ECU and TCU Upgrades

New to the community with a 2010 S6 and looking for possible ECU and TCU upgrades. I have been reviewing the different posts here but really have not seen much in terms of these upgrades. Any recommendations or is it even worth doing?
I know a few members on here have had it done and seen a brief discussion with APR and JHM… just wondering if there was a noticeable difference.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

Welcome.

So far what we have seen is that if its a NA car JHM is the way to go all the way. Before I go on to the JHM Ill let you know what we have seen so far.

Some have tested the APR tune and mentioned it gives some noticeable changes others have said they felt the APR tune did noting. This was the same for most APR in most NA apps.

The JHM Tune for the S6 or S8 is still in testing. But the good thing here is that its been testing for a long time now and they will be posting actual before and after results as I understand it. Also JHM is the only one that will have a TCU tune for the car. This is one more reason to possibly wait if you are thinking about getting one or the other. If the V10 Na audi tunes turn out like the 4.2 RS4 and S4 then you will be in good shape. JHM took months and months of time in those tunes and they are by far the best tunes on the market both performance and hp wise.

Another nice thing about JHM is that they are actually active right now in the V10 market. They are making parts to support the V10 and looking to possibly dig even deeper soon. Right now JHM makes intake spacers that are a big big help. They also have several other parts like a light weight crank pulley that I love on my S4. JHM also makes a great set of lightweight rotors for the S6 and S8 that save I think over 10lbs each side.

A few things to think about

Justine can you link to the jhm rotors. I can’t seem to find them on their website.

Any idea when JHM will actually release their ECU/TCU upgrades? :o

Ditto on the JHM rotors. Would love some rear rotors for my A6. Was looking on JHM’s site the other day and nothing was listed.

It is a surprise. Haven’t really heard many reviews from the few prototypers

Usually JHM is very very good at testing and working with the prototypers. I would expect to hear more in the next few weeks as the weather gets better and we are into spring.

Thanks for all the responses guys! Great help… I also wish the JHM would release some costing for this type of upgrade and they are spoken on this site through all the different posts.

Looking at ordering the intake spacers in the next few days to start off along with some H&R springs. Problem is, vehicle is under Audi warranty still. Wondering if installing the spacers would derail the warranty. I got the extra warranty for a reason… expensive to fix.

Still learning a lot about this car… its been some time since I owned a B5.5 S4.

Totally off topic and I should really start a new thread but any reliable mechs in the Toronto area?

I’m perfectly happy with my APR tune - the torque gain is tangible, and a few more ponies make it more willing

coupled w/ the 3" pipes… it’s TANGIBLE - whereas stock the car was substantial… it’s now… violent. Muwahahahahaa :sunglasses:

is the JHM tune “morer betterer”? Maybe? Probably?? Is it (yet/widely) AVAILABLE???

therein’s the rub :sunglasses:

not to mention, I was able to fold my tune in with the purchase of the car - kindasorta convenient heh heh

Supposedly, the JHM tunes will kick the APR ECU tune into the dust. I assume, given what some people have said on here, the JHM tunes will be exceptionally well, and the price will most likely be competitive to the APR’s.

Just something to think about. When APR had issues in the past with getting some of there project cars to make power they brought in the JHM tuner to help.

With the excitment of the car and now the expansion of the membership here to talk about it. There is going to be a lot of excitment. The good thing is this. The JHM tunes generally are about the same or less then the other big box tuners. Also they have consistantly made way more power and the good thing is when there is a power update they usually are free updates.

This isnt to say the APR tune is a bad tune but if you are going to want to really get the most out of your car and at the same time support the one company that seems to have taken an interest in the V10 motor after so many years it might make sense to follow JHM.

Try contacting countvohn on here. He would be able to help probably answer more questions that I would

Btw- post some pics. AlwAys loved the c6.5 nice LED tails! Where are you located and did you get a pretty good deal?

As soon as I can get a day off, I’m going to schedule a trip to JHM’s shop to see what they can do for a tune on my S6. They’re only about an hour from me, so it’s silly for me not to give it a try.

That’s not bad at all… about 28 hour drive from over here, lol.

Get over their asap and post up impressions on ecu tcu, if I still had my s6 I would have done it asap

And toss on some headers while your at it. Total transformation, every time I think of headers and proper exhaust I start scouring for another c6 s6 or d3 s8, hard to resist at current price points. Throttle response!

I can’t afford headers right now, too many other hobbies outside of my car ;D

But I’ll try to make it down there soon for some tunes, I’m having the same problem as V8A6, work isn’t leaving me a whole lot of free time. Have already flown 56,000 miles this year and it’s only the middle of march :o

I tried to find the link to the rotors couldnt find it.

For everything V10 just email them V10@jhmotorsports.com They will have more information then I will.

Scott if you havent already I would send them an e mail V10@jhmotorsports.com

You can only get the TCU tune at JHM or here local to detroit so your in good hands being so close

I hear ya, I am in the UK for a bit for work. But I don’t let that get in the wAy of gun, time is money though right. Gotta pay for these beasts and toys somehow
