HUGE Shoutout to Jfonz tuning! He has been helping me throughout this swap and this isn’t even his first B6 S4 2.7T he’s tuned. PM me if you have any questions, but this definitely changes the game.

Oh and ChrisK, I also did EVERYTHING myself on this. I had to get a shop custom make me an exhaust but thats about it. No codes other than a speed sensor that I just need to resistor.

3.0T is the next motor I’m trying, since they are still cheaper than 4.2s

It’s been referenced somewhere here already. Cool build. Great alternative for those with blown V8’s, although did the 2.7TT swap run a cost similar to getting a V8 replacement (likely used). I guess with the V6 you lose the worries about scored cylinder and timing chains and gain worries about the dentist’s drill. Not saying one’s better than the other, just different.

Anyhow, it wouldn’t fly here in Ontario as the 2.7TT was never in the B6 chassis in Canada.

Don’t you have a 3.0 as a coffee table…

Yeah 3.0 motors are surprisingly cheap, great to see that you got this finished. Are you still going with Franks and a stage 3 tune and then sell or going to pull engine and go with the 3.0

is it going to be running soon? (as opposed to walking and making lame 3rd gear jokes)

Running as in what? It moves fine

for the record ‘running’ doesn’t mean casually cruising through 1-2-3 from 2000-5000 rpm

hit the strip. Would love to see a timeslip. I’ll paypal you $10 if you get out of the 13s on K03s. Heck I’ll paypal you $10 if you run faster than 13.30

V8 replacement used would be ~$5000+ from what I’ve seen and the lower priced units have higher miles which would mean possibly chain replacement that pushes the price up.

This swap can be done for ~$2000 on the low side

You got it. I was never shy to go to the track. Need to get the fans wired as well as get rid of the code (should take 5 minutes). I just moved to FL and the car is in MD so for a few weeks It’s gonna sit. Also, just to get the car moving I got these used wheels but to clear the brakes the et is pushed out to 15 which causes major rubbing so I need to get a spare set to go to the track. Should be soon though

Hey clint looks good, I have been moving buildings but I will get in touch this week.

Yes I was talking about the new FSI 3.0T. I still might do my 3.0 (B6 one) twin turbo project but that’s not a high priority and depends on what the next car I get has in it.

what’s the point of a twin turbo using the B6 A4 3.0…isn’t it alusil? So you’re going to make maybe 400 whp and then be stuck without a built motor…and as we’ve discussed in the past a built motor isn’t very economical when you’re the first guy(s) on earth doing it.

If you do a supercharged 3.0 (B8) swap that’d be cool.

It has iron sleeves apparently. I haven’t looked at my spare 3.0 block (table) as its in my garage in NJ. I have my shit so spread out on the East Coast its hard to get anything done lol. Anyways, 3.0T is possibly in the works. I need the wiring diagrams from the bentley manual but it hasnt been released yet. If I had it I could get a better idea of what I’m up against. I’ve referenced the 3.2 and I could make that work for sure (B7 is a B6)

WOW not even one post and your already lying. You just said you had jfonz helk and then you said you had a exhaust made and then before that you mentiuoned how you had help in another thread from othere people;

Also this didn’t cost you JUST 2000 so once again you did somethign neet but your so fucking full of shit its laughabe.

So over a year later you finnily got the car running in just enough time to say you want to do somthing different…wow super win for you huh must be a great job now that you want to do something differetn after the car only has ran for less then 3 moths.

IT is cool and awesom for you. My issues have always been your grose over simplifacation and under pricing of what theyings actully cost and what it actually takes. other then that ive been excited to see this

Said it before, love the white.

Hey Chris, I want to have a civil conversation here but you came in fists swinging. My comment wasn’t a jab at you but rather a defense for myself because I know you were always under the assumption that I got help from everyone on my builds. I was just pumped to say I did it myself and there are only a handful of these out there.

