what if Phil wins the PGA and the Tour championship, and Tiger is T50 in the PGA and 18 at the Tour.
That’s not a totally far fetched scenario. Unlikely but not ridiculous.

Still Tiger
Ya that’s a great point about watching the pros in-person to learn a thing or two. It really is astonishing how solid all of them strike the ball. I would say 97% of their swings make contact with the ball at the sweet spot. That kind of play is so foreign to me. Hell I’m just satisfied if I’m able to make solid contact on a few swings during a round.
Vijay’s swing is incredibly smooth. And the guy is flexible as fuck for his age. He’s like a rubber band lol. I’ve heard that he was always (and perhaps still is) the hardest worker on tour. His practices must be hardcore. So ya he would be an ideal guy to watch at the range.
Nice pics btw. Can you get me a job like that? I could work next year’s Canadian Open. ;D
Edit: woke up at 4:45 this morning to play 18 before work. Get out to the course - instantly starts pouring. Wait in the clubhouse for another two hours, same weather. When I get back to the city - bright sunshine. That is epic fail . . .
It’s actually more than 97% incredibly enough. I have some data from a couple of guys’ trackman sessions on my computer at home. It’s fucking STAGGERING how steady the readings are. In other words how often they middle it.
I have some great Vijay stories. I was his walking scorer in the final round of the 2006 Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf Club. He was very nice, had a great sense of humour. We actually talked a little about the golf swing during the round which blew me away. He was in like 40th so he wasn’t too focused. In fact he came over to me at the 17th hole to ask about his fellow competitors scores…Vijay had forgotten to mark for a few holes. 6 to be exact lol. I’ve never had that happen before or since. I’ve done this since 2001, and have scored for around 80 tour players.
In 2003, Mike Weir was the biggest thing in Canada. He had won the Hope, the Nissan…and of course the Masters all that year. September saw the CDN open at Hamilton Golf Club that year. On Monday, Bell (Bell CDN Open back then) booked my golf club for the day for a pro am of sorts. No spectators though, not even us members. It was Weir, Adam Scott, Charles Howell, Fred Funk and Vijay, playing with a bunch of BCE executives and big clients. ProAm style, pro+4 players.
Anyway, everyone wanted Weir to say the least. One lady was in Vijay’s group, and when she found out, she refused to play with him. She perceived his remarks about Annika as sexist (remember Annika played in the Colonial event on a sponsors invite, but Vijay voiced his opinion that she wasn’t good enough and that exemption should go to a more worthy pro. He wasn’t being sexist. He was being golfist. He was right. She MCd and at the end of the day it was just blown out of proportion.
So, a guy who was in Weir’s group said ‘I will switch with you’ to the lady to alleviate any tension. Fine.
After the round everyone gathered for a lunch in the clubhouse, and the people with Mike Weir’s group said he was a bit of a dick. Disinterested…practice putting while his amateurs were lining up their putts…not interacting much. Basically a primadonna. Funny because nobody knows that about him. I noticed this the next day when I was playing at my club and half the range was roped off. Why? so weir could practice there and not be mobbed by fans . A couple of member’s kids heard and came to see him. Weir slipped out the back of the range to a waiting car and fucked off without acknowledging them or anything.
Anyway, back to the proam day…Vijay’s group were very happy and said he was great.
Only problem? Vijay was missing. Not in the locker room. Not in the banquet room. Nowhere. Everyone started wondering…did he just fuck off an skip the lunch?
Then they noticed that the guy who switched into Vijay’s group was also missing.
Then someone found them. On the range. Vijay was giving the guy a lesson.
LOL I am so glad I created the Golf Thread. That story is fucking classic!! Thing is, it doesn’t surprise me that much. Vijay has always come across as a stand-up guy. I’d play a round with him any day over Weir (who I can totally see having a dick personality). And I only became more of a Vijay fan after he spoke the truth that Annika didn’t deserve that exemption. There’s a reason why men and women play on separate tours - women just aren’t as good. It’s not sexist at all, just a fact. I hate when a sport succumbs to political correctness to appease the liberal critics. It’s like the nonsense two weeks ago about Muirfield being a men-only club. What the fuck does that have to do with the Open Championship? And guess what? There are plenty of women-only clubs in the UK. It’s called the right to voluntarily associate with who you want. Nothing wrong, or sexist, about that.
I’d be interested to see how that guy played in his next round after receiving that pro bono lesson from Vijay.
P.S. Tiger is tearing up Firestone.
as at 3:28pm we’re officially on 59 watch
…and Phil is sucking eggs so it’s good that I didn’t take the $100 bet
ok maybe 58
61 is pretty retarded there. Not sure if anyone has played it but that place is insane. It’s hilly as fuck, a mile long (almost 5 miles actually)and they play it with some rough. It’s hard to believe.
Is this his low round ever as a pro? Must be.
Yep. He’s shot 61 a few times now - never lower. And that’s also the course record. Previously shot by Tiger I believe lol.
Anyone else find Keegan Bradley’s style of play to be annoying? E.g., flipping the club 8 times at address, eyeing up his putts with that weird way he cocks his head and closes one eye, etc. It seems very odd.
What if he shot 61 there 20 times in a row, what would his handicap be, like +15 or something?
I love keagan Bradley and his crazy. He’s fucking weird and interesting.
Check out the head tilts and the hat adjustments and the start stop where he walks forward, then reverses, then goes forward. It’s so nuts. He takes all of 1 second once he gets over it though.
What an impressive win. I just love it when he dominates like that. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen him hit irons this good. I really hope he pulls off the PGA next week.
Me too. I’m not even a tiger fan. In the last 15 years I have liked fred couples, Charles Howell, Phil, and a few other guys. Never really tiger. Never bought Nike shit etc. Just didn’t care. But I love watching him win.
We are privy to watching history take place, as were the people watching jack in the 70s and 80s. Fun to watch and it feels just right when he crushes… But I’m not putting his poster up or buying a red driver.
Sak - you watching the PGA coverage on Golf Channel? Brandell’s attacking Westwood for enlisting Foley lol. This guy must have some kind of vendetta against Foley. Crazy.
Chamblee’s basic argument is that Westwood is too late in his career to make use of Foley’s analytical approach to the game. I think you’d disagree with that ;D
Yeah it’s what I posted above… Where foley had a go at chamblee’s absolutely DOGSHIT record as a tour player.
Watch… Foley will be one of the top 3 teachers in America in golf digest soon.
P. S. Chamblee isn’t going to last. They’re slowly phasing him out at TGC
I certainly don’t disagree with that. There must be a reason why the top names are flocking to him. I think it’s great to have a younger guy out there with a fresh approach to the game coaching the pros.
The top list is just a ‘who do the pros see’ popularity contest.
Hank haney was nowhere on the list. Then he got tiger as a student and was suddenly number 2, behind tigers old coach butch Harmon.
Hot tip: Larry David on Feherty Monday at 9
Wow Pigpen just left his putt for 62 short…and nearly missed from a foot for the 63… I guess that’s the last we need to worry about him winning this weekend.
suppose a club pro were to win… 2 year exemption on TOUR? lifetime to the PGA? What a Francis Ouimet story that would be.
