Again, I’ve not had that experience with the “91 octane” gas that comes from the refinery in Northern California, which actually outputs unicorn tears as its only environmental biproduct. New Jersey sells far more potent 94 octane gasoline and it’s fantastic that Auditude can get his hands on that at any station on the NJ Turnpike. The crap we get makes a stock E92 M3 DCT run 13’s.

California is interesting. Retailers in the state can only sell CARB gasoline, which has specifications for deposit control additives, reid vapor pressure (RVP), sulfur, aromatics, oxygen, benzene, T50, T90, Olefins, and bans methyl-tertiary-butyl-ether (MTBE) as an oxygenate. We have to use ethanol as an MTBE substitute. This could have a huge implication on drag times.

These are the NorCal refiners:

what is that…a $150,000 tesla?

Why not compare to a $150,000 Audi? aka an RS7 which would rapefuck the Tesla.

In fact, it would only cost $120,000 and you’d have 10 years of gas money + a nice vacation in St Maarten for you and your boyfriend.

Dude you can get a well equipped P85D for $105k minus $10k state and federal tax credit. So basically $105k out the door after sales tax. And, uh, it doesn’t need $250 a month of gasoline. And, uh, the engine and drivetrain only has 3 parts.

West you are not going to win this one lol

and uh it’s slow as fuck compared to the RS6. Buslengths slower in a roll to the top of 4th race. And uh it’s supposed to be a performance car…yet it’s slower?
or is it a luxury car…that is not luxurious? Or is it a quality car…that is not high quality?

$105,000…clearly you have never thought about buying a tesla. If you had, like I have, you would know that you need to add about $10,000+ in options to get an ‘RS Audi’ equipped Tesla. Want an ugly one with no nav and ugly wheels? Sure, $105,000. Want one that competes at the $100,000 level? This is S class, RS6 and S8 territory. You’re not getting by with a stripper here.

So to get a nicely equipped Model S P85D, here’s the bill…$128,000. (tech package, nice seats, heated seats, nav, nice wheels, paint)

But there’s a $7500 federal incentive (giving you my taxes)…so it’s only $120,000. Guess what…they don’t negotiate. So it’s $120,000.

So you’re $10,000 more expensive, uglier, don’t sound cool, have a worse interior, have FAR worse quality and reliability levels, and are quite a bit slower. That’s a terrible fucking deal. Want to mod your car? Oh yeah, you can’t. But I can have another 120 hp and 120 tq for $3000.

The P85D is loaded with 21" wheels, summer performance tires, xenon lights, etc. The technology package adds self driving car capabilities, so I think you can live without that. Even with the extra wall charger and extra internal charger, it’s only $107k. Honestly the interior is garbage compared to a German interior and a luxury package won’t fix that. California has a $2500 credit on top of the $7500 US Federal credit. It’s under $100k for anyone in the US.

I’ve never been a fan of the V8TT engines (from BMW or Audi) because of the cylinder deactivation technology. It’s always been a disaster and appears to have been causing RS7 owners some grief.

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather Audi pushed software updates for my S4 over the air that made the car faster. Even though it is fun talking to you on the Internet about whether REVO will make my car explode, I’d rather have this happen for free:

[quote]The P85D top speed is currently electronically-limited to 130 mph. In the coming months, we will be able to upgrade the car free of charge to enable a 155 mph top speed. This free update will be available for the lifetime of the car (not limited to the first owner). Additionally, an over-the-air firmware upgrade to the power electronics will improve P85D performance at high speed above what anyone outside Tesla has experienced to date. In other words, the car will be better than you experienced. This free upgrade will be rolled out in the next few months, once full validation is complete.

  1. Dayum! Spec Miata! That’s some real stuff right durrr
  2. That’s some Best Motoring style shifting  Boss!

yeah the 130hp really kicks you back into the seat lol

The Tesla’s have monster torque down low, roller coaster like. I’ve driven a model S performance on a test track and it flies until you get to around 90 MPH. Would be interesting if they figured out a way to incorporate a transmission, but maybe the simplicity and drivetrain loss makes the cost/benefit make no sense.

Also, if you drive it like you stole it, you get about 1/3 the range. And it charges at a rate of 15 miles/hour at a 240V charging station. Rich guy trophies is all they are…why not just get a 911 and something like a volt for commuting. Plug in hybrid is where the real potential lies IMO.

Funny, but no it doesn’t. You have to add a pile of stuff to bring it up to $100,000 car standard.

You are excited about getting the speed limiter raised from 130 to 155? Awesome. lol.

Look at all the bullshit we have to do to make cars that pollute go fast. We have to reprogram the entire ECU to allow the car to spit out more CO2. We have to buy special fuel in cans that isn’t legal to sell in gas stations because it’s bad for the environment. It’s a battle that was lost decades ago. We’re in this niche underworld on this dark corner of the Internet plotting about it. Some of you guys even remove the catalyst, which makes the car unsaleable in states where most Americans live.

Tesla doesn’t need to dodge regulations. They can push another 100 ft/lb of torque to your car over the air, without costing you anything in fuel or emissions. It’s a free lunch (OK, it’s a $0.28 per mile lunch). I guarantee that 155 MPH performance update will get that car quicker in the 1/4 mile.

The killer luxury feature on a Tesla is the 17" map. Very useful in a car. I haven’t been in a single BMW/MB/Audi where I haven’t had to use my phone to get everywhere.

West: stop dodging the issue and focus. I want you to acknowledge the existence of our 1/4 mile database and look at all the B8 times in the 11s and 12s. Here: http://audirevolution.net/quartermile/

It’s a fascinating collection of 99th percentile results. I’ll get the 105 octane and join the club.

There’s plenty of 93 octane times on there (including mine) that obliterate anything you ran. It’s not an octane thing…it’s a westwest thing.

Canada crude cracked 93 octane oxygenated with MTBE is a hell of a drug.

This is what happens IRL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bItfEp3Obyg

That’s exactly what that S4 should run.

  1. it’s a B5 S4 (it’s 15 years old)
  2. it’s bone stock, so it makes 250 hp

So you’re right, in real life, that’s exactly what should happen, and that’s exactly what did happen.

For a while I thought…“why does everyone on AZ hate this west guy, he seems decent.” It seemed like he knew something about driving around turns and suspension settings…haha.

BUT this thread shows that west can’t handle the fact that he sucked at driving in a straight line. He still hasn’t accepted one ounce of the blame and gets more ridiculous with each post. I don’t see him doing a damn thing in the 1/4mile even if he calls in a fuel order from NASA.

It’s the most staggering denial of reality I’ve seen on car forums
