props to him for trying! I hope he doesn’t blow his shit up…
Jeff is actually a good guy and trying to push the platform so I give him props… I just don’t think it will work but I could be wrong… He and I have traded a few emails and he used my puller for his pulley install… Like Bear said props for trying… He won’t blow his motor as he has the right mindset from a testing standpoint IMO…
Oh and he runs up in Canada at St thomas dragway… Shame it’s only about 1 hour from me… If I could drive across the lake! LOL
Julio makes an awesome alcohol kit. Curious to see the outcome…
Yes no doubt props for trying but in my opinion, trying to tune your car is not trying. It is gambling. Has there EVER been a successful… Aka fast… Self tuned audi s4/rs4???
Half the actual tuners out there haven’t a Fucking clue what they’re doing, let alone a guy in his basement trying to decipher motronic or these Siemens ecus. Add meth to the mix… Will he know where to go to program safety if his meth fails/runs out? Remember it took Apr and giac a loooong time to make the cars fast. Never mind the security… I’m just talking about getting to where they are today no able to go fast. Giac still can’t tune the dsg cars when they have a pulley.
This is not something you earn props or trying. This is for professionals.
Anyway I can’t wait to see what happens. Predictions?
I don’t think he will blow his car up. You don’t tune your car with the goal being to not blow it up. You tune it to go fast. I reckon he will struggle like fuck… Or will have to steal someone’s code from n e f and build meth on top of it. Sorry…reverse engineer. lol
Saki, I wouldn’t say what he is trying to do is “tune his car”, his plan is to use a higher octane “canned” tune from GIAC that calls for 104 fuel while running 91-93 and w/m… Honestly, that is very feasible and has proven to work on many other cars… I don’t think it will work on our cars though, as he has planned anyway, but that is pretty much an opinion at this point… Other than Voltron who has tried? Again, props to him for trying…
As for a prediction… Low 12’s probably 12.1 - 12.3 at 115-117… DA will be a big factor and I doubt it’s stellar anytime soon…
I also give props to people who try things within reason…
#1- I don’t get the guys chase for a record on 93+alky when he hasn’t done anything significant otherwise. What is his best time? is it really a 12.99 in horrible DA? Why wouldn’t he try to go during more favorable conditions, take the car as far as he can on pump…then move to the setup he is discussing.
#2- It seems pretty dangerous in my mind to rely on your “canned” tune to straighten everything out when you start injecting alcohol. Even if it is running a higher octane program your really putting a lot of trust into the guys that wrote the program and its safeties. Like Saki mentioned, there are plenty of people out there who do this shit for a living, yet they have no fucking clue what they are doing.
What is his true goal? is he just too cheap to run race gas…because 93+alky still isn’t 93, why not just run race gas? His goal is to say, “I’m the fastest B8 S4 on 93oct+alky” because he is far from any other records, especially with guys like prime around. Sorry, but it doesn’t make any sense to me.
My prediction is…

maybe I misunderstood his post but it sounded like he was self tuning in some way.
93+meth does not equal race. That will not go well.
Now it’s getting even more interesting lol.
and yes Euroswagr, he went 12.99 with a $6,000 modlist. 12.99 @ 105 I think. In other words, slower than stock.
I agree 93+ meth does not equal race gas… However, the ecu has enough tolerance range IMO to compensate… I don’t think he will set a record but he won’t blow the motor and will run decent… How much gain from the injection? No clue w/o logs, times, etc. and even then not sure will be able to tell… Now if he goes 11.5 or something, that would be different but again I don’t see that happening as is tune wise and spray setup…
In his defense for his current times the mods didn’t include a tune, which we all know is critical, however his times as you pointed out even for stock are horrible… I think you know how I feel about the headers though so let’s not go there… lol Will be fun to watch at least…
I’m not sure how he’s planning on fixing the AFR. I asked him in his thread, so we’ll see. He’s not going to get much out of injection meth on top of all the fueling in a boxed tune.
