J-Fonz Tuning is looking for beta testers.

It’s high time I got started on my b6/b7 s4/rs4 program. I can’t do it alone and I need your help.
If you are interested in having some custom tuning done and are local to NJ shoot me an email.
Beta testing starts with the first accepted applicant.
To qualify your car must be in proper working order, no codes or issues.

I’m hoping I can help further the developement of the platform.

Warning: This is not a flash and go situation, extensive logging, dyno, and 1/4 mile testing can be expected, not for the faint of heart.
Tell your friends.

Coolio. You have some huge competition(JHM) and AR probably isn’t the best place to find someone looking for a different tune. Good luck though, get on az

Plenty of JHM haters on AZ that want another tune just to be different and not feel like a fanboy. Good luck though, is this your first attempt at tuning an NA motor?

Jfonz, love your work on the B5 but I suspect most S4s on here are JHM tuned. The RS4 is another story until JHM go full retail.

Yeah, I figured most people on here are JHM tuned and that is great becasue they provide a fantastic product. I’m not looking to steal existing JHM customers, but maybe they have friends that are local to me.
I’m actually hoping I can become a JHM reseller and offer their parts to go with my software.
This is not my first NA motor.
I have done a couple VR’s and a 3.0 a4
I have also done a b6 s4 but it was a base file done remotely for a friend of a friend so I did not get to do all the stuff I wanted with it.
I’m already well on my way with 1.8t’s and 4.2t’s so the next logical step is the 2.0t and the 4.2
One of my conversations with someone at JHM has motivated me to get started on this platform.

I would try to tune B8 S4s if I were you. They are outselling the B6/7 S4 5 to 1…and with 2009-2010-2011-2012-2013 models already out there, it’s a much bigger market. The tunes also are pretty…simple. Most of them are boost modded and that’s about it. One of them modded the hell out of timing and throttle…and has now grenaded 3 motors as a result and is having lots of trouble behind the scenes. It’s ripe for someone to step in, offer an excellent tune, and blow up the B8 S4 market’s idea of ‘value’ ($1200 is ‘cheap’ in B8 land).

If I were a tuner, the last possible platform I would try to tune would be the B6/7 S4. Mostly because

a) it’s tougher to make power as a tuner on an NA platform. The power is there, but as APR/GIAC/UNI/REVO proved…it’s hard to get anywhere near what JHM/countvohn is able to do
b) after years of shitty tunes and zero parts support, JHM stepped in and absolutely strangled the market.

From a business point of view, I couldn’t think of a worse business model. Since you’re a very small company (relative to an APR or something) you have a chance to add incremental growth to your current B5 etc. business, so you may be able to make it an accretive story for your bottom line, but god damn, I don’t envy you!

You’ll get all the support you need from this site though, and hopefully you do some good stuff to push or match or beat JHM’s success in the market. All the best!

Saki’s B8 market logic is almost exactly what I was going to point out. It’s on a silver platter, much larger potential and less work. I think it’s a no brainer.

yeah, as a software only guy, you need to focus on booster cars I believe. The NA cars need hardware + software to have fun. If you’re trying to sell a guy a JFONZ tune for $500 to stop hiim buying his JHM tune for $550, that’s an uphill battle…especially when he’s ordering his intake spacers, LWCP, LW rotors, intake manifold, catback and downpipes from JHM.

what??? what are you fucking serious.

hahahaah. Hi Im jfonz I tune out of my living room. I went on this web site and just learned how to tune my B5 and I have tuned a few other B5 with stolen code I took off the tuning web site with some other changes I made. AND NOW IM READY FOR YOUR V8 guys to let me learn on your cars…

hahahah… Yes lets rush to take this deal… you have never seen or driven a V8 car and you have tuned a few other na cars. NOW threw the wonder of a few logs your ready to learn at other peoples expence with there cars AGAIN…

WHAT>>> seriously are you fucking serious…

Where is your shop…where is your dyno or your test bed… what is the customer going to do when you blow up there motor? Are you insured? Seriopusly kid… take some time and realize that people like APR and GAIC JHM ETC have a interest in making sure they can replace and deal with motor failue when and if something goes wrong. Then you have companys like vast or Jfonz that have the best intentions but when the shit hits the fan they can just change there name and disipear.

I know this might be harsh but when just a few months ago snowtrooper said he felt what you were doing was a bad idea due to you not knowing fully what your doing only to be on the same website that you were selling stolen code from for profit looking for tuning answers. You might want to stick with desperate 1.8T and 2.7T guys that can’t get proper support.

Saki and NY07RS4
Your argument for business logic makes perfect sense. But I can’t just pack it in on the 4.2 because of that.
I really just enjoy tuning cars meaning that I don’t do it soley to make money. I work another full time job in a seperate field to fulfill the money requirement.
My comany name and reputation are far more valuable to me than the money. The way I’d like to grow it is by offering solid software for audi and vw platforms, b5, b6, b7, and b8
It may take a little while to get there but I will.

we’re business geeks unfortunately so we can’t let you do that.
lol jk.

Have at it dude! I would love to see another good option for the B6/7 guys to keep moving that platform forward. JHM’s momentum seems to have stalled a bit lately with their move/adding staff, so it’s a good time to pick on them frankly.

