G's Audi S6 Build

It’s a slight edge over OEM, I think it came out 28 lbs lighter for the set, but definitely no carbon fiber rims! LOL. And it should get rid of that gap once the H&R coilovers are purchased.

Yeah if you coil over the car I think that would be the crown on the entire project. Looks so good.

Very nice, looking forward to seeing the picks when it all done.
What Wheel and tire specs are you running?

19x8.5 and 245/35/19

Ordered some proper hub centric rings from ECS and the ride is smooth again!

Next things to address is an inconsistent flashing CEL and minor misfires occurring randomly. At this point it could be either bad coilpacks or the battery as I’ve replaced everything else, and to be fair those items are due anyway. I’m also going to start aggressively doing preventative maintenance on suspension components. I’ve had a creaking noise in the rear, which I’m suspecting are bad bushings on the rear control arms (fronts were replaced ~12000 miles ago). Here’s a list that I’m thinking to get around to this summer/fall:

  • H&R coilovers (struts)
  • Rear control arms
  • Tie rods
  • CV axle on left side if absolutely necessary

The rear control arms are pretty damn expensive, and I’m having trouble finding Meyle HD for them. Is it more cost effective to have the bushings replaced or the whole control arm? One of them is $560 for each side!

Here’s the kit I got back in April 2017

https://www.europaparts.com/control-arm-kit-a6-s6-c6-12-piece-meyle.html

Currently $649.95

Does that include rear too? I noticed that the part numbers don’t match, but that may just be a formality??

Not sure. You can contact them to ask though. They should be able to tell you.

I installed that same kit on mine a couple of years ago.

It is just for the front.

Suspension components were fine… it was the plating on the JHM exhaust making the noise, so the shop added a little more room!

Summer updates:

Plenty of parts sitting around the house as I wait for everything to come together. Here’s a quick list of everything that’s waiting to be installed:

  • RS Flat Bottom Steering wheel
  • RS6 diffuser + RS ovals *Looking into sourcing new RS ovals from JHM
  • RS6 Headlights
  • Carbon fiber paddle shifters, vinyl for steering wheel air bag *May or may not keep the vinyl

To come will be:

  • Bilstein Coilovers *Looking at buying/installing these in August
  • RS6 Red Calipers w/ LW rotors
  • RS6 Bumper (and components) *Trying to source one… deadline hopefully sometime in July-October
  • Maxton-Design RS6 spoiler, side skirts and rear side skirts

I’m also looking into some OEM Carbon Optic package components too as SIX’s car looks absolutely stunning. Focusing more on the inside than outside for now until I figure out what I want to do there.

RS6 door handles, black piano dash, CF paddle shifters and JHM RS oval tips just came in! Wish Poland would ship that last RS6 headlight, so I could add them to this picture!

Update:

Just got done installing all 4 RS6 inner handles and I think it looks great! Here’s a look at the driver and passenger’s side:

EDIT:

And today I installed the RS steering wheel after work.

Man, talk about kicking you when you’re down! My shop noticed a coolant leak, and come to find that the water pump is bad. Replace the pump and thermostat assembly, and then find a bad oil cooler. And of course when doing their 360 inspection find cracked bushings on the front lower control arms. Oh and I’m getting the coilovers installed still (with all new strut mounts). BLEEDING money! Lol

WOW that really turned out nice. I’m always a sucker for that flat bottom steering wheel.

Alright, so guess what I found at the neighborhood garage sale… ok maybe I’m lying, but it’s here none the less!

I think it makes my S6 in the background look like a guppy, lol. Can’t wait to put new lens on the RS6 headlights and install them both together. Real carbon fiber rings and blacked out badges to come! (No, I’m not keeping the RS6 badge).

But here’s the shit news: noticed a CEL pop up out of nowhere this evening driving around the town. The reason I worry is because preventative maintenance is all I’ve ever known with this car. Most things have already been replaced within the last year. Spark plugs, coils, injectors, oil separators, carbon cleaned, SAI delete + tune, belts replaced, gaskets, possibly the whole coolant system minus the radiator.

This means there’s only a select few potential issues: spark plugs (I went 1 degree cooler, but drive like a mad man so unlikely the issue), battery, O2 sensors? I’m not sure what else it could be. The car is still driving in great shape, engine at idle is smooth, and no abnormal behavior from what I can tell. Gonna have my shop run the codes tomorrow and see what’s causing the madness.

If it’s and O2, I hope it’s one of the accessible ones. The thought of dropping the engine for an O2 terrifies me because I figure I may as well do more PM while there and that’s $$$ :-\

Love the work you’ve done! More info on the carbon fiber paddles please?

Exactly. I’m terrified to go in and have that come up. Not in the position to shell out over $2K on labor then potentially $1-2K on replacing and relocating those sensors. IF it is the sensors, then man I’d love to have those headers go in. Wishful thinking! Hopefully it’s something else and I can kick that can down the road.

Thanks! I got the paddles from eBay, and they should be a direct fitment for your paddle (even the OEM). My one concern is I’m using a TTRS paddle from 2012-2014 and Audi changed the paddles to a black design where they’re actually curved. This curvature doesn’t allow my particular paddles to stick 100%. Will have to do some R&D to make it work. I like them a lot though!

OK, shop says the fuel mixture is running lean. One thing I forgot is the HPFP could be bad, which I’m thinking is more likely than o2 sensors. Let’s hope so!

EDIT: It was just a leak! All praise to the car gods for sparing me today! LOL
