Good choice. Second best b6/7 s4 and b7 rs4 modification for results and the hne you consider that it’s free it’s incredible that everyone doesn’t do them.

I repeat this runs 3 times all of them pretty much the same, 10-15 min to cool the car down at 60 mph on the highway in all the tests.
The “dyno” on the vbox got about 7-9 whp more. Its about what to expect with the improvements.
This week the cats are going out… test this mod and then jhm software.

Pretty much spot on to Mistro’s Piggies+H-Pipe run. Interesting.
According to Motor Trend, the S8 is in the 11.8/11.9 territory. A little sad that the luxury cruising S8 accelerates quicker than the new RS4 no? Maybe it’s just me.
From Motor Trend (not sure how accurate these numbers are)
"Audi S8 hits 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 118.3 mph.
$140,000 vs. $75,000 -> The S8 is infinitely more luxurious than the RS4 with many more features. Furthermore, it’s in a top category that is willing to pay that kind of money (i.e. the market is able to bear that price). The profit margins are higher on higher end cars. The cost is reflecting the class of car, not the performance.
525hp vs. 450hp -> 4519 lbs vs. 3957 lbs = 8.6lbs/hp vs. 8.79lbs/hp -> Nearly the same (although we all know the S8 is way under-rated in terms of marketed hp numbers). That said, the hp shouldn’t really matter all that much. It’s Audi’s choice of what motor/power output the RS4 gets. They chose to give the new RS4 450hp. It’s the final performance the car is able to output that matters and what I’m comparing.
As for the entry level, again, who cares. The RS4 is supposed to be more “performance oriented” car than an S8.
Yes, the RS4 is better in the twisties, but that’s taking the conversation on to a tangent. I was solely talking about acceleration numbers. An RS4 would beat an S8 hands down on a road track. I was only comparing the two in a straight like acceleration.
What is the RS4’s main competition? (from a buyer’s perspective I mean, not overall competition.)
Furthermore, even if the new RS4 came to North America, for approx. $13,000, an existing B7 S4 Avant owner is able to match the RS4’s stock performance (minus the cool new features). Would be a tough sell. And the current B8 S4 Avant in Europe can almost match the RS4’s performance with some tuning.
Now if the RS4 had gone into 11.8 territory in stock form with pump gas (like the S8), that’s a different story. The B7 S4 Avant can’t reach those numbers without spending big money and the B8 S4 Avant can’t either unless it’s on race gas. Now a buyer would be able to more easily consider trading up to a newer model.
In the end though, I don’t really care. I’ll never own one so meh. Audi does what they want, people will buy what they want, and the world will continue to spin
That’s my point though…straight line acceleration is one of the things quattro cares about. They care much more about corners etc. The RS4 would rape the S8 in any other performance test. Braking, slalom, lap time.
Further, you can’t brush off the fact that the S8 is a $140,000 car. Or that it makes way more hp and a shitload more torque. To do an hp/lb calculation is a bit disingenuous. The S8 has been dynod at 450 WHP and 425 WTQ.
Frankly I don’t think anyone is surprised/sad that the S8 is faster in a straight line. Just you really. You think that Mercedes is sad that the S63 is faster than the C63? Or that the M5 absolutely RAPES the M3? Of course not.
The RS4’s competition?
C63 6.2 V8 NA - 450 hp
M3 4.0 V8 NA - 410 hp
ISf 5.0 V8 NA - 420 hp