I had to pull between 20-30% of my injector fueling when tuning with 100% meth.
93+meth is actually BETTER than 100 octane. You get increased octane, charge cooling and simply amazing knock resistance. When tuning on meth, I couldn’t get my car to knock no matter how much I advanced the timing. It started losing power eventually, but produced ZERO knock.
Given they now admit to tuning for e85, they are probably making a meth specific tune as well… Glad they are pushing the platform, apr needs to step up with a dsg tune soon… So I bet that is what they ran when 1fast went 11.8. I won’t trust GIAC times unless they are from a true customer ie not Austin or 1fast… Loved how they questioned the validity of my 93 time when I ran them… Pot kettle… Shady…
x10
they cant just add meth to the acr via a water meth system it will cause issues with the fuel mixture…this isn’t a 13year old b5
…thinking about this again…AFR trims may indeed pull fuel based on seeing extra fuel at the O2 sensors… Normally I’d say add enough 50% meth to see 0.5 or more AFR richer, before pulling any fuel. But since the ECU will pull fuel anyway, you never know…theoretically you should make more power since instead of running 11.5:1 you’ll be running 12:1 with fuel and 0.5 with meth.
Boost control is pretty useless with the roots blower, since 17 psig at 3000 is less than half the flow of 17 psig at 7000 rpm.
All this was discussed before in a thread a few months ago…
I worry about the coating. Believe me roots blowers will not work as well once the coating is compromised, the sealing will be lost. At my work we deal with a lot of coated equipment, vacuum and blowers, i know about most of those coatings. We can inject liquid for cleanings here, but we turn the blower speeds wayyyy down to do it. Or simply turn them by hand. I also think the lotus guys had horrible results with lost coating when they injected pre-blower.
Re-coating is not too expensive, though, on other blowers.
Prime, how about those intake spacer plates your bro was going to make…???

I’ll let the excuses fly… Just not motivated to take the blower off and do it now… Once I have a reason to take the blower off we will do it and hopefully make 1 for both blowers or 2 if required by the 1740… I have had the RS for 3-4 months now and it has 2 passes and 650 miles… Was heavily involved in a work project and the weather has been crappy… I have become an expert at Thomas the Train, IE enjoying time with my son… I have the most bitching track setup for Thomas, I can take photos! LOL
How have you been? Please tell me you aren’t smoking?
I see your work is expanding up here, they aren’t kidding by the slogan hahaha. Looks like frickin apple stock before 2013.
I’m not smoking still, we had over 30 people up north and a big party at the cottage (think you can see those pics on FB)…I had a few drags from someone’s vaporizer (wow those things have improved) and about half a cigar. No desire to smoke the next day, fortunately.
I have 300,000 km on this M5 and it’s going into the ground by my birthday, since SAI ports are choked and thus I can’t get it to pass emissions. So it’s finally time to get my wife the Q7 or X5M, and get my S4 back this fall.
^^what happened to the cayenne?
More importantly, does this mean you get the S4 back?
J, I’m happy for you and yeah I saw some of those pics… Glad you are getting the S4 back… Yeah we got denied on a 2.34B acquisition and had to roll a bunch of people back to their old jobs… Fucking Mexicans! LOL
Talking with Jeff(guy who this post is about)… We are going to try and meet at Norwalk or a track in MI… That will make for some good forum talk…
Bear, cayenne turbo is dads, I’ve never had an SUV but my wife wants a big dog, so this would factor in the decision. Dogs go in the back only, I’ve had a Great Dane in my car many times and it not fun.
If I get the S4 back as my DD I will take it to stage III or whatever is available.
I drove the Tesla S performance, if there was a game changer car, this is it. I don’t have the coin for 2 cars right now, though…but no way I’d be getting an M5, S6, or whatever without serious consideration for this car. I’m not an electric car fan by any stretch, either, i was completely surprised. The torque from a dig is retarded.
Interesting… I don’t know if I could do electric as I’d probably miss the exhaust/engine note too much.
