I do miss Colorado Springs. The South Pacific is beautiful, but a 3x.5 mi atoll can get small real quick. Luckily, I get to take flights in helos around the atoll to remind me of just how beautiful the world is. Google Keirnan Reentry Measurement System (KREMS). That’s the sensor quite on the missile range I run. Pretty nifty stuff.
Thanks a lot man. I’m really happy with it…pretty much perfect in my book in the exterior looks department. I’m still debating carbon fiber trim for the interior and a nicer steering wheel…but no rush on that.
I just really need this thing to sound as good as it looks.
Not sure. Have to look at some more pictures. They seem to drop the rears down a bit too much, but some people have put a small spacer in to get the right height…
What suspension did you get? Keep hating on the ohlins options just because they will use up all your fun money! And the rebuilds into your second home fund.

LOL…sorry can’t hear you buddy
Do you have anything pertinent to add to this conversation? I feel as though you’re foolishly ridiculing me for trying a very cost effective option out. I also don’t want to break your heart, but I don’t establish my personal worth based on my cars. I enjoy them as a hobby, but like any hobby you have to set your limits. Is it weird to you that I try and find a happy median between my hobby and investing in my future for my family and I? I guess most of you idiots can’t hold in the “elitist” attitude that makes you look more ignorant than your lack of technical knowledge about your car.
Also, I’ve never hated on the ohlins setups…I was surprised at the price, not only the initial buy, but the maintenance cost. I don’t need a suspension like that and to be honest neither do 98% of the people who own it. My car will see the road course ZERO times this year…probably ZERO next year too. How many will yours see…0…maybe 1 or 2? In the end is it worth it? The guys who do run that setup and say how GREAT it is, never ever bring up the downfalls…that is a weird thing. It’s almost like you guys are afraid to admit your $4k suspension can be a huge pain in the ass. But you get what you pay for right?
I’m not going to sit here and say this suspension is even in the same world as yours, but I’m pretty happy with it. I know a few people that had it on their B6/7 S4s, a couple RS4s actually run it but I don’t know them personally, and I know B8 guys are happy with them. If I find issues I’ll surely let everyone know and I’ll move on to the KWV3, as originally planned.
I really feel bad that you’re the type of person that needs to try and turn this into a money thing, you must feel really good telling people how much you spent on your suspension. Do you guys get achievement awards on Quattrofail for the price of your mods?..judging by most of the choices over there…probably. You can go away now, take this back to your group of asshats, and attempt to hurt my internet feelings.
FYI for you and those not aware…ST is actually owned by KW automotive GmbH, hardly a small name in the suspension world.
Not sure why you’re involving me. I think DRC at ESS ride height is great. Looks great, functional as hell, comfortable. Not sure what’s wrong with that. Sure I can’t dial in rebound rates like you for the two days a year you rag the fuck out of your car at a track day, but hey I will have to live without it. I’m too busy golfing anyway.
Still waiting for one of you dialled in roadrace superstars to beat the stock rs4 on DRC nurburgring record …
FYI zmoron has the cheap stasis suspension, not the good one. He probably bought it third hand for like 1200 bucks. Like his exhaust. Like his everything.
It’s weird that he would come in here and try to deride me because of suspension choice. I made this thread to help out people looking for DRC caps and was asked about my suspension choice. I gave my honest answer, Honesty is something most of the people Zmoron hangs around lack.
So I did some quick research and found this snippet…haha
-Suspension is obviously a status symbol to these guys. Even if it performed like shit and needed rebuilt for $1500 every 3 weeks, they would praise you because of the Name and series on the box.
-Comical how he mentions not having the money to replace his catback
It would be ignorant of me to ridicule him for that, maybe he has other priorities…maybe he wants to buy another house after relocating his family to a new area.
Zmoron is a name that has been earned, not given, and post like the ones above make it very clear why.

Just to comment on the PITA/cost of ownership…I paid $2500 (used) back in '09, rebuilt once ($440) while moving them from my A4 to my RS4, and they now have around 105k miles on them with <$3k invested. I can take them to 200k with another rebuild inbetween for a total investment of <$4k. Compare that to the realistic cost of maintaining DRC or any other aftermarket suspension at the 100-200k mile mark. Food for thought as the focus of suspension discussion is typically centered around up-front cost and <20k miles.

You’ve brought this up a couple times, and we both know that’s a total troll comment. Like anybody on the forums is going to be faster than Frank Stippler (ex DTM Audi race driver who posted the 7:58 time)…That’s like me going on the golf forums and asking why they can’t shoot -10 at St. Andrews (old course). But I digress…
Fact is that compared to other circuits, the Ring is quite favorable toward a floatly suspension with extra travel. German roads (Europe in general) favor a bit extra suspension travel as well. Here in (most of) the US, we have nice smooth roads and smooth, flat tracks. We can get away with aggressive suspension systems on the street, where the Europeans have a tougher go, running softer springs and more frequent damper maintenance.
Bottom line, DRC makes sense (by design, not necessarily cost) where it was designed, and where it was tracked. You also can’t extrapolate that because it was good under very specific conditions, that it’s the answer for every condition…
Your comment is pretty useless to be honest. I didn’t ask or say how long the suspension lasts before being rebuilt. But it surely doesn’t operate to it’s maximum potential with 100k mile on it…that I will guarantee. I don’t care how long an owner can neglect the suspension. The reason why people rave about it is because of how well it “performs” which it would probably perform the same or worse than the less expensive kits when it has 100k miles.
The point Saki is making is why do the roadrace superstars (HOBBYISTS with gay shoes) need an ohlins setup when a fucking real racecar driver shattered times at the nurburgring in stock form?
Answer: they don’t, it’s a status symbol and if they sucked at driving a road course on the stock suspension, they will suck with a $4-6k ohlins setup too. I don’t care if 100% of them say it feels better, it probably made 0% of them faster. The only reason why they would have improved time wise is because they learned how to drive. But all the cool kids that do HPDEs were upgrading to stasis so it just felt like the right thing to do
You’re saying ohlins coilovers function exactly the same (performance wise) with 10k miles or 100k miles? Yes or No
You’re also saying that a set of ohlins coilovers will make a hobbyist HPDE dirver better/faster alone, getting faster has nothing to do with seat time?
This thread is about removing the DRC and plugging the lines. Zmoron made a failed attempt at insulting me.
Nothing you can say will change my mind that most of this suspension choice is a status symbol thing…because no one that runs an HPDE once or twice a year needs a track focused suspenion system.
[quote=ohlins]Why Service?
Just as you regularly change the oil in your engine, the oil in your suspension needs to be changed as well. Worse yet, your suspension doesn’t have a filter!
With each stroke of travel, the polished surfaces of your suspension pick up microscopic particles of debris. Those particles get drawn into the oil, and over time contaminate the interior passageways. As the miles accumulate, so does the grunge. Without regular service, your high-performance suspension begins to lose it’s ability to dampen force.
To keep your investment performing at it’s design level, Ohlins recommends servicing your street suspension every 12,000 to 15,000 miles, and your track/race suspension every 10 hours of track time.
