lets talk weight reductions.

im looking to make a list of things that can be done to lighten up the rs4. first off let me say that I don’t mean ripping out interiors and so on. im not willing to sacrifice any of the creature comforts the interior has to offer. im just looking for things I may not have thought of yet that could be an option.

the usual suspects like FW, rotors and so on will be replaced as I go through the oem parts. im not willing to change the rims but tires I will be shopping for next season.

sak, u had mentioned titanium wheel lugs in another thread and that was something that had never even crossed my mind.

I have also heard theres lightweight seats?? numbers and prices would help for anything.

Euro bucket seats are lighter than NA version. Also, might want to look into cf hood, and lw battery.

I have the battery, how much lighter are euro seats and are they still heated and power?

Why are you not willing to replace wheels?

Titanium lugs won’t do anything at all. If you are talking about rotational mass you want to go with the heaviest parts and the parts that have the largest diameter.

You see people sometime doing light weight driveshafts and not really gain much, it’s because the driveshaft carries requires less inertia to be moved than say a rotor. A rotor has equal mass all around, but the further it gets from the center of rotation, the more inertia it requires to be pushed. Same idea with wheels, people look for lightweight tires and downsize the wheel for less weight and to bring that weight closer to the center of rotation. The lugs are basically on the axle so they won’t do much at all

Buy a Miata. That should lighten it up…

rs4 wheels are one of the things that really attracted me to the car in the first place and at 27 pounds they aren’t horrible. I realize that dropping 10 pounds per corner of rotational mass will be a noticeable difference but I still have to live with the look.

So far OZ and volk look to be the lightest I’ve found and there not something I would want to look at everyday.

Work emotion Kai ultimate.

Almost all of the superlight wheels look like they belong on japanese cars, those work emotion are one of my favorites though. Neuspeed also makes a light one, and enkei nt03’s aren’t horrible, the design isn’t great but they are light.

Your best bang for your buck will be rotating mass…so you had a good start.

LWflywheel
LW rotors
LW wheels

You already have a battery
CF hood is nearly pointless on the RS4 (waste of $$ IMO)

I wouldn’t look much further than that. The next big mistakes people make at the strip as far as weight…is making sure their gas tank is pretty empty.

What’s your BMI? If it’s over 30 then you should look into that

LOL, BMI is fine for mainstream people but gets out of whack at the fringes

Anyway, what’s wrong with O.Z. wheels? I love mine and they’re super light. But hey, to each their own I guess.

OZ are nice!

Forgestar? Can get some meaty wheels in custom config for full bolt on around 1600 that weigh around 20 lbs. Cf5v would look nice. Even make an rs4 looking wheel. But I get it if you like the stockers. Wheels are usually first thing I replace. Dont like many of the audi stockers personally

B8 but you get idea. Forgestar cf5v

My BMI is horrible apparently. Anyone who has met me probably wouldn’t say I need to lose weight . If you are reasonably athletic(and have more dense muscle than most) , or quite tall (thus have big strong, heavy bones) your BMI is likely shit. BMI for the loss.

Re titanium lugs

There are lots of nice cast wheels out there for 1500 bucks. If you want forged, they’re 4500

What is the benefit of HRE P40 VS vmr 710?

Lightweight? Is saving 4 lbs per wheel really worth the extra 3000 dollars? If so that is 175 per pound.

Well that’s the cost of titanium lugs

Some might say ‘I want the originals, not the vmr reps’ to which I would say the HRE is a replica of a BBS motorsports wheel. So there goes that justification.

All in all the bottom line is that there is some low hanging fruit in the rs4 to save weight. Not a lot though. Audi took care of some of it (wheels, hood, fenders) . Jhm took care of the rest (rotors, pulley, flywheel, exhaust) .

Anything beyond that is at a level of extreme price for minimal returns.

If you’re supercharging your RS4 you are getting to the point where incremental acceleration gains will take considerably more power than they would at stock levels. Thus the cost is even more extreme to notice it.

So, follow the proved formula, and beat everyone. But don’t chase your tail, or you will turn into mickf29thplace

RPF1 are lighter

Forged will be more than $4500 if you want to be light.

RSV C|R Series is $1795/wheel for 18x8.5 and they say they will be at most 18lbs but they think a bit less. They offered a 15% discount on AZ. These are the ones I’m going to get with hidden fasteners and a different finish.

You can also go Forgeline GA1R/GA3R. The GA1Rs are a one piece and the minimum width is 9" also the 18x9 is 17.8lbs and those are $1485 before finish options. The GA3Rs are 3 piece stepped barrel and are 17.7lbs per wheel at 18x8.5. Those are $1360 per wheel before finish.

Other than that you can get the Volk TE37 TTA edition in 5x112 and those are 18.3lbs at 18x8.5 and are only $3800 for the set.

ADV wheels that weigh 18lbs will set you back $8k and carbon fiber wheels that weigh 15.7lbs will set you back $16k.

Why not get the RPF1 18x9 that are like 17.8lbs and $1500 a set? Another important thing people forget is the weight of the tire too…keep that in mind.

No need to be spending 4-6 g’s on wheels to get quality. Flow formed wheels like enkei, forgestar, advan, wedssport, rays, etc all can be had for 1500-2500. Be hard pressed to notice a big difference in quality, strength, durability.

Case in point, I hopped a curb (total moron) with my advans. Not a nick, dent, bend, nothing. 18x9 weighing 18 lbs and were $500 each

Dont get me wrong, I’d like to be able to spend 5 g’s on wheels but thats not happening and not necessary to get quality.

Found conti dw to be the lightest. But, comes at a price. Trade off. They suffer from soft sidewalls. My bstone s04’s are 5 lbs heavier in same size, but they have stiff sidewalls and only can assume most of that weight. But they are great for turn in grip and stability over the conti dw. Tradeoffs

I personally want to get a unique set of rims I haven’t seen that are also 3 piece and have various finish options because they’ll be a summer/track wheel. The RPF-1s are best bang for your buck don’t get me wrong, they’re just a little played out now, not to mention they are only decent looking in my opinion. They also only have a few finish options as well as being one piece.

True about the tires but the lightest tire isn’t necessarily going to be the best performing. My opinion is shoot for the best grip with the tires, then save as much weight as you can with the wheels and hardware. I also forgot to mention the wheels I’m picking up include titanium bolts which doesn’t save much but it’s still some.

Oh yeah yeah can definitely get great quality wheels for the prices you said. I also looked really hard at Advans too. I was just pointing out how expensive it is to go light when you want forged wheels. Saki said $4500 which is definitely starting price for forged, they just weigh 20+ lbs.

I hear ya. Loved my advans by the way. Solid wheel for sure.

And I like to go with something unique also. Part of the fun in modifying.
