Hit 200 Launches - Launch Control Non Functional

I must say, these cars are proving to be rather bullet proof. I just found out(at the track unfortunately) my car has hit it’s 200 max launches.

My transmission has been bullet proof to this day. I realy think the 2012’s had a lot of issues sorted out. Anyway, going to see if I can have GIAC reset this, and keep torture testing parts out. Extremely impressed with this car.

Damn wish I had that problem with my 6MT.

Does GIAC have the ability to clear the counter?

weird, I thought GIAC would have programmed that into the DSG tune/ECU tune.

Have you tried clearing the ECU data. Try clearing the ecu and tcu code data. That means just hit clear codes even if there are no codes. Of that doesn’t work try clearing codes and then disconnecting the battery and draining the system.

How many launches do you think will actually cause a transmission failure? 400? 300?

Did all of this, no luck.

Jeff, have you tried to do a capacative discharge? Meaning, disconnect both terminals of the battery and touch them together for at least 10 secs. This sometimes works wonders, got me out of many a tech line calls with Audi, VW and BMW (while working at dealership) wish are usually worthless and just kill time…

Just a thought. Hope you get it reset and continue deeper in the 11s

Well phooie on that. Does giac have switching function.

Audi limits the number of launches you can do on the car? Makes some sense, as who would want to warranty a transmission that is launched on 10 times a day throughout 3 years. But odd for an OEM to impose a limitation on a feature.

One of the recent gtr years did this on the car.

Yah did this to.

No luck :frowning:

I knew a guy with an e46 m3 smg and he said his launch control was limited to 10 or 15 times. He could have been full of shit though.

I thought I read somewhere the dealer can reset the counter for you. Someone posted a work sheet, different web site, so indicating same?

That was probably until it broke ;D Haha…I’ve been looking around for an e46 M3 and the SMG ones routinely go for about 15-25% less than their 6MT counterparts. Maybe great for the track (not launching) but not good for street driving.

Haha seriously. His had the transmission completely replaced, not just the $5k water pump or whatever lol, and by the time he had 10,000 miles on it I swear the transmission was already going. It sounded almost like the clutch was slipping or something weird towards the top of gears and his excuse was the tires were slipping. Either way he sold it like a month after I told him that.

But I also did some quick googling after I posted that last night and I found a site that said the U.S. spec cars aren’t, but the Euro cars are limited to 10. However, it can be reset by the dealer, it just won’t be warrantied after 10.

My friend had his reset by the dealer after he hit 200, i just don’t remember if it they were able to do it with their computer or if they had to replace the mech unit. I remember him saying something about the mech having to be replaced. giac couldnt reset it.

Well that seriously sux. I guess you can try to talk to an Audi tech at the dealer and see if they can do it on the side somehow?

Best of luck.

I would doubt it highly that the mech needs replacing.

it’s a computer controlled thing, that counter. Thus you can fool it if you can tune it.

I would ask Count Vohn for his opinion. Although I would be prepared for him to not tell you (as this is something he can likely do, but others can’t).

Damn, I just installed the GIAC TCU tune thinking that one of the side benefits is overwriting the 200 LC limit. While my choice was driven by other factors such as an increase in rpm and increase in torque limit, I liked the idea of unlimited launches. Shame on me for not paying attention. LC will be used more judiciously now.

Subscribed and hope there is a solution found.
