Exhaust set up

Guys I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a new exhaust system.

I have been looking at the JHM setup but the problem is that too high imprt duties make it a less appealing option.
So contemplating mostly among EU manufacturers of which Miltek is out of thr question, i am thinking eother HMS or Supersprint.

Any ideas?

Got any holidays to the US planned? I’m in Canada and used the holiday/“gifts” allowance to bring an exhaust back. The customs officer lol’d. I didn’t have to actually have it with me… acceptable to come as “goods to follow”. You’re UK based right?

Yes check your holiday gift allowance from customs. At the very least you want to spring for the jhm dps they make a very large difference

Just stay stock.

Gut your precats, and disable the vacuum flaps on the stock exhaust so that it’s always open, and stick with that .

The other exhausts are a waste of money it seems. Going 2.75" makes good sense.

+1. Either gut the stock system and zip the vacuum, or just step up into something that is 2.75".

+1,
2.75 or nothing!

you mean +2 :stuck_out_tongue:

how much are u looking at for import costs?

I am based in Greece. Already gutted the stock pre-cats but given that the pipeline includes a SC down the line i want to start gradually.

Imprt duties may well reach another 1k and asummin that the entire set up costs another 3.5k you get the pic that economic wise makes no sense.

What i can do maybe is have a friend who lives in NYC buy it for me and ship it here to avoid the customs… I will check if that works.

You will still have to pay import taxes and duties… and a fine on top if you try that one!

The jhm FULL exhaust with catted downpipes and a res or non res catback with duties would be what… 3500 Eur?

That will still cost you the same or less than any of the European options…for just a catback in some cases

Mtm = 4000 Eur for just a catback
Supersprint?

And as we know these options are worse

Mtm is close, but it has an h pipe where there should be an X Pipe, has some S4 looking tips, and frankly doesn’t sound that good at all. Most people end up cutting out the resonated section, but then it’s too raspy. You could also replace the tips with some nice rs4 style ovals, but now you’re adding another 500 or so to the price of what is already ludicrously expensive…for just a catback! Oh but it has valves (lol). Ironically the people who say how great the valves are are the same people who talked about policing vacuum and by passing the valves on their stock system.

Saki, have you rad my post?

I am not thinking about MTM or anyting of this crap.

The closest in terms of dimater I can come up with (and an X-pipe) is from Supersprint

HMS EUR2.850 (https://www.hms-tuning.de/en/products/exhaust-systems/audi/audi-a4-rs4/audi-a4-b7-rs4/)
Supersprint 4.500 (http://www.supersprint.com/en/IT/prod-329-10661-audi_a4_rs4_quattro_sedan__avant_42i_v8_420_hp__06_E28093E280BA.aspx)

JHM ca EUR4.500 (USD$4000 + Duties EUR1.000)

HMS is of shorter diameter…Supersprint, well I am sure they haev quality products.

JHM=Supersprint in terms of cost.

When you break it down like that:

  • HMS - 60mm exhaust = 2.36 inches. That’s no better than stock. Forget it
  • That boils down to JHM vs superprint - I don’t know much about the supersprint. But there is LOTS of data on the JHM. I have one. Quality is awesome, sound is awesome. Stick with what we have good evidence for

how about having someone build u a custom 2.75 for you?

for me jhm is the only option. I himmed and hawed over the price but its worth every penny, even the extra costs. IMHO.

Sure I did. Have you not read mine?

As for ‘superspirint know what they’re doing’… These are the guys who made headers for the rs4…which already has headers? Lol

They were $4500 and did fuck all. Made the cars slower in fact. We had engineering student members on here who immediately pointed out the flaws in the superspirint headers design years ago. Supersprint just kept guessing. They came out and admitted that they don’t work. Does that mean they took them off the website? Nope. They’re still there. Asking 3000 euro to go slower than stock.

Their downpipes and catback start at 2.75" but then taper down to 2.50" and then again taper down to 2.36". Useless.

Supersprint appears to be clueless.

Jhm exhaust is first of all catted downpipes and a catback. Second of all the price in euro is about 2500 for full jhm exhaust including downpipes . Not sure who told you 4500???

Same folks who would push people to other brands…

JHM Math…

USD cost
System 3.095
Cats + Vabands 550
Shipping 500
Total 4.145

Fx Rate 1.25 = EUR3.316

Duties + Export Services etc… EUR1.000

Total EUR4.300

You were making it sound like you thought the JHM exhaust was 4500 EUR to begin with. You putting the math down to look at actually shows how much sense it makes to go with the JHM FULL exhaust for 4500EUR shipped to you.

…or you could pay 4000EUR for just catbacks that do fuck all and have almost no performance data

People come to AR for honesty, not to have people tell them they are right about everything. You’re getting great recommendations, facts about the other exhaust systems, but you seem to be more interested in an argument about total price of the exhaust.

Nick, to be honest, I think I would stick with piggies. If you find a used Milltek for 400 euros, buy that for some sound.

Paying 4000+ for Supersprint or whatever you want to name makes very little sense. Getting a full 2.75" exhaust makes a load of sense, but it appears the financial commitment is too much for you.

I find it weird that you’re so turned off by paying 4000 euros for a full JHM exhaust including downpipes, cats etc. yet you want to pay that for an inferior design…because it’s local? Maybe it feels like spending 1000 on duties + 500 on shipping means you’re paying for less…but you don’t get what you pay for with exhausts. You get what companies think they can rip you off for, because the majority of the owners of these high end cars are clueless, and are more interested in ‘exclusive’ and ‘custom’.

SO to recap the three options that make the most sense

  1. stick with what you’ve got or maybe add a cheap second hand catback for sound
  2. get the JHM
  3. find a good fabricator to build you something 2.75

p.s. show me where it says the duties on some steel pipe is 40%. That sounds absurd, and I don’t think it could possibly be accurate.

You are taking my post the wrong way.

The math post was meant as a reply to Saki about how the JHM can reach nearly EUR4500. Nothing more than this.
