Looks like I'm buying a new non-Audi daily driver/beater...

if your car is hanging with an RS5 that’s around a 110mph trapping car. A couple have seen 112 or so. Basically like a tune only B8 S4 on pump gas. Will be fun watching it when modified. One thing porsche tends to do is build boosted engines like brick shithouses…so it will handle pretty much anything.

Even stock and when using LC it’s a very quick truck off the line but after the 1/8th it really looses steam. My 12.59 stock run had a very nice front half but slow back half and only trapped 107.xx Yeah, not really worried about the motor just want it to go faster… lol DSG/PDK is probably more the concern but will see how it holds up…

As mentioned I had plans to go with GIAC. A forum member on the Macan board reached out and said Cobb would be launching soon as he was the turbo beta tester. I researched out to a few folks I trust and it was released today I believe so I’m going to go with Cobb. Multiple maps, ability to tweak, new tunes when mods come out, data logging, etc. Half the cost also, plus no pulling and shipping the ecu…

Anyone on here use Cobb before?

Popular in bmwland . Sounds like a better offer. Not sure if any good. B

Yeah, I know they’re big in Subaru as well… I ordered it so will see… lol Traded a ton of PM’s with their beta tester and he had lots of good feedback, no track times though. I like that it logs, has performance gauges/tracking, and can clear codes also.

Can’t be hard to do a decent job with a turbo car.

I used Cobb on my turbo Subaru , was a great experience-

Awesome! That’s good to hear… I’m excited as it looks like a neat tool and as long as the tune is solid I’ll be happy. Not looking to make this thing a drag car just move out better… The value proposition was just so much better…

GIAC - $2,500 + ecu shipping both ways and me dealing with removing and having my beater down for a few days. No map switching, no data logging, no fault clearning, no service resets, etc

Cobb - $1,295 flash at home, multiple maps and free updates, data logging, mountable device for creating gaugues and performance metrics/measurements, code scanning and clearing, etc.

I’ll have it Friday and if all goes well go to the strip this weekend… Unfortunately, it’s supposed to rain and is very HOT and HUMID right now…

it’s mental hot here. 34 Celsius. That’s 93 Fahrenheit. Supposed to continue to Friday

Not quite that hot here but similar and the humidity is what is brutal… Almost can taste the moisture in the air… Had a real bad storm last night some of the loudest thunder I’ve ever heard… We are way down in rain this year though… Glad as I haven’t had to cut the grass but every 3 weeks or so… lol

I personally havent runn cobb but anyone ive spoke to who has (Subi and BMW) always had good things to say.

Macan turbo tune is out. Interesting to see how hard porsche worked to flatten the torque curve. The tuners turned it into a camel hump:

Got the tune installed…

All I can say is WOW! This is how the truck should have come from the factory. The first thing I noticed was the improved throttle feel. The slight delay is gone and it is much much more responsive. I drove like “normal” for a while and it felt similar to stock but with the nicer throttle response and the shifts seemed crisper but not harsh like my S4. I drove in sport plus mode as I always do and was shifting manually. I then decided to see what the beast had with a couple quick pulls from a roll in various gears. The first thing is the crazy amount of torque down low almost neck snapping. It’s pretty violent and pulls very hard and again the tq is just crazy and you can see that from the dynos they’ve posted. I then got on some roads with higher speed limits so I could do some full gear pulls. Before the truck pulled pretty hard but I could tell the turbos were constrained up top, not anymore this thing pulls very hard to redline and the shifts are incredibly fast and sharp more like my S4. In all I drove around about an hour and it looked like it was going to rain so I headed home. Very impressed so far!

I’ll play with the data logging and gauges in my garage to figure that out but it looks very straight forward. Want to get a bunch more seat time before making too many claims but, I’ll say this 93 tune will easily cut a half second in the ¼ mile. Given it is very hot and humid here today I can only imagine what this will do in cool dense air with little humidity. There is a Ford vs Chevy vs Chrysler drag race day on Sunday that I go to every year with my S4 but I’ll take this if it doesn’t rain which unfortunately looks like it will. I’m guessing on 93 in high heat and humidity I’ll go low 12’s and in good air I’ll go very high 11’s. I think the race gas tune will net me 11.7-11.8. I know this isn’t a drag race vehicle and I don’t intend to make it that but when testing tunes it’s the best place to do it as it’s a measurement of what the tune is supposed to do. For reference I ran 12.59 at 107 100% bone stock and full weight. I haven’t tried LC yet but I did cut a 1.70 60ft time stock and with the additional HP/TQ I’m guessing low 1.6 60’s and I may sneak into the 1.5x range via playing with the tire pressures and such.

I’ll update this post as I drive more and test more and am willing to offer any insight or test anything so please don’t hesitate to ask. Have some BMC filters coming next week so we’ll see how much those help. Also, trying to procure an exhaust as this thing is to quiet.

Major props and thumbs up to the folks at Cobb! I’m still leaning towards a new R8 in the spring but if I go 911 Turbo S you’ll get my money again! Lol

Loving this device… Here is all the fields you can log… Less than vagcom but also less redundancy. Need to figure a few of these out but shouldn’t be bad. I’ll do some logs with the tune and stock tune so I can compare how much timing they are running, boost, etc.

