I wouldn’t even call it a BBK, for the B6/7 S4 anyways, considering the rotors are only 5mm bigger. I would say the appeal is in the 6 piston calipers.
Please quote where it says that on their website because I don’t see that.
The JHM rotors would great on the road course. I ran my car on the track with the 350 front rotors and stock size lightweight rear rotors and never had an issue. Next weekend I will be going back to the track with the RS brakes up front and lightweight 365 mm rotor rings.
2 things.
1 I have jhm rotors on my car and have for several years. The same set. I have done aggressive driving in back roads never had an issue. You can break any rotor if you put too much heat into it.
seems youre right jimmy, I can picture the disclaimer in my head saying “not for road course use” but I must be thinking another brand. sorry bout that seems I have my facts wrong again.
there are however threads about them not holding up under abuse.
People like bensti, daytonars4, zmon, and Flying Tomatoes say stupid things like that in an attempt to push people away from the JHM rotors. I remember when Ben praised the JHM rotors as being better than sliced bread and then he went on a campaign against them. He posted a picture of a crack in one of his rotors that looked really worn. Then Saki outed him for being a moron. Ben did the same thing with his Stern engine mounts: installed them, raved how good they were, wore them out, said they suck, and moved on to the 034 Motorsport billet engine mounts to repeat the cycle.
ya I came across that thread with sak blastin him. if you guys say they hold up ill try them, I thought they were more of a drag application, but im all for shaving 5 pounds per corner of rotational mass.
I did find one thread where a guy said they were done after 3 track days but you never know what pads he was using and how hard he drove and so on and so on.
I think ONE person had issues, then all those fools turned it into a MESS.
I would think that you will find other limits to the stock brake system way before the JHM rotors became your limit.
It’s really about the driver too, plenty of people don’t know what they are doing because it’s an amateur HPDE, it’s about balancing speed and braking…some guys just think they can mash both pedals as much as they want and that is when problems arise.
Usually most of the problem!! Spend a little on a track driving school can help most overcome any “slowness” issues. Might spend a little myself to learn some tricks when I get back…
the schooling is a lot of fun and they just drill the knowledge into your head on how to go faster. I had an absolute blast. I would go again for the super advanced classes and probabaly will at some point.
Since we all know the wheels are a place for improvement on the S/RS4, someone should pick these up http://audirevolution.net/forum/index.php?topic=2966.0
They’re significantly lighter than stock and are known to look good on the b7 chassis (see the JHM RS4 and my own avant).
Anyone ever looked at Dynamat-ing the RS4? I did some cursory Google-research and it seems to be fairly reasonable. I don’t know how much weight you’d save though. Probably not much.
