Neither can I. I’m suppose to pick the car up tonight but I think I’m stuck at work for a couple more hours
That’s the perfect excuse to leave early
ha I wish! Unfortunately my parts coworkers are pretty lazy and incompetent so anything with importance I take care of. I had to put together a parts return with 150 items for pickup in the morning.
Now I’m on my way home to get the GF so we can go pick up the car. I hope my go pro is charged so I can get a good video
I think we all would like to know you go pro is charged. Video and pics please.
Well I picked up the car. Didn’t get to see underneath to see the work they did but so far I am just loving the exhaust. The car feels completely different now. No actual data but my butt dyno definitely approves. The amount of low rpm torque that was lost with the previous exhaust was truly amazing. I think this had to be the biggest I smiled driving my car and feeling like thats how the car should pull.
Gopro was charged but in my excitement to pick up the car, I forgot the SD card in my laptop at home. I think I am going to wait a few days until the mufflers settle in and then get some good video for you guys. I already wrote down Saki’s rules about exhaust videos
This exhaust pretty much accomplished everything I wanted to get and more.
-
quiet down so I can actually drive and not get pulled over.
-
regain power loss from the practically straight pipes.
-
go to stainless from aluminized.
I’ll admit when I had the first exhaust done, I was very foolish in thinking how the exhaust couldn’t affect the performance that much. I mean what flows better than pipes with no mufflers? Man was I so wrong, and I’m glad you guys had the proper info here. Thanks to you guys, and a few friends at home, I finally feel my S4 is back on track and finally driving the way it should. I don’t think I can wait any longer on putting the 4:1 diff in so hopefully by next week
Also, I want to throw the car on the lift in the next couple days so I can see the exhaust. I’ll grab some pictures and post up once I get it up in the air
Finally grabbed pictures on Monday of the new exhaust
Unfortunately afterwards, started getting some codes for timing. Trailered it home and now trying to get my list together of things to while motor is out

Damn sorry to hear that. But while the motor is out time to do HEADERS!!!
The headers are #2 on my list right below timing kit from JHM
Sucks about the timing.
I’m also not sure why you guys with fabbed exhausts bother with an X pipe when you put it back by the rear diff. Unless of course you are only doing it for sound.
Timing is what it is. The motor has about 95k on it now and the rattle had progressively gotten worse. It was due for a service
And with the x pipe as far back as he put it, I was surprised it was that far back. When I dropped the car off in the morning and we talked about placement of mufflers, x, and flex joints, he was talking about having it up closer to the front. For only paying for 2 mufflers, I have no complaints with the exhaust. It was a huge improvement over my last crappy setup.
Well a only 5 months later, I finally got the motor pulled. Racing season is over, car is painted and ready to go for the 2016 season. Perfect time to fix my S4 with winter arriving and lots of spare time in the off season.
Over all it took my 6 hours by myself with snack breaks and untangling my dog while he romped around on his tie down.
One thing I found as I pulled the motor, I seem to have a bit of an oil leak. Very wet around the oil pan and lots of grime near the front crank seal.
I’ll know better tomorrow once I start inspecting the motor and timing of what I’m looking at damage wise.

Looks good. Nice job on the pull. It’s very rewarding. These cars like to push oil past the cover seals on the top and bottom front and back. From the picture your car doesn’t look too bad.
Once I get off work, Ill have a chance to get some better pictures of what I find. Plan is to get harness and pieces off the motor. Take the timing covers off, get a good look at all the timing stuff. Heads are coming off as well so I can put JHM’s upgraded valvetrain in it.
Well spent some time tonight pulling stuff off the engine.
Separated the trans and engine. Pulled harness and coolant lines off. Took off the intake manifold n such.
Finally time to find my timing culprits. Got the covers off and here’s what I found.

I wasn’t surprised one bit to find this. Safe to say it was time for a service and lucky I caught it before it bent any valves
is it just me or is that super aggressively off?

It seems pretty far off for me but thats the first one I’ve got to see in person. That was from bank 2. I didn’t pull bank one yet. I can’t find my old logs but I think my codes were for bank 1.
After eating what feels like 10 lbs of turkey, I tinkered on the motor a little more
Last weekend I only pulled the bank 2 cam adjuster apart. When I looked at bank 1, I had a feeling it had been replaced. It looked new compared to anything else on the motor.
Once I got it pulled apart, I was right. It has a very tiny amount of wear to it

It would be interestng to know how many miles are on those parts. The one deffinitly looks newer
Great thread!
That adjuster looks crazy! That is a lot of wear
What Carbon finer hood did you run? It actually looks to have very good fitment.
