Headlights

Hello,

I went to go replace the headlights and I ordered a new set from ECS Tuning. But the ones I got were incorrect. I’m reaching out here to figure out what I did incorrectly.

Obviously, my car has been converted to a B7 so when ECS tuning asks for a Vin number, its all over from there. So I’m reaching out here.

The ballast pin is incorrect. Here’s a pic. The Top one is the one from my car and the bottom one is the pin coming out the headlight I ordered.

Here’s a pic of them side by side. You can see why I want to replace them. Lol

You can see they’re the same housing, just the ballast pin is incorrect.

Can someone tell me which ones I need to buy that would be correct?

Why not just replace lenses, probably most cost effective way after refinishing existing lenses.

Could it be AFS vs non AFS? Maybe he just replaced connector to make it work… Just throwin ideas out there…

Both headlight tabs are broken.

On ECS’s website it shows the same ballast for both AFS and non AFS.

Interesting. I was going to say the same thing Wrong did. To a T. Actually ill be wetsanding mine to refinish the fronts but as you said, you broke 2 tabs. Im not sure why there would be different part numbers. AFS was the only logic in my mind but you said you ruled that out.

I don’t know about the b7 but on the b6 headlights you can replace the tabs. Worked well for me

Maybe its just the angle of the pic, but it looks like you ordered a single xenon headlamp when you should have gotten bi-xenon. Could have possibly ordered an A4 headlamp? Idk if any of the S4 lights came with the chrome trim like that new one has…

I actually just did the exact same thing. Ordered a headlight and the ballast doesn’t fit so I’m interested to see what I did wrong as well. Unfortunately I can’t send mine back because before I tried to install it I went ahead and pulled it apart to clear the corner and paint the chrome piece black.

Are the Bi-xenon AFS? Or do they make a set of Bi-xenon without AFS?

To be more specific. Here’s a pic of what I ordered from ECS.

I ordered the first one underneath the European Spec Set. Euro Xenon with AFS.

My question is the one below that says with AFS, but it’s underneath the Xenon column.

But the OEM US spec set above that is underneath the Bi-Xenon column and it’s AFS as well.

I called ECS but they couldn’t help unfortunately.

Any ideas? Obviously, I can just exchange the ones I have for another set but ECS doesn’t pay for the shipping on the returns, so I’d like to try and get it right.

Thanks

I can’t edit my post yet. But it’s supposed to say WithOUT AFS.

Ok, so I have verified that my headlights are xenon with curve lighting. Is curve lighting AFS? I only ask, cause a few websites I’ve been to refer to their headlights as AFS but then define that as automatic leveling.

So are automatic leveling and curve on the same headlight? Or is Curve a separate option from automatic leveling?

Yes AFS is curve lighting and you are right some websites call it AFS or curve lighting.

Yes the auto leveling and curve lighting on on the same headlight which almost all B7 S4s have as a standard option.

so why is there 2 different ballasts? what is the difference in the headlights.

Any luck with connectors issue?

Yeah, after a ton of searching I found that it’s just the difference between having curve lighting or not.

I called ECS and asked them that specific question and even sent them pictures but they couldn’t figure it out for some reason. Hence the need for me to search for what turned out to be a pretty easy answer and solution.

I have curve lighting and I accidentally ordered a set of headlights without it.

I had a feeling it was AFS vs non-AFS. I wonder if ECS would work with you on returning these headlights and crediting you towards AFS ones. Anyways glad you got it sorted out. Good thread with visuals if somebody else runs into same issue.
