EBWerks vid I just watched of their new exhaust.

there’s a video online comparing MTM (sounded good), Milltek (sounded bad) and OEM (sounded good).

It’s a few french guys.

ok…just got off the phone with MTM

when I bought the MTM catback it came in three pieces, they call them the mid-silencer and l/r rear silencer.

normally when you buy their exhaust you and want it to mate up to the oem downpipes you need a fourth piece which is called an adapter set.

this piece is used to mate the oem downpipes to the mid-silencer which is expecting a 2.75" diameter pipe.

i just purchased this section from mtm shipped to my house for $120 usd.

much better than getting something fabricated at an exhaust shop.

once I get this item i then can install the MTM exhaust. now I am into the exhaust for a total of $1,620.

if i end up deciding I want to sell this eventually I no doubt believe i could for between $2500-3000.

i will post up some videos of before and after once I am ready to get this done. I can even do a go-pro off the back of my car using rs4_saloon’s go-pro.

it is really nice that we can buy part directly from MTM another local RS4 recently bought the entire package downpipes and cat back from MTM as well.

Can you take pics of eeach section and then specifically the latest piece you purchased for $120? I assume it’s just a stepped pipe to allow for 2.36" ID to mate with 2.75" ID? I’d like to see if it is swedged at the CB end. Why not pick up some 2.75" DP’s and mate it with the MTM? A competent exhaust shop could build you the connecting piece. Just curious.

FYI there’s an MTM dealer in Montreal who is good to deal with according to those I’ve spoken to who bought from them. They are called HORCHAUS I believe.

They have done MTM RS4 and S4 supercharger installs, and also sell all of the MTM stuff like exhaust and spacers.

On that note…the wheel spacers…not sure why people are doing that group buy for $400 with another middle man adding a marging to MTM retail prices from Europe. Just go to the MTM dealer and get them for less.

I was talking to him about getting some 15mm spacers x2 for my rear RS4 wheels, and using 2x10mm on my fronts. That would mean I will have 2 x MTM 10mm spacers for sale, in case anyone is looking for them. Bolts included of course.

yes, i will take pics of each section. np

i figured paying the money for the correct piece from mtm is worth it especially on the resale side of selling the entire mtm exhaust in the future instead of fabricating something. plus i am sure it would have cost more to have it fabricated.

but you are correct it is go mate the oem downpipes to the mid-section.

i am going to go this route first.

next step will be to mod my spare oem downpipes. i am going to have the cat just cut off and replace the flex then run a section of 2.5" pipe that will be reduced at the end to fit into the mtm adapter.

I don’t get it. You are going to go from 2.5 (from the cat delete you are talking about) to 2.36 (the $120.00 section you just bought) then to 2.75?

yes, that might be phase 2

or i could just go from the 2.5" flex to 2.5" tubing and then have that expanded to fit into the mid section and on phase two not use the piece i bought today.

i have an extra set of downpipes that have beat up flex pieces. i bought a replacement for them at 2.5" which would work well enough.

therefore when i go that route i am just going to chop the downpipe where it goes into the oem flex. then have the new 2.5" flex welded on and put a 2.5" tubing out of that…which can be expanded to 2.75" w/o issue. then there is no need for the piece i bought from mtm.

i just want to take it step by step and not mod the mtm exhaust at all to protect the resale of it.

phase 1 oem downpipes with mtm catback

phase 2 oem downpipes w/o secondary cats with mtm catback.

just my current thoughts on this…phase 1 will happen as soon as i get the part from MTM which should be shipped tomorrow.

to add…

there is another option…just replace the oem downpipe flex couplings with the new 2.5" ones and gut the secondary.

don’t fuck with the oem downpipes

just get the catback on with your stockers

phase two is piggies and a tune to take advantage of piggies (otherwise, just leave the downpipes as is on the stock file)

phase three is getting proper 2.75" downpipes (catted or catless, whatever as long as the cat is downstream not up by the precat location) and don’t fuck around with all the neck downs or chopping up OEM DPs etc. Just keep it 2.75 throughout. You may then need to ditch this $120 part you’re buying right now. Just keep it handy for when/if you part the car out and sell the exhaust.

phase one will give you zero gains…just sound, which is arguably not better than stock. Have you watched this yet?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=96u7Th14b4U

phase two will give you a nice bump if you get piggies and a tune

phase three will be another bump but not as big as going 1 to 2 obviously, so you may end up skipping it unless you get serious with the car.

