Datadatum's RS4 log

Thanks! I expect to feel a bump, datalog a bump, and hear a bump.

The owner of the shop says he has done RS4 carbon cleaning before, and described the process well. Does many makes and models. Also seemed familiar with what is required for the phenolic IM spacers. He thinks they might need it overnight, and I’m okay with that.

I’ll drop it off in the AM, and pick up my Suby to drive.

What dps again?

JHM catted DPs w/ 2.5" reducer (sitting on my shelf)

Cool.

Should feel like a new car.

Thanks elitist!

FWIW, here is the reducer…

I can’t believe I just discovered this thread. Really good stuff!

Muhahaha! ;D

Car feels spectacular!

Mods completed today:

  • JHM DPs (cats, reduced to stock CB)
  • JHM intake spacers
  • Oil separator heater bypass
  • Carbon clean

Just a little louder in normal mode, but much more noticeable in S mode.

Pulls nicely in all conditions. Haven’t reset the ECU yet, so there is probably more in it. Too bad it is literally 100°F right now.

So I had big plans to log the improvements today… Nope.

Had a bunch of morning stuff, and by the afternoon it was over 100°F and humid. That kind of temp just sucks the life out of me…

So what all is done now?

Had a great time on the interstate doing logs in 3rd, 4th and 5th… only to realize I didn’t start the logging correctly. D’oh!

Fixed the issue, ran a few logs on a highway. I’ll post it up later, but first impressions from a quick data check…

~ Runs show between 574 and 559 rpm/sec 3000 to 7500 @ WOT. Not bad.
~ Significant timing (-6 to -11) being pulled through much of the rpm range, fairly even between cyls 1-4
~ Hot out, already 90°F. Yesterday actually hit 102.6°F. Humid as heck. I hate this weather.

Current Status:

  • JHM 93 octane tune
  • JHM DPs, w/ cats, reduced to stock CBE
  • JHM IM spacers (port separators pulled)
  • Oil separator coolant bypass
  • Fresh carbon clean, fresh injector clean

Maintenance items…

  • last oil change nearly 3000 miles ago (plan to change this shortly)
  • fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs all within the last 6000 miles

Oil Changed! First time doing it myself. Went fairly straightforward. Pulled a sample to send out for analysis. First time I’ve done that as well, will be interested to see results…

Interested in hearing the results of the oil analysis. Changing your own oil always gives me a great sense of accomplishment.

Feel wise what are your thoughts on improvements from your latest modifications?

Yep, always a satisfying day when I change the oil. (Note: first time with the RS, but done it on my other cars for years.) I paid well over $100 for the last change at the Audi dealer. So I saved money, and had a nice morning in the garage. Win-win.

Feel wise… The car feels great. Runs strong, loves to rev. Feels and sounds very healthy. A blast to drive. More “alive” than before.

I just wish it was cooler out…

Been like this almost all of June, and now into July. Brutal.

Sounds better, too. The “S” button makes a MUCH bigger difference in volume now. I am working on a vacuum kill for the exhaust, but it isn’t functional yet. I bought a used Euro ESP button (on the right side of the cluster) to run it. I’d be in the garage working on it right now if it wasn’t so damn hot out.

With those kinds of temperature readings if the car still feels that good I’d definitely consider those modifications money well spent.

So far so good! CV gets all the credit for sharing the technical benefits of each modification. Extremely helpful.

Even more credit goes back to you. It’s one thing to share information, its another to have someone follow it. I wouldn’t worry about the corrections, from what you’re listing the temps as that kind of correction would be about right. With those temps the cars reaction times are delayed slightly to ensure no issues. That can account for some of the reduced pep. When conditions are more civilized the car will return that power back to you.

Thanks CV, very gracious of you - although I would argue that it is a lot easier to FOLLOW expert advice, than it is to GIVE expert advice.

Car going into the dealer tomorrow. (Shudder)

Using warranty service to address poor cooling of the A/C. Also have them look at my central HVAC flapper that is intermittently malfunctioning. Its a 20 minute drive… without traffic. And a 60 minute drive otherwise. 0730 drop off puts me right into the thick of rush hour.
