just to check the EXIF tags, those pictures were taken with a Canon D1X, combined with a lens that as a package would be worth over $8000. Fucking baller - even, in true baller style, it’s all done in full Auto mode.

I’m a Canon user. They are both equally excellent although Canon might have the edge on lenses, and especially longer lenses, as well as video in dslr. Nikon has the edge in other things…but I don’t know what that might be since I can’t be bothered to follow the new bodies anymore. That’s a game in itself where people are made to feel they need a new body every two years.

Nikon user here (D70s). I like how the lenses from my old F90x transferred over with no drama. Having said that I picked up a Canon S100 point and shoot - where you can manually set aperture and shutter. I’m very impressed as I can have f/2.0 at the widest angle. It does 99% of what the D70s does. Actually make that 109% as it does decent video too. Although I haven’t compared the quality for printing.
I’ve always found Nikon to have better quality lens than Canon for DSLRs. Can’t speak to point and shoots.
That said, the quality is so close that it’s probably moot. As saki said, they’re both great. I’m a Nikon user because I prefer the Nikon ergonomics so it’s purely subjective. Plus, no one can beat the D700’s low light performance at that price range. Shame it’s been discontinued.
After my old nikon F2, My first digital was a Nikon D40, so that’s what I stuck with… I had a D300, after it was stolen I just got a D90 and a 18-200 and I’ve been happy with it since. I haven’t decided when, or with which manufacturer i’ll go full-frame with yet. It’s funny but I still take the majority of my pictures with the D40 because its light and cheap and I just throw it in my bag.
Bango, as far as Saki vs Spazz goes, there’s still android vs iPhone, pc vs Mac (I have 4 in my house right now), tall vs short, white vs. tan, ill bet Saki drinks Pepsi instead of Coke and roots for Vettel and Schumi.

For a point and shoot, iphone photos aren’t bad. Doesn’t come close to a decent DSLR though.
