first pic of a blown 3.0TFSI - APR tuned

Yeah my mistake, it was cylinder 5.

I believe Arin posted some logs a while back that showed Revo’s modified knock sensor map. Looks like their new tunes are much safer.

Thanks- exactly why I was asking.

If you want some good discussion about revo’s most recent tune revision (stg 1+), I’d check out some of skywagons threads with the revo software (minus all the bickering lol). He took logs and we discussed them in those threads.

The tune was shown to pull timing due to knock detection. A revo engineer on AZ did claim that they modified the ‘timing pull due to knock’ sensitivity of the factory calibration. His claim was that this was an ideal way to tune the Simos 8.x, specifically, the calibration strategy that allowed for the most aggressive/safe/smooth timing curve.

In practice, we saw in skywagon’s logs that his bypass valve was opening a lot, usually close to redline. He went back to revo for a custom day on the dyno, I don’t really remember if we looked at his logs after that.

Yes, I did, in fact, put out some logs.

Thanks! I did see his posts on AZ - one of the few useful things I found on there actually ;). I had my tune done after Sky’s @ Revo HQ in WV so I’m not sure if they incorporated anything learned from his vehicle in to later tunes like mine or not. I’ve been trying to plan a trip to Mason Dixon Dragway for a few passes to see how the tune performs but mother nature has not cooperated. I’ve scheduled to go with a friend who has a '15 w/ a Revo Stg 1 tuned S3 on April 11th so here’s hoping the weather is good.

Skywagon has been very open about his tune and results. I think primetime looked at his data. Skywagon still seemed to have a reduced mph but his car seemed safe in the tune. The revo guys might need to thank Skywagon for putting his car up for revo to fix there issues.

If anyone wants the logs I can e-mail them to you. I’ve done a lot of thinking about my top end speeds. Not sure about anything but my car has about every option one can put on it and I’d wager with me in it it’s total weight may be pushing 4300-4400 lbs? That could be part of my slow trap speeds? Regardless, how much REVO’s “custom” tune helped my car can be seen in one time slip. 11.98, 113.5. From an overweight luxury sedan I’d write that’s not bad? I’m sure REVO learned a lot from my car. They said they would send me logs but never did. Suspect they may be protecting trade secrets?

Because it’s freezing and golf season is starting later and later!

Post on AZ makes it sound like it might have been a result of crash damage that wasn’t caught. “Cracked coolant housing”…

Good to know this wasn’t a 3.0TFSI deficiency, and likely because he’s tracking a salvage car. If my motor blew and I was trolling the junkyard for a new motor, I’d probably look for an RS5 4.2.

Interesting update to this story. That is a big deal changer…
