My buddy had one fall off his Golf R. Smashed the lense. BUT because he was using a go pro suction cup and go pro case they gave him like 60% off a new one. Not free but at least it wasnt a TOTAL loss

return the gopro battery. The aftermarket ones tend to be better
So, it looks like I may be pre-ordering the 3DR Solo drone and buying a GoPro. I’ve been wanting a GoPro for car stuff anyhow, and the 3DR drone just looks so cool and I like the open source/ability to upgrade over the phantom. We’ll see how I like it though, 30 day money back if not.
Anyhow, looking into buying the Hero 4 Silver. Already got a 32GB class 10 micro SD, and got several GoPro accessories in my Amazon Wishlist that I’m interested in.

Yeah the drone thing looks kickass. You could get some real kickass footage at shows and whatnot. There is a drone called the scout i believe and it has a follow me feature and you can program gps coordinates.

Yea, I can imagine it will pass at some point, but I’m excited about the aerial imagery in the meantime and do have some legitimate uses for it with work. I think I’m also going to build a little tri-copter on my own to just get good at flying and for fun.
Yea Eddie, the Solo has Follow me, Orbit, Selfie, and something they made called Cable Cam. The solo is also the first drone to have full gopro integration (can turn on, off, record, power, change settings, etc). It also lets you use different gimbals and cameras which the DJ’s don’t. I’m splitting the cost with a buddy, and then also Gettin a gopro to use for personal sake as well. So it at least a softens the blow lol.

Overall I’m not happy with my GoPro Hero 3 Black. It only captures about half of the track video I intend to take, and then the files are chopped into 2GB segments because it has a crappy 32 bit file system. The battery life is awful, too, and requires a lot of management/power down to last the whole day.

Anyways as long as they are in the shell they are fairly tough assuming you don’t get a direct hit. I have had them come off the track or when I mount the very low on my bumper scrape the pavement and still keep on working.
If you watch this one starting at about the 0:50 mark you will see one of the best camera angels but at the risk of chipping up your camera housing…
Got my GoPro Hero 4 black in today. Found a used one on eNay for $380 shipped so I couldn’t argue with that. Haven’t got to use it yet, but just happy to receive it and have it appear to be in good shape.

I was pretty disappointed with how easily my gopro broke.
. They have this tough body and bulletproof camera case…but the mini USB plug that you use to charge it and plug in an external microphone is a piece of crap that snaps off the motherboard very easily if any torque is placed on it via whatever plug is connected to it.
There are hundreds of people online with the same problem and zero support from gopro. Even if you take it apart and take it to a store that does this stuff (repairs) they won’t do it because it’s a mini nightmare.
So now my gopro can only be charged using an external battery charger like the one mentioned a few posts ago, and my external microphone and the $20 gopro dongle is useless.
Ill try to upload some vids of QDM soon. I mounted the camera right in front of my driver side mirror and i routed my cable through the car and clipped the mic to my licsense plate.
Wow that looks pretty cool. Only thing though is there isnt a manual mode at all? it only focuses on the device correct?
I think it’s just a compelling infomercial for something that is otherwise kind of useless unless you like making video of yourself.
Really the only difference between it and the normal quadcopters is that it can be thrown in the air to start. Not that big of a deal.
if I were in the market, I would
a) buy a used Phantom
or
b) wait for the GOPRO quadcopter (which they are making)
