why would my ego have anything to do with my choice in exhaust for my car?
company A - JHMotorsports - exhaust offered by a company with a great reputation at making parts that work for the 4.2, designed by someone who works at the performance division of an OEM, along with input from experts at one of the best performance tuning companies in the world (Roush). The company offering it is the one company who has committed themselves to developing the 4.2 over the last 5 years. Along with their exhaust and downpipes, that company has developed a clutch/flywheel/lw front rotors/lw rear rotors/intake spacers/lw crank pulley/tune/supercharger and a carbon buildup solution.
Design technology - I can’t even begin to talk about the tools available at an OEM and at ROUSH.
Proof of gains -
LOGS - fastest 3k-8k RS4 in the world (mick’s)
DRAGSTRIP - highest MPH TVS1320 supercharged RS4 in the world, 2nd and 3rd fastest all motor quarter mile times in the world (supplanted only this week by someone else with half a dozen other company A parts)
DYNO - Company A hasn’t published any dyno results for the record.
company B - ebwerks - a one man show start up who has done his best to show that he doesn’t exactly understand what he’s doing (showing his flow modelling skills, which were immediately called out as flawed by three CEs and four MEs), and proof that he was way off base in evaluating and designing an exhaust. That company/one man show has been around for 5 minutes and has developed a $400 lw battery kit (lulz) and a set of endlinks for swaybars (great idea, but still in testing). The two things company B has going for it? Their exhaust is in concept a near replica of Company A’s product which makes one ask 'why would I buy this from a one man startyp vs. a proven company? The other thing company B has going for it is that they are not Company A (thus are attractive to people from quattroworld).
Design technology - macbook with pirated copy of CAD from a torrent site
Proof of gains
LOGS - haven’t released anything
DRAGSTRIP - haven’t released anything
DYNO - the catless fullback dyno’d a modest 11 whp over a stock size catback and stock downpipes with precat deleted (and main cat in tact)
Yeah, you’re right. It’s my ego getting in the way of buying Ben’s exhaust. :
No offense to Ben. You have to start somewhere. However questioning someone’s decision to skip his exhaust as being EGO driven is a bit premature. The only guy who has said he will switch is Ben’s buddy mick who may or may not have some interest in the company (Ben says ‘we’ a lot, and Mick has said he gave his input to the design process. At the very minimum Mick is invested on a personal level). By the way that ego comment makes no fucking sense…if I was ego or superego driven I’d ignore any perceived allegience to JHM and go for the highest performing exhaust for personal vindication, no matter what. Didn’t they teach you that at Devry?
