This would be great to see. With now little the 3.0 has progressed in the past 9 years It would be great to see them become a real hot rod option. I feel there is a ton of potential in the 3.0 game when you add the JHM flavor
Here is my take on it. As far as the supercharger goes.
I own a A4 3.0 so Im going to make this a hot rod for me and the family. I used to have a B6 S4 I TT’ed it and then sold the kit and sold the car to move into this platform and help fund some other projects.
I was the first guy to have a Supercharged B6 S4 and a C5 A6 both that I made. So moving forward when the long list of development mods are done for the 3.0 it WILL be supercharged.
The debate over turbo and supercharger is one that to me is a waste of time. While they both have there up side and down sides the plain point that a supercharger will huff more CFM with less heat then a turbo (when sized right) takes lots of work out of the complications. Im don’t want to run 40 oil lines coolant lines then 60feet of pluming and pipes all new exhaust work drop the motor. Not only that but here is a video of my GT 600+whp car Vs a JHM Supercharged S4
The supercharged S4 in this video has 130,000 miles and the only mod to the car was a supercharger. While the 1/4 mile time wasn’t the greatest it was a stock car and we didn’t have the TCU logic set up the temps were 98deg and it was on a lame tune.
as a side note please don’t share this as this is a Audirevolution video I want to only be shared on here and not linked please
Changing the trans TCU logic and less boost these automatic cars can get into the low 12’s with just a blower and exhaust. I feel that a 3.0 running the same pulley will have more boost obviously due to the restriction of the 3.0.
How much power/torque can these auto boxes hold before we need to upgrade the torque converter and valve body also are these gearboxes the same as the one found in the S4
:o :o
So was your car the one in the teaser JHM posted in one of their videos quite some time ago? I’m dying to see the setup, it’ll probably be until that Moro Blue S4 gets finished before any of the public gets a good look at it, and that’s if the owner feels like sharing (which he very well may not)
S/C dominates on these cars. Save the turbos for the 4 cylinders, as where the V6 and V8 engines love the centrifugal blowers. Like Count said, it just makes more sense to go with the S/C as oppose to 2 turbos. These 3.0 have the torque and power where they stand to spin the blowers.
I FREEKIN LOVE THIS SITE!!! I can’t wait to get my DP’s off and tune done.
I wonder if its too early to call JHM and make an apt for the end of August to come down and have my car tuned and DPs instaled and get the 6 speed linkage upgrades. I really wanted to get the RNS-E but I think instead of 1000$ for that I would rather have tune and DP’s.
So just out of curiousity if we are going supercharged in the future I personally would like to build my internals up just to be on safe side and incase I ever wanted to turn the boost up. So my question is are there internals available for the 3.0? or some for other motors that can be used in ours?
Also for those people who get the JHM tune now, and then later down the road go SC’d would the tune need to be modified again?
You might want to consider Dynavin’s offering once they release their Android-based units later this year.
There are definitely internals available for our motor. I’m not sure what, but I know that 3.0King from audizine put quite a lot of non-oem internals into his 3.0.
Getting custom pistons and rods wont be an issue, as far as who makes them, not sure. The 3.0l are the same cranks the 2.7t guys use when they stroke there motors so your safe there, we know those are strong. And being that the 3.0 engines have iron sleeves then technically all you need is some forged rods and pistons. Next thing in my mind is how much can the engine block take, well we know the 4.2l blocks without sleeves are doing well so lets hope these are going to be just as strong if not better.
If you get a all motor tune and later get it supercharged, yes you will more then likely need a re-tune.
The pistons on the other hand maybe a little more difficult
Bore 3.25 in. 82.5 mm
Stroke 3.65 in. 92.8 mm
Displacement 182 cu. in. 2976 cc
Compression ratio 10.1 : 1
There are a couple of options on the intergrated engineering site, but the stroke is off as well as the compresson ration
things call JHM and they can tell you when you can get your car in.
and for anyone that gets the jhm ECU or TCU tune now never has to upgrade there tune. If you get a JHM S/C your tune is already paid for if JHM makes now changes to the tune you will get updated
Also for the 3.0 and boost. At this time I think it would be best to not go and start building motors. I would wait to see where the limits of other things are first before money gets spent on anything. Also when it comes to motors best to wait till a few people have built them first before you buy anything.
The thing is, you bought one of their units with the crappy WinCE OS. They’ve had a beta unit out for e46 cars for a few months now that is leaps and bounds better than their old stuff because it’s running android OS. Supposedly they will be replacing all of their units with ones that run android OS later this year or early next year. Those head units will provide infinite more functionality than any other commercially sold double-din head unit available.
