And finally, I got my hands on a dirt cheap, blown DRC, failing torque converter, rebuilt title RS6 (with bonus RS badges mounted above the side blinkers SCORE!)
It is far from perfect shape, but it fit my budget and will be a nice little project. Plan is to move the 6speed and coilovers from the A6 over to the RS6. I know it sounds like you heard this before, but this time it is really going to happen
Avus with black interior is definitely my favorite factory colour combo for RS6.
I am totally with you on the Ti package. The upper grill on my A6 makes the car look so much better with the black trim. I am surprised they didnt black out the trim on the outside, as the inside has the door handles and cluster rings blacked out from the factory.
The car seems mostly stock, except for all weather mats and the extra RS badges LOL. So, not a lot too show. There were just a few little things that set it off from the regular A6 (well, aside from the drivetrain stuff)
Does it drive, or is the trans destroyed? Idles ok?
Where on earth did you find this? Good deal? PM me if you want.
I think it’s a pretty awesome car. the 4.2T is pretty special. Look at the success the modern 4.0T cars are having.
p.s. use dental floss to ditch those RS badges. Funny, there’s a B8 S4 around here who has some random extra S badges on each side kinda like that, although these ones are real low.
It runs and was being used as a daily driver. He drove it here on the highway from an hour away. It bounces around like a boat, because the DRC is completely shot.
Idles great, although I haven’t pulled the codes yet. With only 77K, I would guess it is still on the original turbos. Apparently, has a Unitronics tune.
That’s pretty awesome even if you just part it out.
I guess with coilovers, a transmission and whatever else to do the timing belt it could get expensive. Still, you’ll be in an RS6 for $15,000 or thereabouts.
I actually have everything I need on the A6 to fix the RS6 (well, all the pricey stuff anyway)
All 6spd swap parts will be moved over. I have an FX400 clutch, which is good for 675lb/ft. A perfect match
Researched and found that there is no reason why the H&R coilovers for the A6 shouldnt work on the RS6.
Have to find out if the A6 front control arms can be transferred too
I am working out a trade with SteveKen - My Recaro interior for one of his RS6 6speed kits
After I part out everything else from the A6 (including RS6 bodykit) I should have some extra money for the labor for the swap and timing belt
I read they were heavy as a tank. Maybe I better pull one off and throw it on the scale. The weight was the main reason why I was going to ditch them. If you find their actual weight anywhere, please let me know.
The OEM B5 RS4 wheels were like 19 lbs I believe, according to wheelweights.net and a couple of the other wheel databases (although one error could just be repeated when everyone trusts the other sites)
According to post #7 at the thread below, one wheel is 59 pounds with tire. I would guess that puts the wheel somewhere around 30 pounds, which is what I had heard it was. Ill keep looking to see if I can confirm…
For now, a set of TR Motorsports that I have with worn WINTER tires LOL. The RS6 wheels have the wrong size tires anyway, and this will get the winters out of my garage (I need space for my home reno). The TR wheels are lightweight too
Oh, btw… that BBS RE deal fell through. So, I won’t be getting them unfortunately. That being said, I have a set of BBS PFS 57.1 rings (brand new) for sale. $50 shipped anywhere in US or Canada.
