EYEspI/ Mantis GIAC stage 2 issues

Pulley arrived today at 3pm, got it installed and tested in a little under 2.5hrs, should have been about 20min less but I spent some time fishing one of the rad support bolts out of no mans land.

I will be dropping the car off at 8am for its flash. I’m getting excited

I picked up the car at 3:45, warmed it up and then got on it. WOT off the line resulted in a hard pull to 6k then a violent lurch forward, gear changes are slowed dramatically to 1-2sec when 2/3 to 3/4 throttle. My DSG hates the stage 2 file, too much power. ???

I spoke at length with Garrett from GIAC, it seems that the aggressive GIAC file doesn’t work so well with early 10my DSG programming. I can either try out the DSG file on a money back guarantee or have them write me a modified(less powerful) engine file.

I will try out the DSG file first obviously

I call bs on Garrett and his upsell. Can’t type now, but that’s bs and others can chime in. Upsell

Send Arin an email, if it’s bs he’ll tell you honestly

Nobody tried to upsell me, I test drove the car and it buts power spastically at the top of first, wont shift at redline in any other gear, and shifts are severely delayed (1-2sec)

I contacted GIAC to alert them of the issue, I was told that the 2010 with original programming reacts very well to the DSG flash and these issues should be remedied with new software. On the off chance that does not solve the issue, the software was offered with a money back guarantee.

As stated no upsell, in fact if anything I wasn’t informed of the necessity of the DSG flash in the 2010my (if the flash solves the issue) so I was undersold :stuck_out_tongue:

Or maybe me DSG mech unit is failing and I should tap Audi for a replacement

Ryan, Does it do this? This was the issue when the pulley was first released… APR figured it out quick… I don’t think they dialed the tune down to do it… Do you have a gopro you can take a vid if it’s not similar? I think this is what Jay is probably referencing…

Thanks prime, exactly what I was talking about. I just don’t want you to be forced to buy something that nobody else had to EyespI.

Think about it, you’re at altitude and on pump gas, how can you be developing too much power, compared to the guys like me and others who have never had the issue with the 2010? And run race gas, etc…I betting it’s an issue like APR had above with their tune, which they fixed.

Hopefully your mechatronics is ok…I may be in for my second replacement soon…I’m getting the same symptoms I had before the first one was replaced…75K km now…:frowning:

I don’t have a go pro, the symptoms are similar, but not identical. Apparently the file I have is the exact same as Austin has in his car, so I would have thought that these issues would have been dealt with. I am confused and frustrated, also a little apprehensive about going any further until I get my mech unit investigated

Talk to Arin, at the very least he might be able to tell you if that’s the same symptom as to what they dealt to with before. Esp with different box codes on the ECU. If your symptoms are the same, it was a straight ECU flash that fixed it for prime and others. And I think we can guarantee they didn’t have to tone down the power on primes car…!

Hope you get it sorted out.

Given you got the tune that Austin runs means you have the newest one that is technically “not released” for the B8 yet… I know Jeff has it but not sure who else has it for the B8? He has the DSG tune as does Austin… I have never heard this issue on vendorzine before on a GIAC stage II tune and unless they don’t sell many I’m sure we would have heard of it already… Something tells me the revision has caused this and they didn’t notice because of the presence of the DSG tune… However, given APR never touched the dsg when they fixed their stage II tune the dsg tune may mask or work around it?

Unfortunately, Jeff still hasn’t shared his new improved tune logs  so I’m not sure how more power is being made? No more bypass? More timing? both? something else? Wonder if the tune tripped some safety mechanism as that is what it seemed like on my car… Maybe the new higher boost is hitting the requested limit and causing the car to go limp?

Wish I could see what it looked like on your car… Make a post on vendorzine and ask if anyone else is experiencing this…

I have been assured that it is the same file that Austin made his 11.77 passes on, not the newest and unreleased file.

I just took it in to have it dyno’ed, it made a pitiful 308hp, 265ishtq, I will post the graph later today DA is currently approx 4200ft

The car feels like crap when the pump gas file is loaded, I have to drive on the stock file program

Needless to say, I am pissed, I spent wayyyyyyyy toooooooo much money ($2600 cad)(and I installed the pulley myself) on my GIAC tuning for the car to feel this slow and run this shitty. I am frustrated beyond belief, and am ready to throw the towel in.

