How many parts can I break? - an rs4 build thread by komseh

komseh, Nice choice of wheels. I like Volks on a RS4 and I would go with the first set of Forgestar wheels that you posted a picture. The airbox mod is cool.

Yeah I like the CF5(first pic) because it will show off the calipers more. Can’t go wrong with the classic 5 spoke.

I’m thinking of going with 19x9.5 and a 275/30 tire. I would probably push the offset to +24 in that configuration. Thoughts? I was looking at doing a 19x10 w/ 285/30 and +29 offset, but that pushes the wheel 12.7mm in both directions compared to stock. It will fit if I make it, but that just seems silly for a street setup.

I had the same problem with my apikol rear diff mount. Turned to mush… I’m running the ECS mount now so hopefully that holds up a bit longer.

I really wish those would’ve been available back when I bought my ADVs…they look freaking identical! It would keep me from throwing up every time I look at replacement cost.

285s are nice, and they don’t rub, but you’re right, it’s overkill on the street. You’re making exactly the right decision.

Justin, I think you were dead on about the heat on the blue bushings. I had little bits of blue melted rubber on top of the exhaust pipe under the mount.

Replacing the bushings was easy. Press bushings from each side then press aluminum bushing through. I greased the surfaces with CV-2 just to keep things moist. ;D

If the red one fails in the same way I’ll just have a full aluminum mount made.

Fixed that for you.

Yeah, Saki is right about the name of this thread. Glad that it was an easy replacement for the bushing.

I would like to try an all aluminum or Delrin rear diff mount. I can feel a little give in the rear of the car when I launched my car on the street recently before it went off for some other work at a different shop.

Haha sorry, I forgot who and where I was conversing with about the mount.

I was thinking about the solid mount last night while I was under the car. The metal tabs coming off the chassis that the mount bolts into don’t seem very robust. Do you think they would be able to handle the additional load a solid mount would place on them?

Only one way to find out.

Komseh,

I’m assuming that you are not using the Volks on the street so that you can have a track tire ready to bolt on. Is that correct? I would think that the Volks would make a really good street wheel.

Yeah that’s correct, dedicated track wheels for the Volks. They would absolutely make a great street wheel. The only problem is they’re bright red.

I forgot to post this breakage that happened in December. I took the car to a local shop for a tire rebalance, they ended up cross threading/galling every single stud & nut on the car. The studs with the nuts still on them came right out of the hub they were bound so hard. Good stuff.

That sucks. I would be so pissed

Got any pics of the car with the volks on. I went through the whole thread. Don’t think I missed it.

The TE37SL will finally have tires mounted next week. The ZE40s are looking pretty excellent. I’ll have some good pictures of everything up after I finish the suspension work. I received my KW Clubsports today and I have new 034 front suspension components on the way. Unfortunately I won’t have a free weekend to do the work until early April.

Great. I am excited to see them on the car as well and the other changes you add

It’s going down this weekend.

That’s quite an overhaul. It’s going to be a fun weekend ;D
V3s or Clubsports?

Clubsports!

Last night I got the front brakes off and sprayed everything down with penetrating fluid. The only surprise so far is one of the retainer screws was torqued way too much, but it was really easy to drill out.

The pinch bolts took 4 doses of ATF/Acetone mix in the last 2 weeks so I’m crossing my fingers they will come out without too much of a fight.

MMM yeah lots of fun. Ended up having to replace a front axle. Then one of the metal sleeves in the spindle for a lower control arm came out with the control arm. Unfortunately I didn’t realize it until I went to attach the control arm. I had to cut the ball joint out of the old control arm so I could get a socket over the sleeve and whack it out. Tapped it back into the spindle with red threadlocker all over it.

All done, just gotta go get her aligned.

Nice! Gonna handle real well at QDM!!!
