Intro: Newbie to AudiRevolution

Saki mentioned that I should make an introduction, so here it is :D.

My setup:

PJ K04’s
ER Intercoolers
RS4 Intake
85MM MAF (Hitachi)
2Bennet Downpipes

Those are some of the engine basics. I work for GIAC, so that is also my software. I go on Audizine frequently, but I have grown tired of arguing with people over topics of which they know nothing about. It seems that this forum has a smaller group of more open-minded and knowledgable people.

My goal is to maximize what my K04 car has to offer. It is nice that the development work has already been done, I just have to figure out how to take the most advantage of it. My most recent tuning effort involved a 50/50 mix of E85/91, with some small fueling tweaks using our Serial Suite programmer. With this setup, I was able to achieve consistent 3.1 FATS, with a low of 3.07. Unfortunately, I ran out of injector and now realize that I wasn’t getting enough fuel for my lambda requests.

All of the previous work was done with my GIAC OTS Race file, with the mentioned fueling modifications. Right now, I am having a leaking valve cover gasket replaced, as well as putting in 2.8L intake cams. I have also upgraded to a custom GIAC file, running much more timing. While it was originally designed for 104 octane, I plan to utilize it with full E85. I will be purchasing some 72lb EV14 injectors in the near future, and also have a Bosch 5 bar FPR at my disposal.

I also have water-methanol injection on the way, but I might just use this as a safety net and for IAT’s. I have also toyed with the idea of 50/50 E85 plus water-methanol injection. We’ll see, as I will be trying a few different options to find a balance between reliablity, fuel economy and power. The file revision that I am running previously made 452whp on our Mustang dyno (Austin’s Nogaro S4 if anyone is familiar), so with the addition of cams and water-methanol injection I am very excited to push the envelope of K04 power.

I will update everyone on my exploits, and hopefully we can find new ways to advance the B5 S4 platform.

Welcome! Thanks for registering!

temanuele?

Yep, figured the intro would give it away!

Awesome, punch Austin in the nuts and tell him love Jared.

Cool welcome to another tuner, even if it is GIAC  j/k. Would love to see a jfonz vs GIAC K04 matchup - we’re looking for good banter and fast cars!

Welcome!!

Please post the log you did with the e85 mix , they are pretty interesting.

Regards

everyone went nuts when he sold that car…must have been mjnty goodness.

welcome

ever hit the strip? Are you guys in cali somewhere?. If you have any times post them up and I will add them to audirevolution.net/quartermile

cheers

Ha nice man. Good luck with the project.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I’ll certainly give Austin a good punch. He sold the B5 to Tyson (1FastS4), and is now driving a B8 S4. The mileage at the date of sale was around 13,000 if my memory serves correct :o.

Any discussion on logging and/or tuning would have my interest. While GIAC doesn’t do much in the way of new stuff for the B5, it is very exciting to see JFonz allow this platform to continually evolve. I will be doing some times once I have everything up and running with my new file. I am guessing this will be in a month or so. In the Fall, a few of us from GIAC are planning on heading up to Sacramento to get times on our in-house and personal cars. If anyone is in the area or wants to make the drive, we’d love to get a group together!

I’ll be taking some new logs of my setup. My last round of logs was more of an experiment, as I wanted to do a simple analysis that I could recommend to any individual, regardless of tuning proficiency. Now that I have my Zeitronix (Big thanks to Jibber), the real logging can begin.

If you’re looking for technical info on logging/tuning, you might be better served doing some research and posting on a certain ME7 self tuning site that I’m sure you’ve heard of (the name of that site is blocked here, just FYI as to why I’m being retardedly vague). All of the people on here that know much about tuning are over on that forum as well (except for maybe Count Voughn, but he doesn’t really post much here either), as well as some killer Europeans and other random studs who are willing to help. Just a heads up, as that is probably the best technical resource for tuning/logging related discussion.

I’m stoked to see what you can do with E85. I’ll be making the venture there myself hopefully soon.

cool man to jhave you. is there any chance that GIAC is going to help you with updated stuff.

Welcome over here. Thanks for the kind words, it’s nice to be noticed by the big time guys. I like how you have been playing with the e85 blends, but certainly be careful with this new file you are talking about with full e85. Just be careful how early and how hard you hit the timing. I just don’t want you to window your block
E85 is a double edged sword with all the power it can make.

A little bit, but we have a pretty good library of B5 files that I have been able to use as base files and then just make small changes here and there. Surprisingly, our biggest remaining B5 presence is over in Sweden. We have a dealer over there who is big into alcohol injected S4’s/RS4’s and we have done the software for a few of their Loba setups. I talked to them a lot while working with the blends, and they simply utilize the AWE fueling kit with a lemmiwinks style of changes. With the colder climate there, they typically only go up to a 50% mix of ethanol.

The new file that I will be running has been utilized by a handful of people, Austin for one. While he ran it on VP109, I will be the first to utilize it with E85. It will be interesting to try out, I certainly intend to gather as many performance times and figures as I can.

Have you seen some catastrophic detonation with E85? I know that a few of the Evo guys have suffered from that demise, but it’s hard for me to find nearly as much E85 data for the S4.

I think he’s more referring to the fact that you would be running so much torque with such a sharp, early onset with K04’s tweaked out on E85, on the stock engine. Or possibly warning about not going over MBT (especially early in the curve), as going even just a few degrees over MBT drastically increases cylinder pressures. Knock is usually pretty much a non-issue with E85, unless you go nutty or something.

Yeah, I’m just pointing out how easy it is to make so much tq so early… i’m sure you are well versed in engine fundamentals, so i’m not trying to lecture you or anything. 22 psi is more than enough boost to make big tq really early.
Here is a file that made 490wtq on the 034 dyno.

^ The car has so much left, with a larger fpr that I can’t use cause I’m scarred it will blow a rod out the side.

I really appreciate the input. I remember when that individual posted those logs on the other forum, that was what really started to get me excited about E85. My plan is to wait until I upgrade rods before I run the more aggressive file. If the hardware is there it is always tempting, but I’m trying to hold out :D.

The K04 cars that I have seen rod failures on resulted in bent rods, lowering compression and causing drivability issues. A broken rod would certainly be an entirely different animal altogether. I haven’t seen a piston failure at this power level (hopefully you guys can also chime in on this one), so the plan for now is just rods.

You should be more than fine with stock pistons. Spend that money elsewhere.
