Lets talk about mufflers.

We often tack about the cat back and how the bends should and should not be ect…

What about the mufflers? What options are out there? What price range? what type of sound do you feel they offer?

Fast Intentions uses the legendary Sebring mufflers… I find they have a good euro (ferrari / lambo style) sound when used with an X pipe

Other popular muffler is Magnaflow. I find these offer a more “american muscle” sound, no matter if its used with an X or H pipe.

Can someone fill in the blanks on what mufflers the following catback companies use?

Fast Intentions = Sebring

APR = Billyboat

Stasis

AWE

MTM = in house muffler

Miltek = in house muffler

Capristo = in house muffler

Labree

Borla

Neuspeed

EbWorks = sebring

Am i missing any other AUDI catback manufactures?

I’ve got Magnaflow mufflers. I prefer the sound of the FI setups but some of that will likely be the full catless 2.5" DP’s in the FI setups I’ve heard in person (bora, saki). Maybe saki can comment on my piggies/Magnaflow combination vs his old piggies/FI setup.

The FI/Sebring probably has better performance. At the time it was about $700 for the Magnaflow and about $1300 for the FI setup. Was that performance and sound bump worth $600 more to me? Probably not. That $600 went towards the JHM tune.

However, I have noticed that the FI setup for the B6 is $1050 (JHM) which is a no-brainer IMO.

Forgot AWE…

^^ thanks added

Labree uses Sebring as well

Are we just discussing V8’s or all Audi exhausts? 034 uses Borla and Magnaflow mufflers for turbo I5 applications:

OT: Love Borla’s tagline (The World’s Most Winning Exhaust)

Perhaps in the B6 model but its not a sebring in the B7 model… based on images from Labree’s website.

They also dont have any pricing for anything S4 … just images. Do they still make these?

I was looking at V8’s mainly since its a hot topic these days.

Didnt Borla make a B6 catback though?

edit

Yep

LOL at the APR exhaust in this!

what exact model of Sebring are jhm and ebwerks using?

based on the video its the 14A-28

Wheres the time slip btw?

thanks bora

timeslips are mia dont have them…will no doubt keep them once i get the car hooked up.

APR uses Billy Boat.

ebwerks doesn’t use anything. They have one exhaust prototype. Ben said they’re not in production yet.

Some of the custom B6 JHM catbacks used Flowmasters (captain insano, justincredible, cabracco85)

smegma, why would ANYONE believe you even went? You know that through all of this you haven’t said ‘I didn’t keep the timeslips’ or anything? You haven’t even said ‘I went to XXX raceway on the XXth of XXX and got XX runs in. My best time was XX.XX @ XXX.XX mph and my best 60’ was X.XX’

No. You just said ‘I ran mid 12s.’

Then, you got called out for it and asked for a timeslip.

Then you said ‘I ran high 12s’.

you mean JHM. EBwerks aren’t using anything yet.

We actually are in production Saki.

We use a 3" offset inlet Seabring muffler, looked like the same ones JHM used, but they don’t have part numbers on them so can’t confirm 100%. As far as I could find nobody made an off the shelf 2.75" muffler so we figured the small step at the very end of the exhaust wouldn’t hurt anything.

There was some muffler discussion in this thread:

The hooker muffler stood out to me…

actually EBWerks seems to be closer to selling a production exhaust system than JHM at this point. Yes, they have sold some but they are not available now, are they?

nothing against JHM just have something against your statement. i have bought parts from JHM and will continue to buy parts from them and plan on buying more soon.

we all know EBWerks is going to deliver something…and we all are waiting to see how it performs. Then hopefully we can put this to rest.

saki if the EBWerks one performs well, is built well and sounds good since you are going to be in the market for an exhaust will your EGO allow you to purchase one?

why would my ego have anything to do with my choice in exhaust for my car?

company A - JHMotorsports - exhaust offered by a company with a great reputation at making parts that work for the 4.2, designed by someone who works at the performance division of an OEM, along with input from experts at one of the best performance tuning companies in the world (Roush). The company offering it is the one company who has committed themselves to developing the 4.2 over the last 5 years. Along with their exhaust and downpipes, that company has developed a clutch/flywheel/lw front rotors/lw rear rotors/intake spacers/lw crank pulley/tune/supercharger and a carbon buildup solution.

Design technology - I can’t even begin to talk about the tools available at an OEM and at ROUSH.

Proof of gains -
LOGS - fastest 3k-8k RS4 in the world (mick’s)
DRAGSTRIP - highest MPH TVS1320 supercharged RS4 in the world, 2nd and 3rd fastest all motor quarter mile times in the world (supplanted only this week by someone else with half a dozen other company A parts)
DYNO - Company A hasn’t published any dyno results for the record.

company B - ebwerks - a one man show start up who has done his best to show that he doesn’t exactly understand what he’s doing (showing his flow modelling skills, which were immediately called out as flawed by three CEs and four MEs), and proof that he was way off base in evaluating and designing an exhaust. That company/one man show has been around for 5 minutes and has developed a $400 lw battery kit (lulz) and a set of endlinks for swaybars (great idea, but still in testing). The two things company B has going for it? Their exhaust is in concept a near replica of Company A’s product which makes one ask 'why would I buy this from a one man startyp vs. a proven company? The other thing company B has going for it is that they are not Company A (thus are attractive to people from quattroworld).

Design technology - macbook with pirated copy of CAD from a torrent site

Proof of gains
LOGS - haven’t released anything
DRAGSTRIP - haven’t released anything
DYNO - the catless fullback dyno’d a modest 11 whp over a stock size catback and stock downpipes with precat deleted (and main cat in tact)

Yeah, you’re right. It’s my ego getting in the way of buying Ben’s exhaust. ::slight_smile:

No offense to Ben. You have to start somewhere. However questioning someone’s decision to skip his exhaust as being EGO driven is a bit premature. The only guy who has said he will switch is Ben’s buddy mick who may or may not have some interest in the company (Ben says ‘we’ a lot, and Mick has said he gave his input to the design process. At the very minimum Mick is invested on a personal level). By the way that ego comment makes no fucking sense…if I was ego or superego driven I’d ignore any perceived allegience to JHM and go for the highest performing exhaust for personal vindication, no matter what. Didn’t they teach you that at Devry?

actually, i might have been wrong with my statement regarding JHM anyway…because they do have a production exhaust system for the S4 4.2 platform. my statement was toward the RS4 and this thread may have been about more than that.

i never went to devry…what you talking bout. they would not accept me…i did try though.
