Did some test last night with the racelogic Vbox( b6 s4)

Hi guys
Well this are the first time I toke the S4 for a spin, it was a nice night I really enjoy the car .
The car its a tiptronic complete stock (with the exception of the carbonio intake wich comes with the car when I bought it )with half tank of fuel and 20lbs of stuff in it plus 220lbs from me.
The info .
-Complete Stock b6 s4
-Tiptronic
-half tank of fuel
-Have not remove nothing from the car , regarding weight
-fuel used 93 oct
-carbonio intake with a dirty air filter.
-40.000 miles spark plugs

"track " info

-700mts over see ( 2.300 ft)
-25 degrees Celsius ( 77 f )
-humidity 58%
-atmospheric pressure 1014

Device used

-Racelogic vbox

Test

-after been in the car for 1 hour I arrive to the “test” area where I test all of my cars since 10 years ago its a nice and flat highway will upload the info later regarding this.
I have not let the car off in this test for better cooling .
1- car in D put the brake let the rpm to 2000rpm and go .NO roll out ( 1 ft)
0-100 km 6,8 seg ( 0.60 6,4 seg)
0-200mts 9,7 seg at 124,2 km (77,2 mph)
0-400mts 14,8 at 158,5 km (98,5 mph)
0-1000mts 26,4 at 205,4 km (127,6 mph)
100-150km 6,5 seg (62-93mph )
100-200km 17,4 seg ( 62-124,3mph)
0-200km 24,2 seg (0-124,3mph)

2-Sport mode same as above
0-100 6,8 seg
0-200mts 9,7 at 124km
0-400mts 14,8 at 158km
0-1000mts 26,5 at 206,1
100-150km 6,5
100-200km 17,3
0-200km 24,1 seg

3-let the car “cool” for about 10 min but running in it at about 60 mph… in D and no brake now , much better!
0-100km 6,5 seg 0-60 6,1 seg
0-200mts 9,5 seg at 126,3km 78,5 mph
0-400mts 14,5 at 159,8km 99,3 mph
0-1000mts 26,1 at 206,8 km 128,5mph
100-150km 6,5 seg
100-200km 17,1seg
0-200 23,6 seg

4-1ft roll out In D
0-100km 6,3seg 0-60 5,9 seg
0-200mts 9,4 seg at 126,9km 78,85 mph
0-400mts 14,3 at 160,1 km 99,5 mph
0-1000mts 25,9 at 207,4 128,9mph
100-150km 6,2 seg
100-200km 16,9 seg
0-200 23,3 seg

after all the test I can say that the best way to launch the car its in D and just let go , no brake need it for a stock one.
Im pretty sure the car can do low 14 at 99-100mph stock If I let it cool for some time and take some weight out.
Next test will be
-spare wheel and tools out
-1/4 of fuel
-time to cool the motor.

Then 97oct and see how its does , from the log I did last night this motor its pulling from 8-6 cf wich I think its a little to much for my taste.

I will upload all the info later with vids.
Hope you enjoy it.

Regards.

Now that’s the way to do it. A lot of data and context
Wish I had a nice spot where I could take it to 200+kph

Good stuff. Always love seeing data like this. 400 metres = quarter mile for anyone wondering (400metres = 440 yards = 1320 feet)

FYI the MPH calculation in racelogic is a bit optimistic. It measures MPH at the end of the 400 m, whereas the IHRA/NHRA dragstrips measure the average speed over the last 60 feet. Usually terminal speed reads about 1-1.5 MPH higher than ‘60 foot trap speed’.

All in all, those sound like typical numbers for a healthy stock B6 S4 tiptronic. Other things to consider that are hurting you

  1. 2300 feet above sea level is a killer for a naturally/normally aspirated car. Our track for example is only around 650 feet above sea level.

  2. the temperature also further reduces the o2 density in the air. 25 celsius is about 20 degrees hotter than the last time a group of us went to the dragstrip here in Toronto.

  3. as you noted, half a tank is about 3/8 of a tank too much (that’s 40 lbs), and you have another 60 lbs of junk in the trunk (extra wheel, Audi toolkit). So there’s 100 lbs against you, not to mention you weigh 240 (same as me).

I wouldn’t be surprised if, at closer to sea level, and with colder temperatures and the extra weight out of your car, you could run 13.8 @ 102 on your pbox.

Have you tested your other cars in this spot? Any results to compare, i.e.when your B5 was closer to stock?

Great data, thanks for sharing. Esp the fastest method to launch the car and D vs S.

Thanks everyone! will keep informed about the progress on the car.

By the way I did dyno with the vbox and got 245-7whp …

For tip and altitude, that sounds about right whp wise I believe.

How do you dyno with the pbox?

Isn’t it called something like “Power Mode” and does a mathematical calculation using a user provided vehicle weight?

That’s in the gtech I think

I did about the same

I can still get out aprox 20lbs more…

Did additional runs today to see what the car would yield if brake torqued.

Weather was a bit cooler. 85F, 69% rel humidity. Elevation: nearly sea level. Same setup as before.

Measured by a certified V-Box II with DGPS.

Given the brake torqued runs with this brand new car I’m sure the car will do Audi’s published times after some more mileage on the engine and with ambient temps in the 70F range. Not that far away at this point.

Yesterdays runs at the bottom.

First run. tip in D, no brake torque. This was a control run to see how much the weather altered the times. As you can see, it cost about .12 seconds.

Brake torqued launch knocks off .2 0-60 and in the 1/4 but trap speed remained the same.

Guys

I did try 97 oct with very similar conditions (temp and humidity), with logs from 2 to the end of 4 gear etc .
made 5 passes to test everything
The info I got:

-2,3 cf not 4-6 from vpower 93 Shell, and 7-8 from other company 93.
-1,2 whp gained
-almost 0 diff from my last runs …
14.1 was the best with 1foot roll out and 14,3 without , basically the car does not run any better with more octane STOCK
-next new spark plugs , test this friday .
-next week I will do piggies …

Regards.

put a new fuel filter on it…I bet it has never been changed.

Important maintenance part on these 4.2 cars.

I did it …
thanks.

Change the spark plugs just the normal 1 electrode bkr7e

About the same temp 24 degrees
1feet roll out

0-100 6 seg 0-60 5,6seg
0-200mts 9.2 seg at 127.9 km 79,5mph

0-1000mts 25,6 seg at 209,1 km 129,90mph
100-150km 6,3 seg
100-200km 16,5 seg
0-200km 22,8 seg.

No feet roll out.

0-100 6,1 seg 0-60 5,8seg
0-200mts 9.2 seg at 127.5 km 79,22mph
0-400mts 14.3 at 160,7km 99,91 mph
0-1000mts 25,7 seg at 208,7 km 129,68mph
100-150km 6,3 seg
100-200km 16,6 seg
0-200km 23 seg.

This are the best so far I do not think it can get any better with this temp and altitude.

Cheers.

Incredible that it takes 2 tenths of a second to go 1 foot…and 400 metres later 2 tenths of a second = 30 feet