based on that video i hear no diff between stock and mtm

but i believe a video of the car driving by or taking off will show a clearer difference between the exhausts

the milltek no doubt is raspy sounding which i do not like but that IMO.

but in general i dont like to be sitting there revving the car like that

here is my video of choice

not sure if this is just catback or full mtm but sounds sweet.

here is a pic of capristo, mtm and tubi with some videos

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/409412-The-RS4-Capristo-MTM-and-Tubi-Group-Purchase

sounds mean. Pretty raspy as well. I guess its non resonated?

i have no clue…

i think we are going to have to wait til i get my setup on.

it is hard to know what these ppl have done to their cars.

i will do one with oem and then one of mtm just catback.

my car is bone stock performance wise…but i am getting tempted to do the PnP intake manifold…i wanted to sell that and use that money towards a SC.

i have the deal worked out with APR on theirs…talked with them yesterday my main issue there is my CPO which ends 08/14.

but i would really enjoy an APR SC with full JHM Stage 4 Clutch setup for 15K.

If I were an RS4 buyer interested in an APR supercharger, I would just buy a used one from one of the many people who will be selling theirs here shortly (once JHM and AMD get rolling).

I know that JHM has 3 beta customers lined up for their blower kit, and 2 of them have APR superchargers already, which will need to be sold on the used market.

With the APR TVSr1320 kit selling for around $12-13,000 now…and with APR about to likely launch a TVS1900 kit for us…I can’t see a used TVSr1320 kit selling for much more than $8,000 (considering JHM and AMD are going to offer stronger kits for around $9000-9500). Not sure how you’d tune the car.

p.s. MTM looks non resonated.

SO…we have the FIRST performance numbers from EBwerks with their revised exhaust (not the exhaust they wanted to sell…but the exhaust they cobbled together once they had to find new mufflers etc.)

Mick logged his car a few weeks back with stock exhaust on, JHM tune etc. etc. and logged the following time running in 3rd gear from 3000 to 8000 RPM

7.19 seconds

So last night, with the ebwerks full 2.75" exhaust and catless downpipes, as well as another 65 lbs of weight reduction, he did 3 pulls. Temperatures were the same, same road etc.

7.04, 7.09, 7.14

Average time was only 1 tenth faster than STOCK…and don’t forget the 65 lbs and now being catless!

That’s pretty terrible to be honest. The 70 lbs alone could have accounted for the grand majority of that 1 tenth gap. The catless alone could have accounted for the 1 tenth gap. On top of this, he had a full 2.75" catback with xpipe (vs. 2.36" stock catback with ecs hpipe) …and 2.75" catless exhaust (vs. 2.50" tapering to 2.36" stock downpipes with main cats).

I think Mick must be a little disappointed. He sacrificed his integrity, lied, cheated, slandered…all to promote this exhaust to all of his quattroworld buddies and anyone else who would listen…and now it turns out to do just about FUCK ALL performance wise vs. stock exhaust.

This has to be treated as an EPIC FAILURE and I can’t wait for him to rattle off dozens of excuses. Funny enough, he is convinced his car is good for an 12.0 second quarter mile run now lol (he ran 12.4 with the stock exhaust). Ummmm, 1 tenth in a full gear pulll does not equal 4 tenths on teh strip Mick. Wake up.

wow, thats a mighty large waste of money there if that is the case. You gotta really be curious what he would run in the 1/4 mile now. Is there any similar data on the beta JHM exhaust to compare EBwerks to?

Not really because he has removed a ton of weight and has an updated tune since he logged/tracked the car with his JHM exhaust.

no I mean has someone with the JHM exhaust done a similar test with their car? I cant recall any data on how well the JHM performed hence why I pose the question.

Either way Im not a fan of how that car sounds. If moron mick doesnt run a respectable time at the track, I see someone filing bankruptcy soon…

Just looked at his thread…talk about skewed data! None of those runs were on the same day as stock and I have a feeling the JHM numbers were made up, shall we revisit his oh so credible past? How the heck does he go from a 8.47 stock a few years back to suddenly a 7.2? Only factor weighing in here is the weight reduction.

Cant wait to see this “final” drag strip run. Should be good