I appreciate all the input. Jspazzz, what were the symptoms for your failing mech unit, mine is starting to thump and bump worse on decel, also cold there seems to be more bumping and slippage into D. Could be that my clean bill of health was actually Audi passing the buck to my aftermarket warranty, considering 2 local dealerships have done full inspections on it before factory warranty ran out and neither seemed to notice this odd cold trans behavior, yet it happens everyday on my first and second time from R to D. I am getting a big thump now when depressing the brake pedal and shifting from P to D

Someone tell me I’m crazy please, but I liked my car better bone stock. So far the stage 2 beast mode is eluding me.

For reference on the dyno, it was a dyno dynamics, my Imola managed 339whp with a turbo seal weaping so badly that the AFR was below 10 and we set of the smoke/fire alarms in the dyno cell.

I am waiting for my upgraded can-bus cable to arrive and then I will take some logs, maybe others will see what I can’t

Man that sucks bud… Cars can be frustrating no doubt, but hang in there… So it’s not the latest and greatest tune, interesting… I wonder why we haven’t heard of others getting this after a tune? GIAC is a good company and should help you actually they need to help resolve this as something is not right, given the dyno results and drivability issues… If you don’t feel they are going to try and make it right I would get my money back and either go APR or stay stock… Not sure what else you really could do… You mention switching to stock and driving do you see any issues then? Wish I could help more… Let us know when you get the new cable as getting logs couldn’t hurt… Will at least see why it isn’t making power once we can see bypass, boost and timing…

Sorry to hear, EYEspI. This hasn’t been the experience of most if not all GIAC customers from what I’m aware. Have you ruled out any potential installation issues? That’s a job I certainly would not have even considered to do myself.

If the problem is on GIAC’s end, I hope they make it right. Otherwise, as Ron said, you may want to try APR.

No issues when using the stock file, the DSG is a bit thumpy/bumpy when first switching over to the stock file, but seems to smooth itself out after some normal driving (25km)

I was just telling my wife that this car was supposed to be a no brainer, easy tune/pulley/intake and some wheels, then done. For the purchase price+warranty+mods , I am only 4K shy of a lightly used S6, which is what I originally wanted. I’ll hang on to this for another month or 2 and see if it can get sorted, if not I will cut my losses, sell it and move on

Not much to the install, basically pull the rad support forward and pop the pulley off, heat and install the new pulley. The car ran fine before getting it tuned, and still does when using the stock file, just the pump and I suspect race file a fubbarred

“Talk to Arin to help GIAC fix their issue”

  1. calm down. Getting frustrated or angry won’t help anything, especially not your own state of mind. You’ve experienced what I would consider a pretty minor setback (that I agree should never have happened, but hey it did) and are already mentally divoricing yourself from the car and selling it. Reality is that APR went through these growing pains when developing their 1 & 2 stuff, and I guess GIAC is as well (admittedly 2 years later than I would have thought lol). The GIAC cars in New York (auditude etc) were having some weird issues a while ago too and only recently got their boost bypass issues solved. AS jspazz said, there is a myriad of ECU types and codes so perhaps it’s just that.

  2. ask for a refund. I’m sure you can get the majority of the money back, no?

  3. why was it $2600? What else did you buy?

At the end of the day, this car SHOULD be super simple getting a tune/pulley and all is well but sometimes shit happens. Primetime had a few problems with his car when he first got tuned (wrong tune, then that hesitation issue etc) as did a bunch of the guys who currently enjoy killer performance, so just be patient with it. Drive it in stock mode until GIAC comes back to you with a solution. The ‘solution’ of you buying more software is a bit ridiculous. If you can’t run GIAC stage 2 on a now 5 year old S4 without buying a TCU tune, one has to wonder wtf is going on over at GIAC. I agree with jspazz that that is not an appropriate response from the supposed tuning leaders. “Buy this thing…maybe it will work”.

p.s. APR has clearly got this B8 locked down compared to GIAC.

sorry to hear, i would be more than pissed spending that kind of money to only have issues
