Header Theory: Confirmed.

So when I saw not_armed was parting out his car I emailed him and were able to work out a great price on me buying his Milltek and Headers… I went ahead and sold my AWE Catback and 034 HFC’s and made the switch…

In the past 3 years there has been almost no data on these headers and so many claims that they make more power, however nothing to back it up besides one bad 1/4 mile time by Eurocode.

I went out a few weeks ago and gathered some data with the AWE/HFC combo and now today Milltek/EC Headers Combo.

Not only did the headers not do anything but they actually made my car slower.

Here are the before numbers.

DA: -494
Temp: 58 degrees

0-60: 4.05s
0-100: 9.62s
60-130: 11.9
1/4 mile: 12.46@114.19

DA: -1444
Temp: 48 degrees

0-60: 4.16s
0-100: 9.81s
60-130: 12.28s
1/4 mile: 12.64@115.92

We learned a valuable lesson today, ladies and gentlemen.

Headers make your car slower even in better DA.

Just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke we did a few other 60-130 runs in my car.

Those were 12.27, 12.20, 12.04, 12.28.

My dads car went:

0-60: 3.99s
0-100: 9.16s
60-130: 11.65s
1/4 mile: 12.38@116.91

Nice improvements from his last time that was the same night I ran in my before run.

He’s on stock cats and we we’re practically dead even last time. Now he pulls on me.

More like

MYTH BUSTED

That being said, do you think you and GIAC can come up with a tune to somehow make better use of them.?

I just think there has to be a way…

Fuck.

I mean I’ll send Austin an email and see what he can do but I doubt it. They probably won’t make me a one off file since 99% of their customers aren’t running headers.

Stock cats ftw.

Nice work as always. After speaking with Austin yesterday, I am tempted to try the 100 file with some e85/93 mix.

Auditude, who did your install?

Trying to find a good shop in the southeast but may need to head up the coast somewhat.

Wow that’s pretty compelling information

You should change the title though…EC already have a hit man looking for me and I am not the only one to float this theory.

So where are you going from here?

? ;D

Pete, First off nice work as always, but I told you so… lol Also, there is a thread on this already, see below… Finally, I guess the drag passes Imola and I made on the same day, same time, very similar mods didn’t mean anything?

Think this just adds to it, doesn’t take anything away. Now we also have same car, same driver results.

Totally agree and understood… I just think Pete should have been a little more clear in his comments when he said there was no data besides EC’s one bad quarter mile time… Heck EC actually made many passes that day, they just choose to post the one with the highest trap speed to give the impression that these things actually work so they could sell them, IE Marketing 101… The other ET’s were actually pretty good of course it took their “hired” driver to run those times… lol

[quote=“primetime,post:13,topic:4865”]

Gotcha.

Wonder if there is any saving these things, through tuning or a bigger SC…probably not.

[quote=“Blackhawk878,post:14,topic:4865”]
Tuning = no… bigger blower = TBD, but my guess would be probably…

Also, just so I’m clear I wasn’t knocking Pete, I really appreciate everything he does/has done for the platform but anyone who reads this thread needs to know it wasn’t the only “testing” done so I figured I needed to mention the other thread and the “testing” Imola and I did… Lots of newbs coming over here and the more clear the information is the less dumb questions get asked… Also, there will be some additional header “testing” done this Sat. Fucking can’t wait as it’s been a month since I have drag raced! LOL

Yeah, good point primetime. People always forget your day with ImolaS4. To me that was the final nail in the coffin. The first dozen or so nails were when EuroCode kept dodging the dragstrip…and then lied about not being able to go when their superstar test driver admitted they went and ran 13s all day.

Testing like this high speed data from Pete just confirms it in more situations that people would try to use to squirm out of reality. i.e. saying ‘but the quarter mile doesn’t measure top end very well’. Well here they go…12 seconds of top end shows they don’t do anything.

Bottom line? The stock cats on the B8 S4 are just fine. To me that’s the biggest thing. With the blower forcing everything through, efficiency on the exhaust side isn’t an issue for these cars yet, so the beits of doing ANYTHING to the exhaust are almost non-existant. Other than fattening the tuners’ pocket books that is.

The formula for acceleration success seems to be

a) good tune
b) smaller SC pulley
c) good open intake
d) LW rotating parts
e) cooling upgrade

I’ve tried it once without much success but apparently they’re having different results. Maybe my 93 has to much ethanol or something?

Elite Motorsports, talk to Kai he’s awesome.

Love the sound and still want to test them at the strip, but as of now not only do I think they do nothing but they lost power as well.

Pete, You going to post this on vendorzine? I think you should as the forum members over there need to see this… Plus it should make for good reading… lol
