turns out it was a 6 putt for 9, not 10 (misreported initially)

this only happens at the majors, where they use antiquated, outdated scoring systems (people write the score down and hand it to someone at the end of the hole and then it gets run to the main centre and entered. It goes through a few people’s hands and if there’s an error on the score or the or an error in transposing the score at one of those check points, it doesn’t get caught.

the pga tour uses an electronic instant leaderboard system run by a rules savvy scorer who walk with each group, and their data is instantly reconciled against laser operators who use geo survey equipment on each shot to pinpoint where each shot ends up. Problems are instantly caught by the PGA TOUR shotlink truck, and corrected.

Not a lot of people realise that the majors are NOT pga tour events. They are co-sanctioned and ‘official’ for money etc but they are not PGA TOUR events.

Masters - Augusta National Golf Club owns it and runs it
US Open - USGA owns it and runs it
Open Championship - Royal & Ancient owns it and runs it
PGA Championship - PGA of America (no relation to PGA TOUR) owns it and runs it

I’ve just decided I’m rooting for Sergio this week. It’s funny; I hated him when he was a young punk but that changed and I’ve loved him for a while now.

Phil winning wouldn’t hurt either. 4 green jackets would be something.

Shit I just noticed Jimenez isn’t in the field. I guess theoretically you can play every year just by having a good tournament the year before, but now that he’s lost that qualification I dunno how he’ll ever get back in. But I guess non-champion old geezers tend to not get in the field.

Speaking of champions, it’s striking how polarized the list of winners is. There have been 79 tournaments, so you’d think ok probably 70 or 75 winners. Nope, only 49 individuals have won. Arnold, Jack and Tiger account for 18% of the wins.

Anyone know what ailment Arnie is suffering from? He looked not well on the first tee yesterday. I know he had to limit his involvement at Bay Hill this year as well.

Age I think

I was stunned to see where Day finished up; I last checked in when he was -5 thru 9

Kudos to Ernie for not shooting 90.

To finish off my statement about besting the legendary golfer - had he and I pressed on for 17 more holes together he’d have bested me by 40 or so strokes hahaha

DeCambeau all the way! Crazy if the amateur won this. Very unlikely but rooting for him 100%. Mentioned this b4 but we know him and family since he was about 13. Fiancé worked at his home course and his dad was her boss. Played a few rounds with him and his dad, John. We know his swing coach, too. Pretty fun to see his work put in at a young age pay off from US am champ to success in the Masters.

Seriously crowded leaderboard. Spieth is human I love it, but still has the clutch factor without the attitude!

I’m torn between rooting for Spieth or Langer. Should be an awesome finish tomorrow.

Final round at The Masters - my absolute favorite sporting event to watch on TV!

As usual, many compelling, competing story lines…