Coolio! The b6/7 s4 is a tough nut to crack… The B8S4 seems like a great route to go. I just have a feeling that they are getting really simple tunes and someone is going to eventually come along with something better than what’s out there. Or at least offer something more reasonably priced and corner the market :stuck_out_tongue:

The RS4 would be an interesting route to go as well. JHM makes the best tunes for them, but haven’t been able to for quite some time now. I’m sure there are a lot of owners who would appreciate that. However as it’s a rarer (is that a word?) car, it might be harder to get beta testers and whatnot.

jfonz…how do you tune cars? I know the B5 they can ship you the ECU. Same will likely be necessary with the B6/7.

Would it be fair to say that you don’t have the ability to flash a car? That would make the B7 RS4 and B8 stuff a bit difficult I guess.

If any of what Chris just said is true I have to agree. This is actually quite disturbing Finding out just now that jfonz is just a part time thing out of his house is actually vary scarry.

It’s easy for someone with nothing to loose to talk on how they want to expand there project or company whatever this is. Only to add that this is now going to be something where the victim will be taking there car to the dyno track etc… only to advance the same guy who has yet to make a full commitment to this as a job and take the proper steps to protect the end consumer

No licence no bonds for helping potentially harmed customers spells bad news.

I’m sure J-fonz will speak for himself, but IIRC when it was pointed out that he was using stolen tuning files he went back to the drawing board and made his own… Maybe I’m wrong though.

I personally have a few things/hobbies I do part time, which I do much better than many people who do it for a living (not tuning cars lol). I can’t afford to leave a stable job and good income to start on something new that won’t turn a profit right away, so for the time being they will be things I do on the side. With that in mind I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having someone who does it part time if they are good at it.

Let’s just ask questions and allow him to explain before we jump all over him.

This has nothing to do with how good or bad this is. Its a matter of customer recourse. This is massively irresponsible. Look at vast. They did the same thing. Come in and we will help. Only to leave several people tens of thousands of dollars out of money.

Did you read what you just wrote. The guy made money on stolen ideas and then AFTER getting called out on it went back and made something more of his own AND NOW he wants YOUR car to see if he can figure out how to make a good tune.

I want to tune cars and I’m a Nice guy. Are you going to let me tune your car and then take it to the dyno and then the track. Only to potentially have something catastrophic happen, and my response is. Well I do this in my spare time at home and I can’t afford to replace your motor?

EPL and AMD blew up tweets S4 motor and they are paying to ship the car back to AMD and then rebuilding the motor. Why? there licensed and insured. When Jfonz blows a motor what do you think is going to happen?

Coming on a web site asking for victims when he has no experience is silly and completely selfish. Why doesn’t Jfonz spend the money to protect the people he is tuning for before he looks to expand his pocket book.

I agree this is a joke.

Here’s what I don’t understand.

Business sense says that he should be tuning B8s rather than B6/7s (reasons mentioned above by sakimano).
Jfonz’s response “I have to stick with it”. Not sure I understand the reasoning for that.

On one hand, he says it’s more of a side project thing in which case, fine, tinker around and don’t go all out. But then you expect people to simply give you their S4s to play with and potentially damage?

On the other hand, he says he wants to slowly expand this business into the B8 platform later on. That sounds like a business venture, in which case, he’s not using proper business sense.

So, either it’s a pet project with little commitment (I certainly wouldn’t give anyone my car for that) or it’s a serious business venture but with little business sense.

Why don’t you simply get your own B6 (cheaper than a B7) and tinker with it on your own first?

I’m just confused I guess…

In any case, not really something that’s impacting me in any way so I should probably just shut up.

No this is in line with what Im saying. I don’t think the B6/7 guys know just how many failed businesses there are out there. There are a large amount of B5 guys sitting with empty pockets due to companies taking there money and then going out of business. Vast is one of the latest.

This I want to do this for fun and I want you to put your car out there as the sacrificial lam while I make you goto the track dyno and do other bidding when he himself isn’t committed enough to this to protect the members or to even make the investment himself.

This is irresponsible and I don’t even think the site should allow this.

Forgetting the “J-Fonze biz” specifics - starting a company in a garage is not necessarily a bad thing. Think Apple, Microsoft etc.

Not every start-up company has investors with deep pockets and a lot of patience.

I have a net working associate who brokers petroluem products for large companies - he has 6 employees who all work virtually (3 from home offices and 3 in Rotterdam in rented apartments) Annual revenue for the 7 person company on 2011? $540 Million. Not bad for people who work from home 90%. In Feb of this year he leased a small office in midtown.

Point, as long as the business is above board, licensed/acredited etc, insured and not breaking any laws I don’t think anyone should be judged for working from home. Sorry for the OT chatter, I just don’t personally see an issue with how big or where a biz is located.

In response to Chrisk and blakeD
I think you have a misinformed opinion of me.
I appreciate your concern over my ablility to tune/take care of customers.
The fact is I do both very well. I have tuned cars numbering in the hundreds now on various fueling and turbo setups with real world results. We just placed 9th in the pikes peak hillclimb with a 605 e85 s4 piloted by my Dealer in Colorado.
I’ve actually owned a few v8’s one of which was a D2 s8.
As for my shop/dyno testbed
Night Shift Performance is a shop in NJ that I have partnered up with as a dealer. We are working on several projects together, most notably the shop gallardo with the campi ecu.
The dyno is over to the left on the other side of the shop. I have videos posted of it on here somewhere.
