Datadatum's RS4 log

good review. You should contact them directly with that. PM jake on here and just ask him why that took so long. Doesn’t sound right really.

We did it for Mistro in my driveway (because I have a cable) a year ago and I am not sure what his wait time was etc. but it was definitely nowhere near that.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the tune and everything went through smoothly!

However, I am rather upset to hear that it took so long for your account information to be sent to you. We had such great communication through the whole thing that I did not think anything was wrong. I will definitely be looking into this. If there is EVER an instance where you feel something is taking longer than it should PLEASE contact me right away.

Jake

Jake - I thought you took the weekend off!

I’ll PM you details. I don’t want to make a mountain out of a molehill.

We do take the weekend off ;D I still like to browse the forums though in the evenings and weekends because sometimes there are people who need help who don’t have a chance to contact us during our open hours.

I will take a look at that PM!

So far, I am highly impressed with the JHM tune.

The B7 S4 forum on AZ has many comments regarding a “twitchy” gas pedal, but I’ve not experienced that at all. In fact, I feel that the JHM tune removed a dead spot in the pedal.

The stock “dead spot” is almost like a split second time delay that has little to do with how far the pedal was depressed. I frequently struggled with the dead spot to find the right timing on revmatching and quick acceleration from a standstill. I can only imagine it was there for some emissions reason?

Now that the dead spot is gone, the car is more intuitive to drive. I push the pedal and get an immediate and predictable response. Love it!

I think the B67 tune was a little different throttle wise. I can see what they’re talking about. It’s certainly nothing to cry about. You just have to be deliberate when rolling a parking lot in a now torquey 1st gear.

My wife drove my B7 with catless downpipes, fast intentions exhaust and JHM 93 tune to a grocery store once and called me to come get the car because she couldn’t drive it. Once I showed her a couple of things (not being on the clutch while pulling away…pulling away with just letting out the clutch and don’t need any throttle till you’re going…bracing the right edge of your right foot up against the footwell and rocking it to make your control better) she was fine. If you get bucking, and you’re floating your right foot now the foot is slamming into the pedal with each buck, making the next buck.

On the RS4 it’s less pronounced.

Driving the car with windows down and radio off, I noticed a bothersome sound today.

Like high pitched radio static, or dropping a bunch of ballbearings onto a cast iron surface.

Only happens under moderate to high throttle, and doesn’t always happen (>50% of the time I can hear it). Can only hear it if there is a curb to the driver side (reflecting sound, I suppose).

My first thoughts…

  • something loose from the recent DP uninstall, re-install
  • engine knock

Could be an exhaust leak. I would peak underneath and see if you can see any carbon soot.

Also, how many miles do you have on the tune?

Maybe 150 miles.

I don’t know what an exhaust leak sounds like on a RS4, so I’m in new territory.

FYI - Awesome support from CV. Got a personalized plan for engine maintenance and performance. Super guy.

Indeed - the man is top notch.

Cleaned up the STi and RS4 today. Looking good!

It may be posted elsewhere, but any mods to the Sti? Seems like a very fun car to toss around, as long as you find one that hasn’t already been beaten to death lol, and you understand what the car is and isn’t.

Mods?

I’m actually getting ready to sell it. Here is the advertisement I drafted…

0_o Holy smokes, nice mod list.

Man, great lookin and modded car. Keep it for a couple more years and I may pick it up as a 3rd toy lol. I’ve always wanted to play with one, but I want to just be able to rag it around and not feel bad, yours I think is in TOO nice of shape to do that. But very clean car. Ive become a big fan of the styling of the new Sti sedan, I think they look great.

Thanks!

Appreciate that.

Oh, it loves to be ragged around. Someone that I race with is coming over today to look at it. We’ll see… I don’t have to sell it, but don’t need to keep it. Kind of a strange situation to have something with sentimental value. I figure I will sell it, and then start a project car with my son once he gets closer to driving age.

By the way - something funny on the JHM intake spacers…

The pair arrived with one gasket that obviously didn’t fit correctly, as none of the ports or bolt holes lined up.

I was scratching my head, thinking maybe the gaskets come with different part numbers for each cylinder bank.

A little more head scratching as to why one spacer had “B7 RS4” on it, and the other didn’t.

Googled the gasket part number… still scratching my head…

Then the light bulb went on. Duh.

Flip spacer over, reattach gasket. Done. ;D

Looks like I made full member!
