in the market at the moment. Please feel free to let us know if you guys have any questions!

The CR500 is a nice unit, but a little too large and cumbersome for my taste. I prefer the more discreet look of the DR400.

same
HD, memory card, hides out of view when I am driving

Those are all wins

How is the sound

I see I see  Take a look at this video. You guys would want to do this

For some Audis the upper part of the windshield is tinted and placing these Blackvue devices hide well.

So are we set for Blackvue GB then? Let me know if you have any questions
