Does anyone other than DJ even have a shot at Tour player of the year? Regardless of what happens in Atlanta, he’s notched a major, a WGC, and now a playoff win. Helluva year. One stat I wasn’t aware of before today: DJ is tied with Rory for second most victories (12) since 2008. Only Tiger has won more with 18. Impressive stuff.
Wow - with all that’s happened in professional golf over the past few days, I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned anything…
-
“The King” passes away - sad, but the impact he had on the game is indelible, and unsurpassed.
-
Rory shoots lights out Sunday and wins the whole shebang, after a couple of small misfires AND some spectacular shotmaking.
-
DJ stumbles Sunday to lose a bunch, but still had a great year.
-
Ryan Moore hangs tough, giving Rory all he could handle, and playing his way onto the Ryder Cup team.
-
Kevin Chappell (who?) just misses notching his first win - again!
-
I’m looking forward to watching the Ryder Cup this weekend. Any bets on which team wins this year?
In other golf news, the winning score at the Rust-Oleum Championship at my home course (275 / -13) was the third-highest winning score of the web.com season, on a par 72 track that played to only 7059 yards.
The champion, Max Homa (who’s now headed back to the PGA Tour after earning his Card by finishing in the Top 25 on the web.com tour this year), also just sent the club an open letter saying how much he and his fellow pros had enjoyed their time here, the reception by the members and the course itself. The Tour is coming back next year, too, and I for one can’t wait.
Anybody in the area (or out) who’d like to attend or volunteer when the time comes, let me know… Volunteers receive a voucher for a complimentary round as a thank you!
Thanks for those two summaries! Been on vacation and missed a bunch of golf, obviously didn’t miss the Kings death, but your cliff notes on everything else are spot on!
So Tiger has more victories…by a longshot…than anyone since his scandal. That’s hilarious.

Brilliant ryder cup. Lots of intense craziness by Rory, Reed, Snedeker, Sergio et al.
The Americans looked a bunch of twonks wearing their baseball hats to the closing ceremonies with their blazers. Dummies.

great story Davis Love told
Monday of Ryder Cup week at Hazeltine, the team was having lunch together and getting ready to head out for a practice round.
Waitress asked Davis Love what he wanted to drink first. “I’ll have an iced tea”
She then asked the next person who said “I’ll have a Diet Coke”
Then she asked Ricky Fowler who said “I’ll have an ARNOLD PALMER!”
Davis changed his, as did the other person to an Arnold Palmer as well
Whole team drank Arnold Palmers together and then drank nothing but Arnold Palmers all week.
That really is a great story. Arnie would have liked that.
Definitely my favorite Ryder Cup since I started following professional golf.
it’s weird I only met him once where we had a conversation, and I waved at him and got a thumbs up a couple of times, but I really was sad and shocked when I read the headline on my google news feed.
Sweet guy.

Had a nice little day yesterday. We flew down to Peachtree (just a little north of Atlanta) and got a round in at Peachtree Golf Club, number 34 on the top 100 list. It was a superb tract and really had a feel as if you were at Augusta, which makes sense since apparently about 50 of their 200 members are Augusta members. Shot 75 with no birdies which was very frustrating as I had plenty of looks. We did play it up though from the members tees as that was the box the other guys wanted to play. Would love to go back and really stretch it out though. Either way, really enjoyed the day and nice to knock off another top 100 course.

So Tiger shoots 76 in his first round back after a 17-month layoff. Discuss…
