FastEddie's Build Thread

They were doing a tour through the US going to different cities. I got an email invitation from Audi Club North America. Was pretty kickass and Monticello was AWESOME! Just keep an eye out for it. I have no idea when it will happen again. BTW where in Florida are you? I lived in quite a few places down there before moving to NYC and my father is down there. If you ever need to use a lift he is more than welcoming to people. He has install parties at his house and doesnt charge anything. He is on here too but doesnt post much, NICETTS. Just a little FYI.

And Mr. Wrong i love it down there. My wife has some family down there and so do i but i like it more for the scenery, room, cost of living compared to here, hell i could be here all night explaining. Plus i can transfer work from here to there pretty easily. Im looking around the charlotte area. The ONLY reason im not there now is my wife who is reluctant of moving (her entire family is here except for the Aunt/Uncle that live down there). It took a lot of convincing but she is finally coming around. We are just gonna wait for her daughter to finish Highschool (starts in August). Hence the 4-5 years waiting to move.

I’m in St. Petersburg - Tampa Bay area.

An Audi club from Ohio does a Daytona event the first weekend in December. There are many other groups that hold HPDE days at various tracks but I’m not aware of anything Audi specific.

FYI - I’m on the other coast in Jupiter.

If my memory serves correct that event is hellishly expensive. Like $1,500 when a normal local event to me costs around $440-500. Really not worth it unless I can go flat out and achieve speeds close to 180 mph.

Wouldn’t that be the point?

Anyway I think if f1 drivers see the overwhelming danger in ovals, we should too lol.

When I checked, they don’t drive all the way around the oval like the Nascar drivers do. Instead there is one long section of the oval that they let people on and then the rest is through the middle section.

^^ - true. They used a large section of one side of the banked oval then almost an entire straight away but most of the road course is in the infield. They are really scootin’ by the time they have to brake.

It’s $500-$700 with other groups like PDG. They use the Rolex 24 Hour course which means NASCAR turns 2, 3 and 4. The bus stop just before turn 3 by design is there to slow cars down. I was reaching 165-170mph by the start/finish. It’s worth every second if you hit 180mph or not. Here is a clip from several years ago. The camera really starts to shake at 140mph +

Look that up on Facebook, ask to join tell them Ed with the TTS referred you.

Nice write up,

P.S.

Fast Eddie your Dad sounds cool!

Seconded.

Thirded

It would appear that the “Ayes” have it.

Guess that Fast Eddie is just going to have to deal with it!!

Typical track day prices are around $250 a day. I have done Road Atlanta and Atlanta Motorsports Park. I have used MVP, Chen is too expensive their is another popular one it escapes me now. Look for BMW and Porsche club events.
Georgia Audi Club does a fall HPDE for $250 at Atlanta motorsports park.

It is quite an experience on a track where the only limit resides between your legs! Gave me a whole lot of appreciation for Road Racing when you can see over the hill to the curve and your foot is buried.

Then there’s always the approach to the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca.

Ya Jeff, your close by so if you ever need anything hit up NICETTS. As for the driving event, it was blast. Never got above 110 but still had fun. Putting the headers on this weekend. Will be updating in a few weeks. (also having my CF hood fitted painted and full front respray).

Couple of pics from over the weekend.

Lifted the car and found that i snapped part of the 034 end link on rear.

Did a tranny flush while it was up. Took a pic inside to see the mecatronic unit

Headers are on. Sounds amazing. Videos coming in the spring. I have a go pro now so will take Saki’s proper exhaust video. Intake manifold with spacers and 034 MAF hose, 034 front end rebuild, LSD and both oil coolers still need to be done before April.

Also for those wondering, i posted pics of the stamp of the engine on the first page.

if you have a go pro, look into getting an external microphone (you may need a gopro external microphone dongle to do so…about $15 at bestbuy)

Looking good Eddie. Great pics.

Here’s the external mic I’m using and I’m pretty sure other people are using as I got the recommendation from Sakimano’s thread. Can’t beat $24

I got this mic adapter for $11

It just sucks because you can’t use it with the waterproof case that comes with the camera, which I really just look at as a protective case, without modification. I think there was a cable mod you can do or you can drill the case.
