Golf Thread

Here in the not-quite-frozen-but-still-too-cold-to-play Midwest, it’s mostly golf WATCHING season at this point. Really enjoy watching the Hawaii/Western swing overall, with the possible exception of the Sony open - Seth Raynor or not, the layout at Wailae just isn’t that interesting to me… That said, 59 is amazing, and even more amazing is 59s in successive weeks!

On a related note, I’m heading to San Diego a week from today with some buddies, and we’re playing Torrey Pines South and Aviara - can’t wait! It’s been several years since I played Torrey (pre-renovation), so it will be fun to see the changes. Aviara is supposed to be a great track as well, and is one I’ve always wanted to play.

Anyone here ever played either place?

So Tiger shoots 76 in his first round back after a 17-month layoff. Discuss…

What a lame showing! Maybe it’s the Taylormade clubs?

^^ I think he’s still playing with some of his Nike clubs.

Tiger shot 72 in the 2nd round, and all three in his group missed the cut…

When you have World number 1 (Jason Day) and World number 3 (Dustin Johnson) in the group with Tiger, who has won 8 (!!!) times at Torrey Pines, you figure that SOMEbody would have made the cut…

Just saw a TW Taylormade commercial, and a “these guys are good” commercial featuring Tiger’s 79 TOUR wins here while watching final round at Torrey Pines.

Will Tigermania be resurrected in 2017!?

I hate basketball at the best of times.

But holy smokes I absolutely fucking despise college basketball.

I’m going to watch a bit more golf this year than I have the last few years. So at 3pm this afternoon I was tuned into CBS, knowing what was in store for me. Ok there’s 3:17 left on the play clock for the college basketball game. You may think that golf will therefore be on at 3:04.

Holy fuck is it ever fucking excruciating watching the last 3:17 of a college basketball game get played. Fouls, timeouts, commercials, general basketball bullshit, over and over again. Today they managed to get two commercial breaks in after the clock was less than 0:59 left. The game ended at 3:18pm. Then followed three minutes of commercials for trucks and fast food. Those are basketball commercials not golf commercials. Golf programming began at 3:22pm.

The tv guide says golf at 3pm. I do not want 22 minutes of utter drivel that I am de-evolved as a being for having watched then golf at 3:22pm. I want golf at 3pm.

Basically it’s always a story. If tiger misses the cut or blows up it’s a story, if he makes the cut or plays decent it’s tiger is making a comeback.

Either way Happy to see him back, hope he doesn’t continue to struggle and if he does he should just hang it up and focus on his rebranded company…

Who are everyones favorite and least favorite golf commentators/analysts? Should be interesting to compare.

I really loved and really miss Peter Oosterhous.

I like:
Feherty
Miller
Kostis
Begay
Pepper

I think I used to like Lunquist but he bugs me a bit now.

Indifferent:

Azinger
Faldo (I like how he showers Mickelson in love though, and I must say I’ve always been shocked with how he dedicated himself to CBS mic duty therefore taking himself out of the Masters field wayyyy before most golf greats with a green jacket do so. Does he not play at all any more or something?)

I kinda dislike:
Koch

Guys I wish would shut the fuck up every time they open their mouth:
Baker Finch
Wadkins
Nobilo

Left out thoughts on McCord?

And Nantz too

McCord is fine, not as original as he thinks he is
Nantz is a primadonna
Maltbie is likable
Jacobson is fairly likable

As long as no fox and joe buck, i could care less. I do enjoy listening to faldo and zinger
