JHM, TCU and ECU - DK

Yes, cats are still in.

But, now this has turned in to a sport.
So wishlist is lighter brake rotors, light weight crank pulley, an new intake, cat delete and new exhaust.

I did two runs with full commitment, the other one is a 13.00 with a slope of 1.5%.

JHM really got this motor dialed in.
And I still have stage 2 to look forward to!

100-200 time:

The parts list you put will get you down into R8 performance numbers.

I got a much enjoyed bump from the JHM LW rotors. They are a sneaky performance mod most wouldn’t think of. A good LW part to go with the crank pulley.

Dumping the cats usually shows really big in the MPH. Generally that is the first thing that shows if the car has cats or not. Either way. You can’t argue a jump in performance that you have over stock.

I agree, it is completely transformed!

And with mine being the avant, with winter tires on the original Audi 18” winter rims on a wet road.

I’m just really impressed!

Still trying to dial in my leave. Slight gas and fully brake seems to do the best.

That’s brilliant. What rpm are you at roughly at launch?

I’m trying to linger just above idle, haven’t quite found the precise rpm to stay at. But I did manage to get the 0-100 down to 4,65.

I’ve just had the cat’s gutted and the rear part of the exhaust removed (one of the holders of the exhaust snapped - so by accident) and besides the great sound it also pulles way more! - Struggling for traction on dry road, and today I even managed to beat a Mercedes GLE63 from red light to red light :smiling_imp:.

On the hold for a Stage 2 at JHM - man it must be a total animal after that update!

Depending on the JHM TCU tune you should have SC - stall control. Mash the throttle and the brake at the same time. Let the RPMs move up to 2500+rpm at the peak rpm lift off the brake.

Dosen’t seem to have it. It climbed to about 1900 and the leave was slow.
Couldn’t choose SC when I bought the update either, so I guess it’s not a standard thing when buying the TCU tune :man_shrugging:t3:

So, wrote JHM and now there is a new file for my TCU with SC waiting for me. Can’t wait to see what it adds to the mix!
And stage 2 is being worked on as well.

I can’t believe how much the tuner can press out of this engine!

Update when I get the new TCU tune in, and later with stage 2 as well.
Should I back down to standard ECU and TCU file just to check where it were at standard, and then do the new TCU and ECU tune to see where it gotten me?

Could I hear more of your tunes please? Where n how to I get them?

@Macsaudi
I have the transmission tune (TCU tune) and the stage 2 engine tune. The tuner is JHM - https://jhmotorsports.com/

Thanks a lot for sharing your results Kim! :star_struck: As a fellow S6 C6 owner and Swedish (Malmö) neighbor I’m very interested in your findings and would love to have the chance to meet up and experience the beast!
I was on the fence about tuning my own S6 after a rather major exterior polish and After reading your posts I’ve made up my mind to take the plunge! :grimacing:
Here is a video in Swedish about my S6 restoration project, next up is performance

Do you have any video of your car in action? And would you be interested in doing a video on Pitstop about your car?
Ps. I’ve added you on Facebook as well
Br,
Anton

Anton The JHM tune is def the single best tune for the 5.2 S6 and S8. Espically when you do the TCU with it as that unlocks more performance. The best part is it’s been very consistent across everyone’s car. The performance increases are hard to ignore.

and welcome to the forum.

Thx justin but I’m the one who should say thanks! I’ve been lurking here for a while and gotten a lot of great tips and info from you in other posts, very much appriciated!
We run a newly started youtube channel about cars here in Sweden and I’m doing and will be doing a lot of content with my private S6. Haven’t seen much high quality YT content on these cars so been thinking about doing some english specials or subs.
And as it looks now the JHM route is high on my priority list especially as I feel I’m a bit behind on performance atm.

Btw. Do you have any idea what to expect from a stock S6 on the 1/8 mile compared to a JMH tuned one?

Woxxman, yes,English subtitles please!

Insane performance increases Kim, I’m following this with excitment! :grimacing:
Is the 4,65s run with the cats removed or before the exhaust work?

This is before the cats and the exhaust work.

Thanks Justin! Just spoke with Kim on messenger last night and heard he was working on the exhaust to be finished today. Really looking forward to those results!

When talking about Kim’s car. Its making pretty awesome performance increases with the gutted IM. Do you have any idea of how much/if any gains he has left from changing to a new and working IM? From what you’ve told med the IM could make 0,2-0,4s difference on a stock car. Any idea how much improvement it would give Kim’s tuned car?
I have a feeling its only a matter of time before Kim tries himself but I’m just to curious :grimacing:

No one has addressed gutting cats vs welding 1 5/8 inch (IIRC, CV told me the diameter) in place of the cats. I plan to weld in test pipe so there is no exhaust baffling in the gutted cat cans.

Would love some science behind the benefits if any…

Basic fluid mechanics tells us that any expansion and/or contraction in a pipe is going to result in a head loss (ie. increase in backpressure) due to increases in turbulence as the velocity profile of the flow changes.

The magnitude of the increase in backpressure is highly geometry dependent. Clearly a straight pipe would be the limiting case where there is no change in x-section. However, is the engine actually even moving enough air for it to make a noticeable difference? Only someone who has done before and after testing with the test pipes being the only thing that has changed can speak to that.
