EYEspI/ Mantis GIAC stage 2 issues

Saki, you are right, I am mentally divorcing myself from the car, it is my defense mechanism. I paid $2600 because that is what the local AWE/GIAC dealer decided to sell their product at, I bought nothing more than a AWE pulley, GIAC stage 2 file+race gas file. They even pulled the old customer discount crap on me when they only charged me an additional $65 to install the stage 2 file.

I thought that these issues would have been dealt with, I hadn’t heard others complaining. I just want my shit to work like everyone else. If that isn’t going to happen, I will dump the car, simple solution, I don’t want to deal with setbacks that should be hammered out by now

I see what you mean. I’m frankly a bit surprised that they haven’t got it sorted out yet.

Here is the dyno graph from this morning

You are looking at Stage 2 file (run 3) vs stock file (run 1) The first run of each of the files was lower than the subsequent runs, final stock file run was 279whp

Interesting that there was that little upward notch at the end.

Hopefully with a vag com cable, you can pull some logs so we can see what’s happening.

Here’s a chart I made way back when I still had a B8 S4:

The only run that had the blip was the one shown on the graph, it was about 5hp higher than the others, directly due to the blip.

My first course of action was to send GIAC an email outlining my issues and the results of my local dyno. I know they won’t give a shit about dyno results, but I have some so why not share. I also let them know that I don’t intend to purchase the DSG software at this moment and would like the shifting issues dealt with on the tune currently installed in my car. I will wait for their response Monday, until then I will drive my other cars, as well I am running the stock tune in the S4

I’d possible consider making a new thread about this issue. Bringing this to light might help others and possibly put some heat on giac to do more about it. You’ve spent good money on the car and are rightly frustrated. I know it is a terrible conflict of interest but I would like to hear APR’s thoughts on this. So far it seems other APR stage 2 guys don’t have this.

Hey, sorry I had been traveling and didn’t get the chance to respond…my DSG keeps giving sensor errors only, which last time prompted them to change the mech unit. It’s doing the same thing again, so I’d like to see if they can replace it before warrantee runs out next year. All the sensors are there so if something’s wrong they replace the whole thing. Mines a 2010, don’t know the build date.

In terms of physical effect on DSG, no, I’ve had nothing, except when it’s really really cold and that very first acceleration from R to D and it can’t figure the clutch set point. When I went from stock to stage II the trains was fine, and nothing in the world would have made me more excited than the difference in power…it was really unexpected and made what I at first considered a boring auto trans car into a frickin warrior.

I’ve swapped the pulley a few times, sounds like you’re not too worried…consider the switch to APR if GIAC is not budging on the issue. I agree with what everyone has wrote, and wish you had a stage II initial experience like I did at first…it was surprising I hung onto my licence those first few months. Nothing made me smile more than getting on it. GIAC owes you that…

Ryan, Any updates?

No, but after sitting in on my dyno, a friend decided to purchase the APR stage 2 file/pulley

He put his car the same machine(dyno) with the same operator with the same ambient conditions and managed 330 whp with no drive ability issues.

It is back at the shop that flashed it today, not sure what their plan is, they aren’t returning my calls

I didn’t initially think your dyno is all that hideous. Dyno Dynamics are notoriously ‘tough’ vs. the numbers that a mustang or dynojet would spit out.

Look at your dyno delta. You went from 275 to 305. That’s +30 whp aka +11%

What is normal delta on stage 1 or 2? and if your car is having problems, yet is still putting down +11% that’s promising.

What was the other guy’s before dyno? Any changes in temps when you guys dyno’d?

Same temps, DA was listed at 4200 as well, humidity was slightly less.

I believe normal Delta is 20%, which is why is my concern, not overall power. My friend did not do any stock trim pulls

That stinks man… dyno numbers aside, ie the 10% or so delta from GIAC to APR… the drivability is what would concern me the most and I think is what you are most upset about and rightfully so… I’d try to work more with GIAC directly and I hate to say it and you probably don’t want to go this route but post your story on vendorzine and you’ll get action…

You got it Ron, the numbers are the numbers, but actual driveability is what makes or breaks this. I drove his car 30 mins after he was flashed, amazingly smooth, not neck break power, but very predictable and generous when you need it

Well now that you have an APR car on the dyno to compare, I think you have a good argument with GIAC.

I would just take the money back refund and throw on an APR pulley if you are getting antsy. Maybe APR will give you the “make the switch” price break since you are coming from another tuner! lol

I would post the story here vs audixine. Posting on az it will turn into a shit show where you won’t get the point across without bs and drama. Here the collection of members are smarter and fair. I woulddeffinitly make a thread on this tho .

OK so clearly 10% isn’t nearly enough. Something’s definitely wrong.

I wouldn’t really comprae the two that way. We’re not comparing the GIAC tune to APR here…we’re talking about a fucked up GIAC tune that isn’t working lol. That’s like saying you’re tough because you beat the shit out of a professional boxer (who happened to have 2 broken arms at the time)

lol, I will post on AZ later this aft.

Chris, I suggested vendorzine since it will get GIACs attention… Love this site and you know how I feel about vendorzine but way more exposure over there and it would force GIAC to address… IMHO…

My worry was threads on az about stuff like this turn off topic quick then they go down hill and people that end up reading them in the future never get a good idea on what happened because the attacks and shit mess it up. Tod@awe came on here to help Pete when he had an issue. I would say we will see more open diagolog here vs AZ where it turns into attacks and lies…I say start a thread here and pm tod@awe and whoever@giac with the thread.

Chris, I don’t disagree with you really… However, I think Ryan has already tried contacting them from what he mentioned and he has already posted what’s going on over here just not in a separate thread. To truly help others and himself Ryan needs the soon to be tuned guys seeing this. GIAC will then have to address the issue or risk business. Ryan paid a lot of money and the product hasn’t delivered IMO from what he has shown and explained, they suggested he spend more money to fix? Honest and real feedback on the site they probably sell the most tunes through will help him the most… I think most over here are already tuned anyway. Also, just so no one thinks I am doing this because it’s GIAC keep in mind I posted apr issues on aw and vendorzine twice… Again, just my .02
