JHM rs4 stage 1 supercharger kit

haha i didnt forget its just finding time.
yes i am the first kit in the uk, i believe i am the first R/H/D kit.
the exchange rate was ok its cost me a touch over 6000 uk for the kit landed in the uk with all shipping and import/duty fees paid.

Great stuff! Exciting to see the pictures. Looking forward to the next post!

Nice work man, keep us updated and hope you enjoy that thing!!

Excellent update and work so far, keep them coming!

Spectacular work. The motor looked very clean. Did you wipe it down beforehand or was that how it looked? Excited for further updates.

awesome!!! I cannot wait to do this, i cant wait to see that big ol snail wedged in there!!! great work man.

Nice job man.

It is interesting to see how Audi arranged the engine compartment of the left hand drive and right hand drive cars. From the cowl area forward looks the same as the cars here but the cowl area is switched around.

thanks for the kind words everyone ;D updates incoming!

nope the motor is untouched. i thought it looked dirty!, i dont mind keeping the outside nice but i rarely clean under the bonnet.

yep apart from behind the firewall they are very similar, just a couple of things in front of that area differ as i will explain soon.

back on it.

here is the oil separator with the new check valve that needs installing.

in hindsight i should have installed this on the manifold while it was out, the aluminium piece that houses the valve needs bolting onto the manifold first then the oil separator bolts to that. there is very little room to work behind the manifold when its on and when trying to slide the separator into the the aluminium piece we managed to damage the o ring, audi dont sell the o ring separate so i have measured it up and ordered some online.

so whilst waiting for the o rings i decided to crack on and remove the secondary air injection system and ac dryer.
SAI no longer needed.

ac dryer bagged up waiting to be re homed.

might just be enough room for a supercharger!

i couldn’t resist a little mock up!

http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r794/sarrs4/jhm%20supercharger/IMG_20140802_182128_zps7602cb4d.jpg

with the quick mock up done i could check for clearance issues between the charger and bodywork.
i was aware when i bought this kit that a few pieces of bodywork would need trimming due to the size of the charger and the limited room in the rs4’s engine bay. jhm recommend trimming the bits in red in the picture below.

the red lines at the top of the picture are cuts in the lip that sticks out on the inner wing, these are then tapped flat with the panel below. if left as is these will saw through the intake and boost pipe in no time at all.
the cuts on the end of the bumper mounts are for clearance for the route the belt takes.
and the red square ish shape at the bottom of the pic is to provide clearance for the intake pipe where it attaches to the charger.

jhm recommend trimming the metal, tapping back any sharp edges and sealing with paint.
being a painter/bodyworker i decided rather than just chop out a bit and tap it back i would cut out a slightly larger area (the blue line on the pic) and let in a plate to finish it off. this is not necessary but i couldn’t help myself.

quick plate fabbed up.

edge cut and tapped flat, plate welded in and ground up.

http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r794/sarrs4/jhm%20supercharger/IMG_20140805_161110_zps3a09da4b.jpg

sealed up, primed up and painted.

with this done the only thing left to come in to contact with the charger is part of the engine wiring loom. this is fastened out the way using the now spare bolt hole from where the secondary air injection was removed.

Very impressive installation. Especially loving the fabbing. I only wish I had those skills. Maybe sell the plate design back to JHM lol

+1.
Very happy and excited (and a bit jealous  for you Sar.
Thanks for taking the time to post for us… can’t wait for the description of your first run… man, that’s awesome.

+1000000

the funniest part was the usual crybabies on RS246 freaking out that you have to fabricate that little part (you don’t…SAR went above and beyond to make something he liked), or that JHM recommended folding the rough ends back out of the way. As if that was blasphemy.

It’s funny, when MRC installs a TTS supercharger kit (or APR, or whoever else), your entire quattro designed intake manifold (a VERY important part) comes out and rots in your garage, and is replaced by one designed by a company that isn’t even the size of one of Audi’s ball hairs…but nobody minds that. But trim a piece of superfluous metal out of the way, and all hell breaks loose

Stunning fabrication work. Looks OEM. It’s fantastic to see these jhm kits in the hands of so many capable individuals. Thanks for sharing

Its obvious that the people doing the complaining don’t actually install anything major themselves, but just drive it to a workshop to get everything done.
They have no idea what’s done behind panels etc that they can’t see.
Installing a forced induction system to an engine bay as cramped and limited on space as the S4, RS4 will always result in a bit of modification to OEM panels etc.
Considering the size of the blower the small amount of modifications needed to metal work is bugger all.
They seem to think that installing a supercharger kit should be as simple as installing an aftermarket plug in play stereo system.

I would hate to hear what they think of fitting a front mount intercooler, most cars require cutting up the front crash bar and bumper for fitment.

^^^exactly. What they don’t know doesn’t hurt them. Once they see the truth, they freak out.

by the same token, if Sar had just said ‘I installed a JHM supercharger kit’, and showed a pic of the car and engine bay, they’d say: “Where is it?”…and would say how great it is once they see his performance testing. Ignorance is bliss. Knowledge is dangerous in the wrong hands lol.
