ECUTOOL.com VAG Com cables - some info

Did you make sure to choose USB in the options? 1/1/2011 has worked for me with 10.6 on win7 32 bit.

ignition in the on position? Just trying to think of things I learned the first time using it

Well…I ended up doing “live chat” with the ECUtool folks. They concluded it was a hardware problem but since my cable was ordered about 2 years ago…well…oh well. In any case, I ended up ordering another, newer cable for $35 shipped. He supposedly packed and shipped while we were on live chat. Haha.

I’ll update this thread when I get the new cable and let you know what happens. Since it is the 11.10 cable, maybe it will even work with my preferred laptop (with 64-bit OS).

Oh yeah, although the product isn’t available on their site, they somehow snagged one for me and made it active very briefly. http://www.sinosells.com/goods.php?id=7274

Ok, so I’m gonna share my experience with you guys, so if people like me are having trouble they won’t freak out. I fucked with this god damn cable for 4 hours yesterday on 2 laptops. My first attempt was to run XP Pro(32) on my MBP using VMWare Fusion. I had no success at this yesterday, I could not for the life of me get the driver to install for the cable. So I pulled out my old Toshiba POS with Vista(32) and had the same exact problem. I then gave up and went to bed pissed off.

I am using a Super 812.4 cable for reference, so I’m not sure if this will pertain to every other cable.

So today I decide to try again, I uninstalled everything, including drivers and tried this all over again, except this time, I disconnected completely from the internet. This is step by step what worked for me.

For my Toshiba:
1.Follow Saki’s original post and download the files in his link.
2.Make sure that your computer cannot connect to the internet (you should probably turn it off every time you open VCDS)
3.I then installed version 10.6.4, you may choose whatever, but this works so I’m happy.
4.I chose not to install the driver at the end, so unclick the box and FINISH
5.Do not enter VCDS yet
6.Plug in cable and you will be prompted to install the driver for it, choose the location and select the Rosstech folder that was made, then the VCDS folder. Driver should install and the cable is ready.
7.Last, set your computer time to 1/1/2011 and open VCDS, go to options and test cable, then SAVE and enjoy your VCDS on a budget.

For my MBP (with Intel chip)
I have Windows XP Pro(32) w/SP3 installed, using VMWare Fusion
Enter XP through VMWare
1.Follow Saki’s original post and download the files in his link.
2.Make sure that your computer cannot connect to the internet in VMWare(disable networks) and I also turned my OSX wifi off (you should probably turn it off every time you open VCDS)
7.Last, set your computer time to 1/1/2011 and open VCDS, go to options and test cable, then SAVE and enjoy your VCDS on a budget…on a MAC

Hope this helps someone out, and if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

attaboy, nice one. These things are weird.

if someone wants an ebay cable let me know, you pay shipping and its yours I need to clean out my garage

^x2, also have one pay for shipping and it’s yours.

I lost my vagcom cable. Have searched the house top to bottom and couldn’t find it. Going to order another.

Anyone locally (Toronto area) need one? I think you get a deal on shipping when you buy these things in bulk.

X3 I also have an ebay cable I’m lookin to ditch. Wait, we should post these on AZ

god damn…ecutool.com doesn’t have the full cable on their site anymore

just the ebay cable that uses the free shareware, and a bunch of $200 odometer ‘correction’ shit.

WTF!

Looks like the value of my ecutool cable just went up $300

Hahahaha

Take a look at my reply #41 above. Not sure why they aren’t offering the cheapies for open sale any longer. BTW, I will try euroswagr’s recommendations with the cable I have that doesn’t work. Who knows, maybe I’ll end up with 2 functioning cables (still waiting for the new one to come in the mail).

Wait a second…

Previously this direct link would go to the $22 cable and say it was no longer available or something to that effect (it was broken english). Now it appears to be available through this direct link. Enjoy…hopefully it works.

I still don’t understand how the software they have hosted doesn’t somehow infringe on ross-tech’s stuff…

Alright, tried this out and still no go. Says my cable is not connected to the car. Hopefully I’ll receive my replacement from ECUtool.com in the next week or so.

Now if the software would just download from any of those sites.
So I can try it with my cable.

man I fucked up

I bought a cable from that sinosells link and paid thru paypal. 1x22+12 shipping = $34. It said ‘transaction complete’ but then another window said ‘your payment did not go through’. So I checked my paypal account itself, in the history section. Nothing for that day.

So I tried to buy it again…only this time I thought, ‘I’ll buy two, because someone is always asking me for one’. OK…2 bought (2x22+12 shipping = $56).

Same messages.

So I just thoguht ‘fuck it, I’ll try this at a later date’.

Then I got an email from paypal, a receipt for my payment of $34 to sinosells or whatever their weird paypal name is. The I got a shipping confirmation. Oh…ok great. So the first one did go through.

Then I got the confirms on the other order lol. So now I have 3 cables en route from Hong Kong.

Anyone local want one? Price is $35 CDN (my price after taxes, fees etc)

didn’t that link a while back work? the one with all the versions?

I might have it on my computer somewhere. I can post it to one of those file uploader pages for everyone. Goes up to 11.something but the 10.6 works great.

I’ll take one off you for lending out to some of the guys at work. Rather than wondering if I’ll ever get my £200 cable back! I’ll pay by Interac and you can post it or I can get it off you the next time we meet, I’m in no rush.

you and i have very little luck with the frigging post. Did you ever get that nav dvd that went missing?

Nope. Hence the suggestion we just do it in person sometime.
