Anyone here try using “golfshot” app? I’ve used for a year or two so far. Pretty nice, GPS yardage etc, but nice things about it is you can move the reference point anywhere around on a Ariel overlay, and even nicer is it does an automatic statistics tracking (GIR, scrambling, driving accuracy left/right, puts per green, avg score per par, etc)
Just thought I’d see if anyone has tried it. It was $20 up front for lifetime which I felt like a lot, but if I had to pay for it every year I would just bc I enjoy having it that much. Anyhow, last two days I’ve played, made four birdies each day but still didn’t post lower than 74, frustrating game this is. We’ll see how the weekend goes.
i used to use Greenfinder on the blackberry. Awesome app. Bought by golflogix (which is a shit app)
I’ve been using skydroid (free and very good however not all courses) and the free golflogix trial (just centre of green)
I need an image of the hole, and the ability to touch the screen and have it give me yardage to that spot. I also need front yardage every time. Greenfinder did that and skydroid does.
Yea it looks like the greenfinder isn’t around anymore, but the skydroid is pretty nice looking for $1.99 (ios cost). I also looked at the golflogix and man, that app does look like crap by the graphics being drawn in rather than ariel overlay. I guess the paid version may have a difference. But it does do the statistic tracking that the GolfShot app does. If you’re ever looking for something different, give it a shot. I think they have a trial version if I recall correctly (or used to).
That swing by swing doesn’t look too bad either, but I like being able to drag and drop to find the distance to a specific location.
A set of Ping i3 irons 4-P, 56° Rac, 60° Rac, Xhot 4hybrid(just learning to hit this) and a TM Burner with custom shaft. I played this weekend and shot 82 which was a great day for me!
Have any of you ever used the Swing app made by SwingGolf?
any of you guys using V1golf? I love it. Load your swing video in and you can frame by frame, slow mo, super slow mo, super duper slo mo, etc. You can draw lines on the screen too so you can see if you’re moving around a bunch.
I set the phone on my golf bag as a makeshift tripod, make a few swings and then look at the clip. When I hit a block I point right so that when reviewing tape I know what the swing produced. Then I look to see why the fuck I blocked it in the swing.
I have never used any of these apps - didn’t even know about them. Will definitely check them out. Sure as hell beats dropping $200 on a Bushnell device.
Holy awesome advertising for V1! I bet their sales skyrocketed after Tiger gave that press conference. It’s true, though, what he’s saying. With the type of technology available today, you really can develop a “perfect swing” if you have the time to work at it. Incredible.
The trend toward only 4-P or 5-P iron sets is a little annoying to me. I really like having long irons in the bag (even played with a 2-iron for several years), and I’m not sold on replacing them with hybrid clubs.
I have replaced my long irons with another wedge and a 5 wood.
I used to rip a 2 iron everywhere but it was because I wasn’t very good with the driver. Now I hit the 3 wood and driver a lot straighter so I use them instead.
I used to go D 3w 2-PW 54 60 putter
Now I go D 3W 5W 4-PW 52 56 60 putter
How often are you standing there saying 'I have 230…hmm…wish I had a 3 iron. For me? Never. I will either smash a 4 iron or hit a 5 wood, but it’s really not that common that I have 230 in to anything where it’s a make-or-break situation.
However I am constantly standing there between 90 and 140 yards to the pin…and I’m glad I have 4 wedges for that.
A typical 400 yard par 4 is a driver or 3 wood and a wedge. A typical 525 yard par 5 is a driver and maybe 3 wood, 5 wood or less if you crush it. It’s rarely make or break to hit the green from 230 though…and even if you do, you’re not likely to hit it close. However if you are better equipped to hit it close from 100 or 110 or 125 you’re going to score.
I played Sunday at my course and I hit 3 fairways. Awful day. Still, here are the yardages I had in to the holes
par 5 - had 210 in, hit 5 iron
par 4 - had 140 in, hit PW
par 3 - had 142, hit 52 (a little down)
par 4 - blocked into trees, pitched out sideways to 140, hit PW
par 5 - had 240 in, hit 5 wood to greenside bunker
par 4 - had 135 in, hit 52
par 3 - had 158, hit 9
par 4 - had 155 in, hit 9
par 4 - smothered a 3 wood into trees, pitched out, had 105, hit 60
par 4 - had 130, hit 52 in
par 4 - had 140, hit PW
par 3 - had 195, hit 7 iron
par 5 - blocked drive to bunker, laid up with 6 iron to 110, hit 56
par 4 - hit driver to 120, hit 56
par 3 - 132, hit 52 (to 4 inches…annoying. Still don’t have a hole-in-one)
par 5 - had 220 in, hit 4 iron greenside
par 4 - had 140 in, hit 52 (a little downwind)
par 5 - had 235 in, hit 5 wood hole high
I never sat there wondering why I don’t carry a 1 or 2 or 3 iron that’s for sure. I sure as fuck hit a lot of wedges into greens (10 times…so I’m glad I had 4 wedges). I birdied 18 to shoot 79. That’s pretty shitty for my handicap level, but the way I’ve been hitting it, I will take it. I hit 5 greens lol.
Something really neat that I learned in the Dave Pelz short game bible was his ‘9 oclock swing’.
Imagine you are looking at someone face to face, then they bend down to hit a shot. If they make a full shoulder turn, their arms will go to about 10:30 on a clock. If they cut it short and take their ARMS (not club) to parallel with the ground, that’s 9 oclock.
For me, and virtually everyone, if you make a full swing you hit it 100% yardage…and if you make a 9 oclock backswing to a full follow through, you will hit it almost EXACTLY 75% of that distance. I went on a golf trip on my own (I won it in a draw, forgot about it, and had to panic book 3 weeks before expiry lol) to Myrtle 14 years ago, and brought the Pelz book to read. I tried this on the range (massive range, empty every day) and was shocked how accurate it was.
Or another way, 140, 125, 115, 105, 102, 95, 85, 75 are covered.
The key is to maintain good rhythm, and get to a full finish.
9 oclock swing to (full finish, 75% of normal distance). Actually he is a bit past 9. That’s the tendency. Make sure to go to 9. Get someone to watch you or film yourself doing what you think is 9. I bet a Coke you’re too far.
yeah its free- i don’t upgrade i just click through/ignore the upgrade suggestions and then you are in. you only need to give it an email if you want to map your own course (really easy i did my home course in about 5 minutes using a laptop and their website google maps thing).
Hey, are you swank perfection on audizine? Someone posted there and the b8 tissue crew accused him of being me. Basically swankperfection said a guy was being unrealistic for his story that a valet said his b8 was the best sounding car he had ever heard, despite ferrari lambos and maseratis being commonplace. Swankperfection said That the valet was just kissing the guys ass and blowing smoke. Then everyone jumped on swankperfection lol.
^^^how is your E60 M5? Any videos? Photos? I still like those a lot. Much omre than the new one. The new one turned into a 7 series with epic power. The E60 is much cooler.