Yes they have a great interface and device, each version of he unit seems to be much improved. The 911 turbo s tuned is violently fast, I love the r8 as well just a much different experience

Tried a little data logging. So I selected 6 fields and logged thinking I’d get these fields. The fields are what display as your gauges if you drive around with the device on in gauge mode. It lets you start logging from there as well.

Downloaded the accesport software and then hooked the AP up via a supplied cable. It immediately saved all my tunes on my pc, which I thought was cool. Selected logging and saved the file I had made. To my surprise it wasn’t the 6 fields that I selected on my gauges screen, instead it was 28 fields and a time stamp, yeah 27 sensors! That’s awesome vagcom can do 10 in turbo mode and 12 in normal. So you’re more limited. This thing gives you a ton and on top of that the sample rate is very fast.

Here are the fields, lots of good data!
Time (sec)
Ambient Air Pressure (PSI)
Ambient Air Temp (° F)
Boost1 (Pre Throttle) (PSI)
Engine Load (%)
Engine Speed (RPM)
Engine Temp (° F)
Fuel Pressure (Target) (PSI)
Gear (gear)
Ignition RON (raw)
Ignition Timing (°)
Ignition Timing Correction Cy1 (°)
Ignition Timing Correction Cy2 (°)
Ignition Timing Correction Cy3 (°)
Ignition Timing Correction Cy4 (°)
Ignition Timing Correction Cy5 (°)
Ignition Timing Correction Cy6 (°)
Intake Air Temp (° F)
Lambda Bank 1 (AFR)
Lambda Bank 2 (AFR)
MAF Total (g/s)
MAP (Actual) (PSI)
Short Term Fuel Trim Bank 1 (%)
Short Term Fuel Trim Bank 2 (%)
Throttle Angle (Actual) (°)
Throttle Angle (Target) (°)
Vehicle Speed (mph)
Waste Gate Actuation (%)

That is bad ass. Debating if I should buy the Cobb device for my 2015 Boxster 2.7. There isn’t a lot of power to extract out of it. At best it would close the gap on the 2.7L.

I installed some BMC air filters yesterday… Very easy install and I left the covers off as I think they restirct flow as does the hood but I doubt I’ll cut the hood… Sounds much better w/o the covers and snorkel as you can really hear the turbos spool…

Also, did a bunch of data logging… Can’t believe how much better the Cobb AP does vs the vagcom cable. The sample rate is crazy… Nothing outrageous because I was on the street…

Few impressions… The intercoolers work very very well as my IAT’s are very nice. It was 88 yesterday and on the highway IAT’s were between 95F and 105F, I did a couple pulls and they barely moved. In traffic they got as high as 135F but quickly got down to 115F or better after driving 30-60 seconds. Impressed!

Boost peaks at about 22psi in the midrange and tapers to 18ish at redline. You can feel the boost drop and the car still feels a little weak above 6K rpm’s.

Still reviewing timing, knock, EGT’s, etc. I’ll post more as I learn more.

All these logs were on pump gas and 93 tune. Weather and work permitting I’ll be hitting TNT on Wed.

Driveline/Suspension mods:

Going to try and tighten things up, started today. First mod was the transmission mount/insert. My brother and I had planned to fabricate our own but then after checking it out thought everything basically looked the same as my S4, so I ordered the EC unit which is what I use on the S4. Sure enough a perfect fit. Sorry didn’t get any before pics but I added a couple after. Just not worth mine or my brothers time to re-make even though there are a few enhancements we’d make. Anyway, I also included a pic of what’s next up! Lol

Honestly, it’s a HUGE improvement, I’d forgot how much this mod helps… I know that sounds difficult to believe but IMO it make shifting so much crisper and the launches hit harder. Will see how my half-shafts hold up on Wed! Lol Lots of little things on this truck to be buttoned up.

Took a look at a few other things today… Can’t wait to tweak more… Stay tuned!

I love that you crack right into your cars. I need to get moving on my cayenne, the lowering module or just lowering via the porsche vag port equivalent has been on my list for awhile.

Debating the AP racing intake as well, I believe it was 15 whp and 15 wtq, which is nice on an NA just not sure how it holds up over time. Need to finish up the exhaust with a nice set of mufflers and possibly a resonator as the 2.75 inch and the secondary bypass seems to be overpowering the stock mufflers.

I would do some bushings as well but honestly everything is pretty stiff on my GTS as is not sure I could give up any more NVH.

Need to convince someone to make a proper tune as well, I would assume similar gains might be possible to something like a tuned b7 s4.

Anyways, glad your loving it. Just read a nice review of the macan GTS on panorama, I like the idea of the GTS setup on the Macan- I do wish they bumped the power more than 20/30, but I’m sure the GTS and turbo will be get bumps next year

The most anticipated suv for me right now is the sq7 believe it or not, though the new CTTS is ridiculous- performance and price wise!
