JHM Supercharger install B7 S4

So at this point were done with the debates of what supercharger you should put on your car. The so called supercharged kits that VF and PES cars used have proven no faster then a lightly modified Natural aspirated JHM Cars.

With JHM cars racking up back to back 11 second passes then having the 12.2 second Automatic JHM cars and the large amount of the JHM supercharger cars getting more and more miles on them its becoming a good test to see how the cars hold up after what is now going on the 3rd year of testing. not only that but to have every JHM Supercharged S4 going 12.7 or faster no matter what the condition or mods is a good start

I don’t know how many of you saw this video. so Ill post it again.

This post is going to cover the build up of a high mileage B7 S4. When doing a supercharger install on your S4 there are going to be things your going to want to look for. This post is to help point out what is common and what is going to help support you making more power and getting the most out of your JHM supercharged S4

They are impressive results, cant wait for what the future holds for stage 2 and 3

Thats a great video, out of curiosity what were the dyno numbers…and poor ngng lol

Is this your S4 Count.

I thought the best way to get the most out of JHM SC was

  1. Buy S4
  2. Send to JHM
  3. Winning

Haha… Nice timing, especially since my install is happening next week. ;D

you fucker!

This is not my car. My car (B6 S4) was sold to start getting more stuff for the 3.0. So I went from a TT B6 S4 to a stock 3.0 A4… YA… just think on that for a second…

As for The results on the dyno and for what its worth each dyno is different. Testing for the JHM Supercharger was on the same dyno. with all the same settings added and then adjusted for. So the numbers would always be less generous in there results.

The 11 second pass was 443whp. In testing the first day ever for the JHM supercharger kit on the dyno the JHM supercharged car made just over 500whp. Thats 500whp on pump gas. From there the next 8 months were to detune there supercharger kit to just below the 450whp mark.

On a side note to the JHM supercharger testing and them making 500whp. On that same day, on that same dyno A tial 770 car with race gas all the goodies. Made 471whp. Looks like the tial cars Only run great when there on in house dynos of the companys that sell them. moving on…

Your list, That is the best way to get the most out of your supercharged S4 8). There are able people and able shops but when JHM sees more S4’s in one week then most all shops will see in several years worth of time and more then most people will work on in 10 lifetimes. It makes sense to have them do it.

A good example while this hose looks wore out. You wouldn’t know that its bad. The current JHM supercharger install (the car above)

Im going to continue with the list of what you should expect to see on any high mileage S4 let alone someone that is looking to add the JHM supercharger.

Wow I only knew of one. The 3.0 must be a rocket compared to the TT S4…oh wait I meant that the other way around.

But thank you for getting a 3.0, I guess that makes you more determined to get your 3.0 to be as fast as your last car

That is some serious grunt, I love how you had to de-tune it. It is going to be wild uncorked.

What is the 0-60mph on a SC car

Looking forward to more information and what you can show us, most of it should be applicable to the 3.0

Agh! iPhone won’t let me watch the video!!

Great thread Count, I look forward to the updates. This thread is great because you make a good point regarding the scarcity of the B6/7 S4’s and the resultant inexperience of mechanics. It’s a shame I’m in Canada 4000km away from JHM otherwise I think I would have handed over my Amex ;D. Maybe one day we will see JHM East.

Back on topic, how many miles on this fine looking B7?

As an aside, can we hear (perhaps in a different thread) more about the TT B6?

I’m in Canada and bought the JHM supercharger

;D Yep, I am joining the V8 SC club.

way to make everyone jealous ;D

ok now for the start of the tech section of the thread.

At the center of every B6/7 S4 is a oil consumption issue. Some cars never see oil consumption, others only see oil consumption after long low to mid RPM drives, while still others see oil consumption slowly over time.

One of the larger offenders is the valve covers.

Here is what your motor should look like

You can see a little oil around the cam seals and thats normal. What most people don’t know is that when you get higher mileage cars they tend to look like this.

http://audirevolution.net/addons/albums/images/231902678.jpg

This isn’t out of the norm for oil to push past the valve cover seal and then start to collect this much. Its hard to tell in this picture but that collection of oil is about an Inch think in some places.

Here is a close up.

http://audirevolution.net/addons/albums/images/957719449.jpg

what you have to be careful of is that when the valve covers have this much blow-by its also possible for them to pull in dirt and debris. When the valve covers are under negative pressure this can lead to the motor pulling this back into and past the valve covers. This can obviously cause damage. Something to definitely think about when looking into keeping on top of maintenance for you car.

The oil was so thick that this is what it looked like after the first round of cleaning. Look at how much oil collection is still there.

You can see better from this picture the depth difference between where the oil collection was and how thick it was. Here is one on the other side of the head with most of the oil cleaned off.

The front of the motor is a large concern yet what tends to go unchecked the how bad it can get on the back of the motor.

While this isn’t fresh oil this is oil that has leaked down the back of the motor and is still present

and then one more

So the valve covers definitely need to get looked at as well as the crank seals.

The great thing about the JHM Supercharger kit Vs any other attempt from other companys to make a supercharger kit is that JHM has addressed and changed the entire PCV system. While other attempted supercharger kits have all kinds of valve cover gasket issues. Where no one had adressed the issues of the PCV system and you see blown out valve cover gaskets after just a few miles.

great post count! i try to tell anyone i see that is experiencing slow oil consumption that they should change their valve cover gaskets. i had replaced mine at around 36k miles for the first time, about the time i did my headers. it was a disaster. a few months later and maybe 3k miles, i smelled oil burning and though there was something wrong with my motor and possible engine problem. took it to my indy, he told me it was my valve cover gaskets again. i though he was just trying to fuck me but he tore it apart and showed me exactly what you just did. oil everywhere, literally pissing out. he told me it will never get better, it just doesnt happen. for some reason, the design never allows a proper fix. so guys keep that in mind when you are losing oil, it might no be your motor!!!

x2. I try to clean my engine bay regularly, but I remember the first time I noticed the amount of oil seeping past the gaskets. The first 2 times they were changed it didn’t take long before the oil appeared again. Black RTV was added the last time and so far the oil hasn’t been as much of an issue.

your prv was probably gunked the hell up…

someone should make a bulletproof replacement one wink wink, like billet, threaded cap for easy service, silicone diaphragm, threaded barb fittings that can be replaced with -AN

^^X2. . . I always feel like it’s just kinda jerry-rigged on there even though all clamps etc are good & tight.

one might even say jury rigged. Or Jerry built.

Damn, I’m happy my valve covers don’t look anything like that. Great info as usual count!

very eye opening to see all that collection. Great thread count. I think its a great idea to let people know the behind the sene stuff that isn’t as sexy as the supercharger. Many people don’t pay enough attention to maintence if you ask me. Threads on people going 10ik between oil changes and replacing there plugs with cheap cross matched parts just erks me

That oil build up is a real eye opener. WOW. That shit is caked on there thick!! ^I agree - good to expose the not so sexy part of the build to ensure people are aware of the other just as vital aspects to a proper install and the maintenance items neededing attention etc.

I remember cleaning my oil build-up. Took a can of Gunk, and probably 12 cans of brake cleaner to get my engine clean the way I wanted it to look. Here is mine, before and after.
