let me introduce myself with a question?

There were only like 4 people who ever had a issue with pinging… 2 of them were not able to dupelicate it but all of them found out they had somw fuel issues or bad carbon issues…

There are so mamy people running the jhm tune now with no issues… I would deffinity check ur plugs fuel fter and fuel… it would be helpful if someone as abls as you found out these cars weak spot. It looks like your car has it. Might even be a clogged or bad flowing cat… on the b6/7 S4 if you have a clogged cat or bad flowing cat you can get misfires and pinging

Any thoughts on throwing some octane booster in the tank see if that cures the ping? If it does technically that would pretty much bring it down to bad gas would it not?

went and met up with my technician and used the vagina communication device and logged the car.

heres the Codes that i did have on the system:

after logging the car and doing multiple pulls everything is happen on the ecu #2, no codes or any pinging coming from ecu#1.

Wish I had one of those, they can be quite a mystery

I used to get misfire errors on almost all starts after the cars been sitting for at least 4 hours or so. Changed my fuel filter yesterday and no misfires warnings yet with three cool starts… I could just be getting lucky though.

In any case the fuel filter is an easy maintenance item you could try.

No clue about that camshaft error

I hope everything works out for your RS!

Below is a link to somebody else that recently got tuned, and very bad things happened not long afterwards. Also a cam fault (but that on is on the intake, whereas your is exhaust). Root causal diagnosis has not been posted.

That’s sounds super dangerous, I wouldn’t risk blowing my motor If I was you. Do you have VCDS? You should log your car. Maybe even throw in a little race gas for the time being. Sounds like something is wrong with your tune.

My bad I didn’t see the post where you logged your car. I just replied to the first post I read where you said you were pinging.

How many miles on your car?

he said its isolated to one side of the motor so I don’t see that having anything to do with the tune

Is it possible to flash it back to stock?

Ya like I said I didn’t read the restof the thread when I posted.

Well just finished installing some 265/30 Michelin super sports, and also throwing a new fuel filter, cabin filter, intake filter, and new sparkplugs, and also new tank of gas from a gas station across town, I’m pleased to say the car is amazing, pinging is all but gone, I still noticed a slight amount in the test drive but was very very very minor, I’m going to give her a couple days see if the tunes evens out, I’m extremely impressed with the tune, considering this is really the first time I’ve been able to really get into it, ill post hopefully more results after I give the tune alittle more time.

^ That is GREAT news.

SPECULATION: Wonder if our RS4s need a “tune-up” before getting tuned…

I wouldn’t wait for it to “even out”. Just reset it in VAGCOM. There’s no point in waiting.

IMHO any car should have proper maintenance/ “tune-up” done before throwing performance parts at it.

People that neglect the easy things and then wonder why they have issues when installing an aggressive performance tune should not complain about the tune first. They should reflect on how well they have maintained their car first.

It more then likely did. I’m glad she’s up and running though. Stock software isn’t aggressive enough to show the weak points in the system, but with 80,xxx km’s and still having the original fuel filter and spark plugs, they were due.

Reset the fuel trims and do a throttle adaptation? Or just refresh with the software? I need to head into the shop so i got access to the vaginal communication device today, and the tuning laptop as well.

Very true! But I didn’t really complain about the tune, i had 2 things happen, I filled up with 94,which was actually 87, and also had the shitty plugs and filters, i was merely stating the problems and looking for an answer, never once did I blame the tune.

Should I have done the maintenance before the tune? most definitely, but i put the tune on one morning cause I wanted to make sure everything was fine before It installed on a customers car. Which btw has been CC’ed, and had everything changed out, and is having no issues with the tune, other then a couple speeding tickets lol!

OzcarMeyer…what…you mean we actually have a smart member…bump in karma for you…so glad to see someone being smart and actually doing something other then juzt telling us how smart thsy think they are…only to find out there dog shit ztupid only to endlessly complain about completely solvable izsies…

The fact that you actually did something and knew to do something other then to curl up on ur couch saying Ohhhhh poor me…great job being more of what this platform needs and that people that figgure stuff out rather then blaming everything else so they dont have to do anything. …the rs4 owners are lucky they have one more like you…

wait…you filled up with 94 which was actually 87!!! how’d the station balls that up so bad?

No idea, but really sucks wasting $90 bucks in gas, also btw our Petro Canada’s don’t carry 94 out here saki, they only have 91.

Yeah the only reason Petro out here has 94 is because Suncor bought that business from Petro, and ditched the Sunoco name. Sunoco had a good following of 94 customers, so Petro put 94 in most of the Petro stations after absorbing the stations/closing/selling. Some old Sunocos are now Husky, some are ghetto brand, and some are Petro. Most of the Sunoco=>PetroCanada stations have the94 here.

So do you have Sunoco stations?
