Yeah I haven’t either. Mike’s car was WAY better dialed in than mine. I will say though, I feel bad for these guys that never launch their cars, the feeling of coming off the line at 7000 and spinning all four tires is one I miss dearly. There was one weekend when the car was running particularly well that I bet I launched 25 times.
You’re asking how much it cost? I’m gonna say if you have an exhaust already and don’t want to get $1000 3"DPs you could do it for $2k-3k and I am 100% confident in that
2-3k would be the cost if you had a B6 with no engine, correct?
In theory you could do it for almost free if it had a good engine in it.
We’re not mentioning the ‘cost’ of having $5000-10,000 tied up in a car that sits there and doesn’t run for 6 months to a year. Or the cost of probably hundreds of hours of your time.
Well yes that’s correct. It would take as long as anyone to swap a motor since it drops in. The wiring I had to figure out and I was at school so that added to the time. I would say if you had a running V8 (or A4), the motor, and the harness done (which you can do before the swap). You could get this thing done in a week. Of course when taking out a motor there are always things that pop up, so you sit and wait (timing belt, clutch, mounts, etc etc) so the timeframe depends on the “swapper”
Drove the car 4 hours today… Feels good, wheels rub a little bit >:( until I get the other ones fixed up. Has some fuel issue and possibly needs new plugs and I need to just get the speed sensor code figured out and it should be legit. Then track time, after SoWo
Agreed I need to get these wheels fixed ASAP. Needed 20mm spacers for the brembos (sucks). Yeah I would love that but it’s getting sold. The next car will have a nice unit in there
Good deal, I think I’m parking my car with the GPO tent (“German Performance Options” - just a local shop to me that is a german maintenance place. They’re some nice guys and have done some basic maintenance stuff for me from time to time).
I want to go on the record for saying that I agree with the fact that 01E S4 gearing is horrible, especially for large turbo cars. I’m not getting into detail or an argument regarding this, if you drove a big turbo car with that trans you would clearly see on the 1-2 exactly what im referring to. That said, this is the reason I dont have a factory 1-4 in my car anymore. ;D Car looks good man, very nice build.
I don’t think anyone thinks the 01E is perfect…I think the concerns people have are when the 01E is good enough to help some big turbo cars run 10s while others do poorly and then blame the trans for their not getting out of the 12s.
If most (if not all other than maybe 1 RS4 transplant) of the B5 S4s on the quarter mile list are 01E, and some run 10s-low 11s @ 125-140 mph using the 01E transmission, I don’t really get why some people are using it as a crutch to explain away their bad results. That doesn’t add up. That’s what people call out as B.S.
Your car will be fun to watch with a more optimal setup.
Saki, it’s because it’s the only one that can hold power. People don’t understand that the 01E isn’t made for high HP/small powerband setups. You do realize that MOST of the 10 second B5s have small turbos? (K04/RS6)?
What do you mean by most. There are like 3 legit 10 second B5 times.
marc (who shed 900 lbs of weight) - ‘small’ turbos
jaybquick (RS6r turbos) - not small turbos by any means
guruman (GT turbos and 140 mph trap speeds) - bonafide big turbos
Then you have the eurotuner car whatever it used (wasn’t it a GT also?) which is not on our list because I haven’t been able to find the timeslip (did they even release them timeslips???)…and the polish guy who used nitrous on a runway event, not a certified dragstrip, thus is not on our list…and that’s it? Anyway, all 5 of those cars used the 01E I believe. One was small turbos only . One was RS6. Two were GT. One was all about nitrous.
So much for that theory.
The biggest power builds (flavour of the last year or two) right now are Tial cars. Those cars are mostly EPL tuned. As the audirevolution dragstrip database shows, EPL doesn’t exactly have a stellar reputation tuning cars that have done well at the strip. That’s not because the Tials don’t work as Tony Aiello showed going 11.1 @ 130 on stock intercoolers (and he should CRUSH that soon with his upgraded ER SMIC setup).