  1. Jfonz wrote me a tune. Yes I admit I could learn ME.7x tuning but that’s not in the plans for me right now so I had to outsource it like most people. If you want to count that it’s cool. His tune did nothing to band-aid my project, it’s an off the shelf file
  2. I got my friend to make me an exhaust. I don’t have the welding/fabrication equipment right now on top of me not really even having a place to live down here so I fully admit I didn’t fabricate the exhaust. I didn’t think this would be a big deal?
  3. Other than that, I’ve talked to a few people who did the swap but had no one hand me anything. I tried the B5 power steering line, the 1.8T mounts, the trans spacer, the wiring. It was all me, I did it in my driveway. No one said “here’s how you do it.” The B62.7T guy on AZ is a nice guy and was telling me how he did his cruise control (which I probably won’t do) and how he wired his fans (which I’m not even going to follow). Talking to people doesn’t mean I didn’t do this myself (at least to me).
  4. This swap costs $2000. You could make it cost $5000 or whatever. Mine cost a bit more because I bought a bunch of unnecessary stuff like a 3.0 rad support or auto downpipes that didn’t fit. The motor was $1200, the power steering line was free, wiring was somewhere in the $50 range, + the exhaust. You could use an S4 exhaust (which I didn’t I sold for ~$800) and the SSAC downpipes for ~$150. I still need to get A/C lines and do the fan wiring at the cost of maybe ~$200-$250. So did I spend more than $2k? sure. Does everyone have to? No
  5. Chris I go for the hunt more than the kill. My friends don’t understand this but my mind is always wandering and as soon as something is done I want to move onto the next. On top of this, I know my personality and will want to do K04s, fueling, etc and I really shouldn’t be at this point in my life (moving to a new place) so I thought selling it might keep my mind off things. It’s a really cool car though, I have nothing against the swap I think it’s awesome. Once I’m driving it down here I might change my mind and I’m still on the fence about keeping it. Also, given I didn’t work on it for at least 5 months, it’s hard to say 1 year. But fair is fair and I fell slightly short of a year.
  6. Chris to me this stuff is simple. It’s a process just like anything else. Once people know how it’s done it’s one of those “oh, that’s it?” moments. I move onto the next project to make it harder and more complex. It’s a way to challenge myself. I apologize if I leave out things in pricing. I put most of it up there but haven’t updated it. Trust me I know how much stuff costs and I’m the first one to bash some 1.8T guy saying they want 500awhp. Most don’t know what it costs, but this is fairly straight forward and at the cost of $10k+ for 1.8T guys to make 400whp this is a cheaper option with a better powerband.
  7. I appreciate the comment that you were excited to see this. I was too, and for awhile I thought I wasn’t gonna do it.

so you’re selling it?

Damn I was really looking forward to seeing what a tuned + catless full exhaust 2.7T in a 3850 lb car would do compared to say a tune + catless full exhaust would do on a 4.2.

We’ve seen taht the 4.2 is capable of 12.9-13.1 @ 107 or so with those mods. Would have put a lot of the inter-platform trolling to rest since there would be no other variables to fuck up the results…same car, same weight, same mods…2.7T vs. 4.2. I predicted 13.4 @ 106 for this car…basically a tune+exhaust C5 A6 2.7T type result.

Saki,

I have people interested but I’m not so sure I’m ready to let it go. When I get some wheels I’ll certainly go to the track. Hopefully this clutch holds up it’s an OEM with like 120k on it lol

Keep in mind the B6 S4 trans has super tight gearing compared to the 01E. I’m predicting a noticably better 1/4 mile time over a standard 01E one, given that the driver isn’t terrible!

OEM clutches are solid. You’ll be fine unless you fuck up…but you know how to drive so it’ll be fine.

As for the gearing, the B6 trans is good (1st is too short, 2nd is too long, 3rd is good) but B5 gearing is great for making torque/acceleration happen.

In any event, we’ll see when you run it. My $10 bet stands. Not a big enough amount of money to get upset about but enough for a laugh.

It’s actually got a longer first than the B5 1.8T trans (known as one of the best), slightly longer 2, but 3 and 4 are incredible compared. I’ve been saying that these Tial guys and whatever are sucking at the 1/4 because of the gearing, so this will test it
