So members on this forum prefer Blackvue DR400G Season 2.

im tempted but since i dont drive the car every day im scared about battery draining issues.

why would it drain the battery? I was under the impresison that it can be set to run when the car runs, and that’s it.

I don’t care about the motion detection when parked. That’s just me maybe.

Would be cool to see who checks out your car though…imagine one of these in a Ferrari? Your battery would probably die there with people peering in to the thing constantly

I believe the added component can be wired into your fuse box really easily. At this point, you can pick a fuse that is always “on” or one that is only “on” when the car is on. I saw the install video and it takes less than 5 minutes to setup. You pull the fuse you want and wrap the positive around the base of it and then put the fuse back in. You then wrap the black ground wire around a grounding point nearby and you’re done.

In addition, I think it has a fail safe of sorts. If the unit detects 11.5V’s or less it auto shuts down fully so you don’t come back to a dead battery. I’m sure the dude selling these can address all of these concerns and confirm how the unit works.

Hello,

By hardwiring with a PMP, you will never drain your battery. Cars in Korea have upto 4 cameras to cover all the angle and they never have any issues.

Just thought I’d bump this back up with some more thoughts on the DR400G HD I have.

Initially the video seemed really clear

Initially I thought this was just a dirty lens, so I wiped it up and the windshield in front of the it, but it did not seem to help.

Some googling lead to people complaining that it was due to overheating issues and that they got it replaced while in warranty. Mine is well out of warranty unfortunately, so that was out of the question.

I had been contemplating getting a new dashcam, when someone suggested cleaning the inside of the lens. I was a bit skeptical since I didn’t see how dirt and crud could get inside there (The lens seemed pretty sealed up). But it seems like a few people have reported success doing this.

Gonna give it a shot later today and I’ll report back. Seems pretty easy other than accidentally getting dirt on the sensor itself.

Is yours new? the original 400 had problems but they released a newer version. Couple guys locally have it and theirs seem OK. And one person I know had the old one with teh same problems you are having.

Old one (season 1 or whatever they labeled it now). I got side tracked and never got around to putting it back in yet. I’ll grab some footage soon.

There was definitely some weird fog on the inside of the lens and its much cleaner now. Hopefully the footage is too.
