GT 28R Vs. Tail 770 Vs. JHM S5

people are in general terrified to race from a launch no matter what car.

Ask Sexican what he’s going to run at the dragstrip in his 600 crank hp 550 crank torque B5 S4 that weighs 3600 lbs. The real answer, with those numbers and a good looking curve, should be 11.3 @ 127 or so. But he’ll tell you that his goal is to get into the 12s because he’s so bad at driving.

Lots of people have this weird fear of launching the car. Not because the car might bust…but because the driver might be a bust.

I love racing and never turn it down. I don’t care if I’m going to get whipped. As I mentioned above, I was quick to race that FT/pump+meth/full exhaust/ER SMIC B5 S4 when I had my B7. I knew I was supposed to get rocked (my B7 ran 12.9 @ 107) but you never know. Took him a few runs to get it right. First he forgot ESP…then he started in a bad RPM. If we raced 1 time for $50 I’d have won by about 10 car lengths.

I love when there are stage III B5 S4s at the strip. It’s usually a total crapshoot what they’ll run. I’ve seen them run anywhere from Notorious’ 11.9 @ 116 to a silver car that ran 13.1 @ 109 about 5 times. All cars are similar…last time we were there a C63 couldn’t get out of the low-mid 13s @ 110 or so and an M3 (new V8 cab) was running the same. An S5 ran 14.5-15.0 @ 99 all day. it’s so funny how people freak out and fuck up.

Here’s me vs the C63

sub 3 seconds to 60 mph on K04? That sounds like it would be tough to do. You should pbox that some time. Would be cool to see

Where are you located?

I’d be happy with anything under 13.5 as long as I don’t break anything!

Use me as your example all you want, it doesn’t bother me any and from a roll i will race anyone even if I know I’m going to lose (raced a E55 that has like 600wheel/700tq). I’m just more cautious to not break my car.

What’s your opinion on launching in 2nd with these cars? I’m half tempted to try it if/when I ever go to the track, more out of not having to shift than for gearing (my shifter may be impossibly misaligned).

I have a few lsx/bbc buddys who leave the line in second, works well for them… I was tempted to try it in my A6 but I need to see how it does at the strip in 1st, the 01e 1st gear is so short.

It sounds hilarious…but I’ve heard of guys doing it to. Big torque big displacement cars though. Not sure how it would work out on a 2.7T that is making not a ton of power or torque down below 2500 rpm.

What’s the technique anyway?

Not sure, I’ve never done it. I just know that I can build a bunch of boost off of the line and that my 1-2 shift takes like a second and a half with my shifter/linkage, and hence am curious if people do/have done it.

I have launched in 2nd in my S4, I had to up the launch control setting to 5.5K from 4K.

I am not sure if it’s any faster, it doesn’t really feel like it.

They closed our track at the end of last year, so I will have to wait till mid-summer when I visit Edmonton or Medicine Hat track to find out if it works well for the 1/4

Go on that Alberta euros site and see if anyone can lend you a pbox or gtech pro…then you can check for yourself.

It would be a little much to put my car back to ko4s for that…

I have ecux logs from 2005-2006 demonstrating it, there were more than a few guys doing it on the strip and street with the right clutch setups. My car hot out of the hole hardest on ko4s.

Done it a lot, really hard on the clutch. I find I am faster to use first and ride the limiter for a second before banging to 2nd.

I should just buy a vbox, I will be running a lot of 60-130 times to show you all how powerful my car is in the near future, also I wonder if it will work on the dyno

pbox is a fun tool. About $450 or so. I have owned one for 2 years and could likely sell it for exactly what I paid for it (bought a used one).

Ill get a update on the B5 parts lists as per requested. I need to log into my work E mail to get there e mail addresses.

I mean this out of no disrespect but whats up with the Tial guys… Here is my example. After the race we all agreed to meet on Friday to get the video. (we gave the owner of the camera; the tial guy our thumb drives to load the video onto) The owner of the tial car said he wanted to hold on to the video till they ran again??? seriously??

The owner of the Tial car said his shop that installed the turbos and put the tune on there said there MUST be something wrong with the car.

Is it possible that the tuners or shops have put him up to this? Im asking this in a serious fashion. After they ran the Tial guy wasn’t upset he said thats what he thought was going to happen. We all said. “hey if your happy with the car then great” The GT kit costs more then the Tials and there bigger better turbos what would you expect to see.

When I asked him for the video of me and him racing he now says he missed second and that’s what took him so long to catch me.

so no video?

who is the tial owner?

Seriously, I purposely try to troll you into 1/4mi vs 60-130 argument and you don’t even miss a beat.

I will be getting a vbox this year, but mainly for use with my project car, my stage3 S4 is quite predictable, and rarely surprise me one way or another

lol I missed the dyno part hahahaha

Not me, cause I would have posted that video like weeks ago!!!

Plus I don’t have 770’s

sure sure. You also said weeks ago that you were going to go to the strip. Are you just waiting for it to get nice and hot so you can run nice and heatsoaked after waiting in staging lanes all night? Get out there one weekend early for a test and tune.

On the topic of launching from 2nd, it’s kind of funny but the Z06 or ZR1 (or both?) has a first gear that makes it past 60 mph. I guess this helps their 0-60 mph times a little by avoiding a shift, but it’s interesting to think that their 1st gear runs out to the speeds a B5 S4 runs to near the top of 2nd. Kind of like launching in 2nd, but not really. I just thought it was interesting.

the big 1st gear also helps keep thrust in check, if it was as short as the 01e 1st the torque at the tire face would be massive and the tires would not be doing much gripping.
